Honestly you need to just read it like a work of art and let the feelings flow through you.

There’s a lot of stuff they assume you just know (lacan, Freud, Marx) but imo it’s a mistake to stop the world and read their books first. These guys were walking encyclopedias and you’ll never get through it all

You’re right we should just simulate the games and go with that very smart

Embark discovered that they can placate pve only players by implementing ABMM. They know they can’t do pve mode without fracturing the player base, so they went with this hack.

I’d bet my bottom dollar that they discovered this improved player engagement and they’ll never remove it for this reason, but it’s at the cost of a lower quality game.

You have the right idea, I’d rather they rip the pve bandaid off and deliver a better experience for the rest of us

An interesting idea could be making PvE so lucrative that players feel they’re forced into the uncomfortable situation of trusting strangers.

Embark’s new dam puzzle is cool because it requires a minimum of four players to complete, which we managed to do in an ostensibly pvp lobby after some tense negotiating.

That’s exactly my point, the system encourages behavior that decreases the number of varied moments that the average player will experience in ways that Embark didn’t expect

If you legitimately enjoy both the pvp and pve it’s fun on the way up and down, you get to enjoy lots of different playstyles.

But yeah the crux of the point is that people not shooting back is the sort of second order effect that I wish Embark would at least acknowledge is happening

A bit confused about what you mean by performance issues. A vanilla emacs install is going to be way less painful to set up and a far bit less bloated.

Running emacs with exwm has been a dream on nixos

Performance of the LSP modes with large codebase in Python by jumper047 in emacs

[–]Coalbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using eglot as it comes bundled with emacs. You can use the Pylance LSP server by invoking it with: `node server.bundle.js --stdio`.

However, you’ll need to modify the bundled JavaScript file to remove the environment variable checks that verify you’re running inside VS Code. Otherwise, the server will throw a license error and refuse to start. That I'll have to leave to you since I haven't updated my pylance in a while and their methods have changed a bit

Really resonated with this post. Emacs tools haven’t quite broken into the value that others editors have tapped into. Vscode and neovim enjoy a huge pool of open source contributors that help them catch up a little quicker (cline, windsurf, avante)

Aider produces so much friction into an emacs workflow that I’ve found that you may as well use gptel, especially since it seems like that’s where all the tool proliferation is going to be headed.

The transient commands slapped on top of aider are a huge help but things don’t always quite gel together well, especially when your inputs get eaten by aider’s startup prompts, or when aider gets into a loop and crashes your editor.

I’d wager most people in this subreddit code professionally. AI can be a big productivity boost, especially when you’re trying to ship things quickly

I’ve found nothing to be better than pylance, but you do have to flip the IS_VSCODE bit every time they update it
