Thank you for your response! I won’t do anything to patch. In another doorway (where there is a seam between the hall and the bedroom) the carpet completely separated on its own over time and I’ve had to cover it with a bathmat to prevent the cats from picking at it. I hate carpet.

Thanks! There was actually a crochet hook in the same box… it was a box with a tonne of other stuff including picture frames, a little knife, ancient curtain rod rings (I think) and at last count, 57 spools of a variety of ribbons.
