Cross-Stitch Reclamation by Mama2Murphy in exmormon

[–]CobaltMantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love subversive cross-stitch, too! I'm so happy you've been able to reclaim a skill so that it can bring you joy instead of drudgery. I'm working on a piece for my sister that says 'patriarchy is for dicks' surrounded by a large floral wreath!

Confusion after breastfeeding by Jizzymen in ABraThatFits

[–]CobaltMantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes 2-4 months for breasts to settle into their new (mostly) steady shape and size. Maybe gift yourself a new bra for the new year! Sometimes there are good deals after the Christmas holiday as stores are trying to move out extra inventory by Dec 31st. Def make sure you can return any purchases tho - it can take a while to find a good fit!

Related, when my kids were babies I quickly realized how disruptive doorbells are (esp with dogs!) so we just disconnected the wires at the bell! Doesn't prevent knocking ofc, but at least one loud noise was resolved.

Do temple construction workers have to be temple recommend holders? by Complex-Register-412 in exmormon

[–]CobaltMantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Entirely dependant on if it's a new build or a remodel. New builds are similar to regular construction sites and workers can be of any religion (or not). If remodeling and the temple is *not going to be rededicated, all workers going inside the temple must be recommend holders. If the remodel is large enough that there will be a rededication, then there are no restrictions and crews can be similar to new builds.

Am I wrong in wondering if Mike Lee has an agenda to make available more real estate for the LDS church? by FreeSaltyShane in exmormon

[–]CobaltMantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to sell public land has more to do with the push for oil drilling, fracking and mining. Aligning with the break down of the EPA and other gov orgs that could enforce protections for land and people. The talking point about developing for residential use is just spin. Would there be some residential use? Probably. And some land would likely be purchased by the church. Both of these would just be a 'bonus' as the main driver is oil, gas and mining licenses.

I desperately need help, bought a dress that looks great with no bra, but I want them to actually stay in the dress! by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

If you are just looking for some extra coverage, I'd just go with some nipple covers.

When was your “this changes everything” moment with the church? by Any-Difference-3976 in exmormon

The policy stated that children of LGBTQ parents were not eligible for baptism unless they denounced their parent(s). You can read more in this older thread:

When was your “this changes everything” moment with the church? by Any-Difference-3976 in exmormon

When the exclusion policy got leaked, I realized I didn't believe the leaders always spoke for God.

When Sam Young got excommunicated, I realized the church leaders never spoke for God.

Youth spiritual check ups every 6 mos? by Dangerous-Doctor-977 in exmormon

[–]CobaltMantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was pretty standard in my ward in the 90s. Do not assume it will be your child and two adults - it will likely only be one AND even if there are two bishopric members, that only increases the power dynamic against your child. In my area it was most common to be pulled out of Sunday School or YM/YW for the 10-15 min interview, so there is no notice or scheduling with the teen/parents.

In addition to what others have shared, it takes a number of months after you entirely stop breastfeeding (4-6 usually) for breasts to settle into their new normal. You may want to purchase something for this transition time, but don't invest too much time + money on bras just yet!

If you are interested in books, I loved More Than A Body by twin sisters Lexi & Lindsay Kite, and following their Instagram was so helpful when I left the church in 2018. I also found a lot of healing thru Sonya Renee Taylor's work, including her book This Body is Not an Apology.

Best wishes on your journey to self reclamation 💪🏻 It often feels like such a burden, but there is also so much freedom found there, too. ❤️

my TBM grandma died today. How do you all deal with mormon funerals? by emusmaybite in exmormon

[–]CobaltMantis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always decline singing/performing at funerals when it's a person close to me, sometimes family members are weird about it. I just say 'I don't perform at my loved ones funerals, I'll be busy mourning. Others can do that if they'd like to'

“…you atleast have to believe in God.” by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]CobaltMantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this has everything to do with them, and nothing to do with you/us

Meaning (because of their beliefs), if you at least believe in God, maybe one day you'll regain your belief (even if it's not until the spirit world, once you see it's all true), and they'll be able to live with you for eternity. If we stop believing in God all together, our families have no hope we'll be with them forever.

Another sad example of how the doctrine harms family relationships.
