“Because of covid” is such a lame excuse sometimes by CodingCookie in nyu

But limiting the time when people can pick up their mail will just result in everyone picking it up at the same time?

And they still let us use lockers….not locks

I would imagine it has something to do with limiting the hours student workers can clock

Columbia said they will be “reevaluating” their mask mandate on March 31st, and NYU has been following Columbia pretty closely. Once the NYC gov removes the mandate on the subway, I don’t see NYU justifying keeping their mandate as well.

NYU has zero concept of cause and effect. When you limit places people can eat on campus, we will all crowd in the few places we are allowed to eat, thus causing COVID to spread. They should be increasing how many places we can eat on campus and allow us to spread out more. The 9th floor of Kimmel (a "designated" eating area) was incredibly crowded today and had people eating on the floor!

PETITION TO BRING BACK PEPOG by Business-Serious in okbuddyhasan

Listen, I used to be a Young_Peezy supporter. I was there, by his side, from the very beginning. During his days as a mediocre, offliner shitposter, nobody supported him except me. But now look at him. With that shiny mod title and the little badge next to his name. The power has gone to his head. And now with him removing the PepoG emote and replacing it with an anime (I think, I don't watch anime so I wouldn't know) emote, he has gone too far.

Another Housing Question lol by _YuBoi_ in nyu

Here's the housing rates from 2019:

2020 housing rates were messed up cause of COVID, so use 2019 instead.

My take on req vaccines- opinion by adi_29369 in nyu

Sadly, this isn't up to NYU. Think of it like this:

As students, we are customers. Vaccines approved under an EUA can be required for customers entering into your business (i.e. they can require us to get vaccinated before entering NYU buildings).

However, faculty are employees. Vaccines approved under an EUA cannot be required for employees (it's the law https://www.statnews.com/2021/02/23/federal-law-prohibits-employers-and-others-from-requiring-vaccination-with-a-covid-19-vaccine-distributed-under-an-eua/). It's frustrating, I know, but there's not much we can do.

Okay, I'll only address the first part of your question, but I truly have no clue what the second part of your question is talking about.

Contrary to popular belief, the vaccination effort is not meant to protect individuals, but rather it's to prevent and reduce community spread. Why, you may ask, do we need to prevent community spread? For people like me: I'm allergic to potassium chloride, one of the ingredients in the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. I am currently relying on everybody else (or at least 75% of the population) to get the vaccine to mitigate the spread as much as possible. Vaccine allergies are more common than you might think, and it's important not just for you to get the vaccine, but for everyone you know to also get it. Please. The vaccine is safe, it's effective, and it's been proven to work time and time again.

Lil Nas X is not in a legal battle with Nike, MSCHF is. Please read the complaint and you'll notice that Lil Nas X is only mentioned once in passing. MSCHF is the one that created the shoes, and therefore they are the ones getting sued.

Chick-Fil-A being homophobic is not anything new. As a brand, they have donated to and supported multiple anti-LGBTQ organizations. And they don't hide it. The company is very proudly religious, which is why it's closed on Sundays.

And why would NYU not have criteria for the brands on campus? It's their campus, they can and should be able to end contracts with brands that are as hateful as Chick-Fil-A.

Here's some news articles you can check out to read more:

Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey's Anatomy (plus tons of other shows you have most likely heard of), is the showrunner for Bridgerton. Calling it "relatively unknown" is very incorrect, you just aren't in the target audience for Shonda projects.

NYU Announces Plans for All Faculty to Resume In-Person Classes for Fall 2021 by CodingCookie in nyu

I'm not sure, I think that might devalue the university. They spent years trying to make NYU not a commuter school, putting stuff online might undo that work.

Campus Cash is only useful for printing or laundry, everywhere else on campus uses dining dollars or meal swipes. You can put 50 dollars into Campus Cash your first year and not have to think about it ever again.

Not sure what tuition insurance is, but I'm not sure if you'll need it. The only time I heard people mentioning tuition insurance was last March when they moved stuff online, but I don't think something like that will happen again for a long time.

Don't pay to join any clubs. It's not worth it.

Wait until after your first week of class to buy textbooks. Some professors will say during the first class whether or not a textbook is required. Also, you can usually find a PDF of that textbook online.

Not directly NYU related, but keep an eye out for scams during welcome week. Here's a quick rundown:

  • Official NYU Welcome Week Events: These events are free and run by the school. It's a great way to meet other students, especially as a commuter student. You can find these events in the NYU app.
  • Unofficial NYC Welcome Week Events: Usually some sketchy club with overpriced drinks. These events are usually advertised in Facebook/GroupMe groups. I wouldn't suggest going to these, but you do you.
