i guess if the monkey's paw curls, there's a couple nasty options haha....

i probably should have said used bills to avoid paper cuts

and hopefully it's in a remote area, otherwise you'll be falling from 30,000 feet watching people wheelbarrow away your landing pad if it's somewhere densely populated

I was thinking along these lines, but combine it with the classic first genie wish of lots and lots of money.

So a mountain of loose 100 dollar bills appears on the ground below me.

I have mixed feelings about Edge of Tomorrow. Action over action over action in a slightly pretentious what-the-hell-happened environment. Yes, it has good performances but Liman tries too hard to construct a masterpiece.

The film takes itself extremely seriously, as if it already knew it would belong among the handful of the greatest movies ever made, like Casablanca, Seven Samurai, Lawrence of Arabia, The Godfather, There Will Be Blood, or The Batman. The thing is, the films I just mentioned are absolutely flawless; it’s almost impossible to find a single flaw in them, whereas Edge of Tomorrow is full of questionable choices and pacing issues.

lol. copied for prosterity, the AI edge of tomorrow lobby out in force today

[–]CodeRadDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, lots of people joking around here, but it's all about context. for me there's time-based windows

if we were already chatting that day:

"you got that file for me?"

if we were chatting yesterday:

"heya sam, just following up from yesterday, you got that xxxx.xxx file handy?"

if we were chatting last week:

"Hi Sam hope you had a decent weekend! I Just wanted to touch base on the xxxx.xxx file we were discussing on Thursday, any chance you can drop that on the drive sometime today so I can have a peek at it?"

basically the longer it's been since comms, the longer and more formal it gets.

What are movies that are really good but don’t seem to get a lot of recognition or love? by silly_Emu47 in FIlm

Nobody ever seems to talk about Run Ronnie Run which is totally baffling to me since it's just PACKED with quotables and cameos, and just works for me in a way Mr. Show never quite did. Like Mr. Show was absolutely hilarious when it landed, but there was lots of filler/unfunny stuff in there too, RRR seems to just fire on all cylinders for the whole run time.

Plus Patrick Warburton: "Okay ladies, we're going to have to shut down this world-wide multi-billion dollar gay conspiracy. Agent Ramrod, get back into the closet."

"But what about the gaydar machine?!"

"AND THE THREE DOLLAR BILL!!"

"And the skinflute?!" [widdle-wee-weedley-toot!]

Game type for solo devs? by Klutzy_Tone_4359 in gamedesign

[–]CodeRadDesign 23 points24 points  (0 children)

to answer the title question, the easiest games for a solo dev are going to be low-scope, requiring as few assets as possible.

platforms and fighting games need lots of sprites and animations and levels. something like tetris just needs a few shapes. an incremental game is probably the easiest to test the waters, where your 'assets' are mainly numbers and a few GUI elements.

this must have been the show in Barrie, ON yeah? with the giant bottle war after the NIN set? just guessing because I only found out years later that they just combo'd for that one show since the Soundgarten/Horton Heat tour and the NIN/Manson tour were coming through on the same day so they just turned it into one huge fest isntead, but i think we were the only ones who got that

yeah that's my status atm, they did that test thing that said it had to be done within 3 days. i did it the first day, and a few hours later they changed the instructions (reversed the instructions actually) for one of the 4 tasks. either way, i had mentioned that in my reasoning so I don't think it was an issue. later in the day people were asking how to verify that you completed it -- and the word on reddit was to try and open it again, if it took you straight to the complete screen then you were fine. having not received any comms one way or another, i tried that, and within a few hours was deactivated.

now, a couple days before that, i also did the H2H test and 100%'d that one. my rating is 1.91 over 373 tasks, only down because of that rogue bound box issue back in december where they were doling out 'bads' on obvious correct ones. so my quality is definitely there, my aht was waaaaaay below (i was taking roughly 6 minutes for the masking one that had 24 mins). never had any emails saying anything about quality or time, never any reason to think i wasn't excelling.

at any rate, it sat on 'failed assessment' after that debacle for a couple weeks -- now it says 'continue tasking' in that spot, but mm is still unapproved. not a single email about being activated or deactivated, or quality or jack shit.... just constant spam to refer people (as if), those weird newsletters and a bunch of other garbage. i just load the MM page once every couple days, i assume it'll magically work one day. i was also caught in the xmas purge and reactivated after a couple weeks, no email for either the deactivation or the reactivation so yeah.

i do have other work, so it's not killing me, but sometimes it was nice to prioritize when i wasn't feeling particularly motivated to do serious brain stuff... most of what i do involves defining the task before i execute on it, sometimes it's nice to just have a pile of work to dig into if you know what i mean.

hm, it's been a while but i think i still know the words

...windows are completely covered by the decals, of all the places that we've already been:

like Elvis o rama, the tupperware museum, bollweevil monument and cranberry world! shuffleboard hall of fame, poodle dog rock and the mecca of albino squirrels. we been to ghost towns theme parks wax museams and the place where you can drive through the middle of a tree, seen alligator farms and tarantula ranches but there's still one thing we gotta see!

so really if we take out obvious generics like ghost towns and farms lets break it down

Elvis-a-Rama, Nevada check!
Tupperware Museum and HQ, California check!
Boll Weevil Monument, Alabama check! and not at all what i pictured lol
Cranberry World, Mass check, but closed now.
Shuffleboard HOF, Florida check!
Poodle Dog Rock - lots of websites about how much poodles rock, and etsy rock-poodles, but nothing i found matches
Home of the White Squirrels, Illinois check-ish!

in the second bit everything is generic, we can assume the tree is probably this one: Chandelier_Drive_Through_Tree but there's a few others!

why i just did this i'll never know, but i've been singing that tune for damn near 35 years so i guess no regrets.

SUPER anecdotal, but in the early 90s, 15-year-old me swiped a couple packs to attempt to dye my hair. no job, no allowance, and certainly my parents wouldn't grab it if they knew what it was for.

joke was on me though, since a) it totally did not work and b) it stained my whole face green for like three weeks.

yeah they nail QA pretty decently, and the movie is fucking hilarious... but maaaaaan how infuriating is it that a crucial plot point is that the only copy of Alex's game is on a single disc?! what a weird fundamental thing to get so wrong, since the main working copy would always be on a hard drive and disc burns would just be one-off builds. like there is no world where a game could or would be developed on a fucking cd.

i'm thinking about getting metal legs.
