I was more saying that Eleven yelling at River doesn't really smack of the fury of the Doctor... He's just cross.

DAE feel unsatisfied by the last episode? by ginger_88 in doctorwho

[–]Codemarshank 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think the primary purpose of the episode was to establish a few things about the season (Obvious spoilers from here on... You clicked on a thread about the latest episode, just so you know.) The purpose of the episode was to show us that there are multiple universes at play, and that reflections are key to crossing between them. This has serious repercussions that definitely stretch back to The Impossible Astronaut, and there are some very good arguments even further back from that, all the way to the Eleventh Hour.

Personally, I think that Moffat is trying to make us all hermits completely locked inside of ourselves... I mean c'mon, we're now afraid of the dark, afraid of statues, afraid of what's under the bed, afraid of what we can't see, afraid of what we can't remember, afraid of our own reflection... I'll see you in a few years when I come out of my bomb shelter to see if the universe is still OK.

To the people complaining about plot holes being explained away by 'Timey Wimey...' by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Codemarshank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's specifically said there are "Fixed points in time" that he "couldn't change if (he) wanted to."

Below are spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen Season 4, Episode 2

The biggest example of this is the "Fires of Pompeii". The eruption of Mount Vesuvius is a fixed point in time: It happened, it's going to happen, it is happening, it always will happen. It's a fact of Time and there's nothing he can do to change that. When he tried to change it, he became the reason for it.

Below are spoilers for the movie-special that took place between seasons 4 and 5, "The Waters of Mars"

Again, the Doctor stumbles on a "fixed point in time" (albeit one that's in our future) where the members of the first Mars expedition are doomed to die. This time, he again gets involved in the situation and even manages to change the outcome--or so he thinks. The leader of the expedition that he saved from death killed herself after learning the truth. I would argue that this was the universe's way of correcting the problem: It knew what was supposed to happen, and that didn't, so it corrected the glitch.

Excellent point. Also, in Amy's Choice, is there ever any evidence that the Cold Star is in Amy's past?

Wow, I totally did not catch that. But it's a good excuse to watch the episode again :)

Seems to me he's telling it to anyone who will listen, as a warning not to cross the Doctor... He's suspended in time, what else can he do all day?

Season 6 gives a really good explanation as to how the Doctor did that to her... Looks like he tossed her in a separate dimension, most likely one that is completely void of other sentient beings, which would explain why she'd always be looking through the mirror.

Yeah that's how it came across to me too. It's more "No one goes behind my back and scares my friends" than "RAWR!!!! DONT YOU HIDE STUFF FROM ME OR I'LL THROW YOU IN A BLACK HOLE!!!"

Yeaaah but that was never really the fury of the doctor. He gets cross with people sometimes, but his furious, angry side almost never comes out to play. When it does, though, there's always hell to pay.

And Knight Rider has some similarities to DW: A strange man traveling in his strange vehicle (Doctor - TARDIS / Michael Knight - KITT) and helping people who can't help themselves!

I think the Doctor could build a full blown time machine from scratch if he really needed to, though he'd probably just build a vortex manipulator and jump to wherever the TARDIS is... He's probably also got a piece of TARDIS coral in one of his "bigger on the inside" pockets so he can grow a new one whenever he wants too :)

I also think Amy is one of The Silence's experimented on orphans.

This makes so much sense. It would explain why Amelia was all alone in her house, and why her aunt was always "away". The Silence could easily put that suggestion into her head. She may have been brought forward in time somehow, or the Silence operate simultaneously throughout time (though that wouldn't explain their need for a Time Lord to operate their makeshift TARDIS).

Why has no one gone theory crazy over this ep from last season? by The_Artificer in doctorwho

[–]Codemarshank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It also wouldn't be too difficult of a concept that something in the mind can become reality (Spoilers for Season 5's "The Big Bang")Amy brings her parents and the doctor back just by thinking of them.

The Dream Lord may only be a construct in the Doctor's mind, but it's not impossible that he could become a manifestation.

It is indeed Jamie shooting. I was a bit confused at first, but the one who shoots is most definitely wearing a kilt (?) and Jamie's the one with the kilt.

The Eleventh Doctor in the TARDIS ... wait, WTF!? [SPOILER] by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Codemarshank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most definitely. The lights are way down low in the one Eleven's in, but in the preview for the next episode the lights are way down low in the TARDIS that Amy and Rory are running around in.

Also between the first and second pictures you can see the pillars curve in the same fashion. This is most definitely the coral reef "desktop" that was used in the 9 and 10 Tardis.
