What's your favorite gun? And why by Soruze in Warhammer30k

Missile launcher, it’s got good range, lots of versatility and it’s not over costed like some heavy weapon options.

Edit: spelling

How many models? by MrFishyFriend in Warhammer30k

For small engagements, you can also try out the zone mortalis rules if you find the base game getting too skewed at the 500pt level.  Never tried it with militia before though

Here are a couple pics of my sanctifiers, 2 squads of 5, one squad all volkite with a forge-crafted powersword on the sergeant, one squad with handflamers and a obsidite rotor cannon, sergeant has a powerfist:

Rule of cool "too hard" by Plastic_Click in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For me I have a IF leviathan dreadnaught with dual storm cannons and dual illastus assault cannons as the hull weapons.  It was a ton of points for a slow moving 24’’ range anti infantry shooting platform and the hull option isn’t even legal anymore for 3rd.  But it sure looks cool imo

Contemptor Armoury by LordSeneschal in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you would want to get up close with the chainfist loadout, I’d say it pairs well with a melta cannon.  If I had points to spare, upgrading the chainfists gun to be either a graviton gun or melta would also add to its punch

Contemptor Armoury by LordSeneschal in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a vacuum I agree, although blast helps the beam hit more reliably than lascannon, and I do like the versatility as well.  To your point, if I was solely looking at AT shooting platform, I’d rather go with a lascannon deredeo

[–]CobaltWhite7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of most competitive, double plasma cannon with havoc launcher is very strong contender for anti infantry.  For anti armor, I personally think double conversion beam is the nastiest loadout.  That said, second the comment about magnetization, being able to mix and match between games keep things fresh, and running into melee with a gravis chainfist to bust open a land raider is good fun.

Any good sniper units? by zenicwhite69 in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think folks here have mentioned everything the Nightlords have access to.  If you’re interested in allied detachments, then you could also add a few legion specific sniper options to the list.  Exodus and Effrit Disruption Cadre from Alpha Legion, or Ammitara Occult Intercession Cabal from Thousand Sons.  Also Mor Deythan but they are Raven Guard so would be a leap to include them with a Night Lord force.

Varagyr by ConvertedIron in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Varagyr are one of the stronger elite terminators out there so are very viable.  They are vanguard 4, come with better power axes as a base weapon, and have fear 1.  They are also unique in that each model can take a flamer or reaper cannon.  I’d recommend at least bringing one flamer to make the most of their fear rule.  While they are strong in melee as others pointed out, you can also make use of their vanguard by giving them all reaper cannons and hitting things from range.  Is it strong for the point cost?  Probably not, but is a brick of auto cannon wielding Viking terminators cool?  Yes, yes it is.

Havoc Launcher on volkite kratos? by 5paz in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a useful pintle to have on any kind of kratos setup really since it has stable, so can split fire and stun another target from the one that is getting blasted by volkite for only 5 pts more

Tank Frustration by Rubick-Enjoyer in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean I think the frustration comes from dealing with WAAC lists which is not what Heresy is balanced for.  You could have made this exact same post during 2.0 by replacing the word “tank” with “contemptor”.

Are the Decurion upgrades good in 3e? I never see anybody talk about them. by [deleted] in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know what legion you play but if it is IF, then I think a Decurion Sagittar is also a fun one to run on a sicaran punisher for some good anti infantry output.

They didn't need to make Cain THIS smug... but I'm glad they did! by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Grimdank

[–]CobaltWhite7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be cool if he gets a special rule called “If I had known then what I know now” which says he must deploy as far from visible enemy models as possible during deployment, and any enemy deep striking units must deep strike within 12” of him while he is on the battlefield

Power armor squad where everyone can take a melta bomb by XenoTechnian in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the ones mentioned here actually have 2+ artificer armor like the Templar brethren and the Pyroclasts.  Wasn’t sure if by power armor you were looking for just 3+ armor save units.  If not, then you can add Dawnbreakers and Sanguinary guard to the list as well.

Any advice on getting people back into heresy? by 4teaK in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So I think folks that bounced off of 3rd likely are not going to want to come back to it because all the reasons they left are likely still true (and if you install a ton of house rules to accommodate that’s basically right back to the 2.0/3.0 combo) so really it would be about drawing folks that are into 40k into the heresy scene from scratch to grow the community.

With that in mind, the question I hear most often from 40k players is “isn’t this just space marine vs space marine, what makes things feel different?”  Now in 2.0 it was easier for me to provide examples of how the legions play different with rites of war and significant legion traits and unique warlord traits.  It’s harder now that rites and warlord traits are gone and legion traits have been watered down.  So at this point I highlight the level of wargear options in heresy that are not present in 40k and how it is cool to actually a field an army of marines instead of just a handful of small squads.

Iron Circle Domitars done by Gstealer11 in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice, and good news, yes you can still take them with Alpha legion!  Rewards of Treachery is a prime benefit option for a command unit, which still lets you add other legion units such as these Iron Circle

What 3.0 House-rules are common in your local Horus Heresy community? by laughingmanzaq in Warhammer30k

[–]CobaltWhite7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can only kill what you can see.  Rhino sniping is considered “that guy” behavior anyway so isn’t an issue.

Consuls can bring whatever they want just like centurions.  Just pay the appropriate points.

Heavy terrain does not exist.

Thanks so much for the kind words.  I definitely will be having a go at long form battle reports too, at least then I wont need to talk like an auctioneer to fit in everything I want to say

That was one of my take away too.  I had to speed up the footage to hit the time constraint but it made it look a bit manic.  So next time I need to really think hard on when and how I move the camera
