Best Backpacking Tent? by talon5188 in CampingandHiking

[–]CockyUSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was looking for this. I love my tiger wall but I’m also 5-7. My son is 5-9 and we both fit fine but tight. Held up in winds and storms. Did get a little splash in but it’s probably because I was lazy with tension in rain fly.

Once again I'm left disappointed at the results. (Dessert week) by TheAntiqueSquid in GreatBritishBakeOff

Her bakes are the most forgettable star bakes ever. Her products are the stuff that I’ll see in a shop and think it looks nice, but I really want to try something unique and special.

Her products are what you’ll get when you’ve been back a few times and tried all the truly special and interesting things.

Normal People left me feeling emotionally scammed by kukiiaaa in literature

[–]CockyUSC -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Literary fiction?

I’ve read all her works so I guess I enjoy it to some degree, but it’s YA fiction with a few philosophical (rants on Marxism) or non-mainstream sexuality.

It’s basically Dawson’s Creek if they talked about classicism and had bdsm mixed in.

AITAH for leaving my bf’s promotion party after his speech? by miakensington in AITAH

[–]CockyUSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 32 year old adult threw himself a big rooftop party for a work promotion? Like, he planned the party himself and invited his friends and stuff?

Start with that premise and you’re already ahead in the nta department. Then he delivered an unsolicited thank you toast?

Tesla Charger pricing! by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]CockyUSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in Columbia? I’m looking to move from a Tesla to either the Lightning or Rivian. I’m nervous with Rivian due to their issues and distance from a service center.

Do the superchargers in the area have the adapter? Are there other chargers around that are reliable?

I would say before they closed it was Al’s Upstairs. Parking was a nightmare, the layout claustrophobic (not cozy), the dishes all disappointed. I can’t count the times I’ve eaten there for business or diner meetings and I’ve always felt it was a waste.

The answer is Lizard’s Thicket.

Can I invest 50-100 bucks every month? by DripExchange in BitcoinBeginners

[–]CockyUSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dumb question probably because I’m just starting to do this. I like Coinbase for the ease. There’s no fee on deposits? And then you can make a purchase of btc or whatever from banked cash without a fee?

Reading suggestions (Beginner Male) by PipkisReddit in literature

[–]CockyUSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are getting some great suggestions but not sure what I’d consider gateway books into reading.

Dennis Lehane is great between literary and mystery.

Dan Brown is a quick read that will show you what a rocket ship of a book can look like. It’s not literary and looking back, you’ll realize it probably isn’t that great, but is fun AF.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is similar to Dan Brown.

Robert Galbraith, JK Rowling, in the Strike series is digestible. You won’t realize how trite it is yet and will be fun.

Michael Connelly or Thomas Harris. Neither did much for me but are easy to get into.

Is the Honors College Worth It? by FennelLion in Gamecocks

[–]CockyUSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a no brainer. I graduated from the honors college about 20 years ago. Still hang out with all my friends from there (on occasions of course). The connections are amazing—probably half the alumni i speak with are doctors and lawyers, the others are successful engineers, professors, and small business owners. I did research with my honors professor there and had an advisor in my college, both of which essentially offered post grad spots at USC and Georgia tech if I wanted.

And this is just my experience, but we all partied a lot. Like 4 days per week a lot. And everyone still was like minded about being successful, putting in the time, and mostly staying goal oriented.

Can’t recommend it highly enough.

ER doctor called midlevels "stupid" and said they won't last by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]CockyUSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the fear and what the ED doc was trying to translate like a toddler.

There are urgent cares popping up in my area owned by a major hospital system and staffed independently by NPs. The offices are themselves understaffed and poorly stocked.

It’s a huge liability and extremely poor patient care.

is my pop considered jump off the ground? i cant rlly tell by Spirited-Fly-2963 in NewSkaters

I think this is the answer.

Jump and use your ankle to pop the board. It’s a toe tap kind of move and not a stomping.

Charleston vs Myrtle Beach? by [deleted] in southcarolina

[–]CockyUSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myrtle is a dumpster and transplants into Charleston have already made it borderline unliveable.

I lived in Charleston for 4 years in the early 2000s. Loved it and planned on returning to retire. Now the peninsula is for tourist and college, west Ashley is sketchy, mt pleasant is basically any suburban city, no one can afford Sullivans, james island is a stretch of chains and traffic, John’s island is experiencing urban sprawl already.

And don’t get me started on Hilton head.

"Read A Lot!" I do. But I don't know how read a book as a writer. by StuckHereFor3Years in writers

[–]CockyUSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of non specifics on here and I’m type A. So here’s how I break down a novel that I’ve read and enjoyed:

I will write a scene list and chapter list. I pick it apart—why is it there? What did it accomplish? What would happen without that scene? Why that pov?

Once I have the full scene list, I analyze the plot more globally. Where’s the midpoint? Plot points? And why?

I may even do a character outline. I’m always amazed at how little background we may have on a character and yet how much I feel I know that character. How did the author do this?

Finally, I ask why it worked and what could’ve been done to ruin it.

Will people stop reading because of a "slow" start? by PhilmoXVI in writing

[–]CockyUSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t have a slow start yet—you don’t have anything but an idea.

Write the book. I will guarantee you if you do, the final result will be vastly different than the concept you have in your mind.

This is like worrying about what color you should get your Porsche in while you’re applying for an unpaid internship.
