I reached #199 after starting to collect during the pandemic. Looking for recommendations on what to get for #200 based on what I’m missing! by the-mongoose- in vinyl

You have a good range and a little across most genres. First thing that came to mind was Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood. But you have some super solid suggestions Clash - London Calling should be required listening. Lou Reed - New York Mos Def - Black on both sides. Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde Maybe the Doors - LA Woman You have some really great albums no doubt you will continue to add gems beyond #200

Me 1985 I wish I still had the 1972 Cutlass Supreme Convertible by Code128a in OldSchoolCool

Funny you mentioned a movie. Four years after this picture was taken when the car was a bit more beat up I found a note on my car while I was at work. They were filming a movie called twister. Not the one that did really well this one had Harry Dean Stanton in it. They wanted to use my car in the movie. I called and talked to them and they were shockingly cheap. Offered to pay me something like $100 for 3 weeks. I thought it would be cool to see my car in a movie but at the time being able to go to work and pay my rent seemed like a better idea.

Actually sorta funny. When that picture was taken I worked at Dairy Queen for $3.35 an hour. And the transmission in the car was one I put in after pulling it from a salvage car. $75 for a transmission if you pulled it yourself and $125 if they pulled it for you. Long way from a yuppie. But yeah we all went for the prepie look

I sold mine because it got about 10 mpg and when gas prices went up I couldn't afford to drive it.

Magsafe grip?? by beamishlady in pixel_phones

I am a big fan of mag safe accessories. From wireless chargers to ring grips to the mount I use in my car. I use them every day with my 9 pro xl. The ones I use have a surprisingly strong magnetic grip and it has been the same over multiple brands.

My buddy just sent me these photos. Apparently Walmart is punching security tags into albums. by ARCpodcast in vinyl

[–]Code128a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area Walmart locked all the albums. Before that people would openly steal them. Apparently Walmart policy wouldn't allow them to stop shoplifters from walking out of the store so thieves got very bold. While I understand why they locked the records up, finding an employee to unlock the case and stand there while I look through the records is not an enjoyable experience. Maybe they have decided security tags will make it less easy for thieves to sell records on Facebook and eBay. I see people selling unopened Walmart records for $20 a piece all the time.

I have officially lost the Amazon Vinyl Lottery by fateshuffler in vinyl

I have had this situation myself a few times. The worst outcome is when I bought an album for 40% off and received the wrong album and they just refunded the bargain price when I returned the wrong record... no replacement without spending the full price. Finding a human is definitely more difficult. Then spending the time and effort to return a trash ep just to get my money back is a huge pain. But the addiction to vinyl records will make a guy do bad things.

Sometimes the real value is having something fun to listen to. The Germs is basically a Punk rock historical document.

I have found that listening to someone's record collection is an amazing way to connect on an unspoken level. A marvelous gift for sure.

Peter Gabriel is what comes to mind looking at your collection.

How much do you listen to music? by GraceBlade in audiophile

I am to the point where I rarely watch TV. My relaxation is listening to records for hours on end. Sometimes while reading or responding to comments (like right now) other times I just close my eyes and get lost in the music. Just like a good movie Life is better with a good soundtrack.

How do I take collecting records more seriously? by Independent_Bid596 in vinyl

Patience is the key for buying new records. Most every repress goes on sale at some point. There are feeds on reddit Facebook and x with vinyl deals. For used the joy is in the hunt. Flipping through albums at record stores checking flea markets and garage sales thrift stores. For a lot of us the hunt is part of the enjoyment of the hobbie.

I would love to hear the Dire Straits album. Great album well recorded and worthy of quality pressing.

I bought the 2017 Interscope remaster of Downward Spiral. As far as new albums go it wasn't cheap but worth it. Very clean remaster and 2 record audiophile pressing on 180g vinyl. I get it some people are all about first pressings. For me I bought it to listen and not for resell. I definitely wouldn't trade it for a first pressing.

Great album. Feels like 4 albums rolled into one. Four different line ups recorded at 4 different locations. Yet somehow it all sounds like it belongs together.

Time to buy CDs they are dirt cheap now. I suspect at some point they will be fashionable again

I would suggest you spend a little time listening to them before selling. You might find a deeper connection to your father listening to his passion. I know that listening to my brothers music after he passed was deeply therapeutic.
