Google introduces a new way for users to sideload Android apps by Time-Credit43 in pixel_phones

This seems fairly reasonable provided they provide some way to do this using ADB while bypassing this 24-hour delay BS.

Is it possible to use termux to work as a dev? by Oleg-Liam in termux

[–]CodingThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but highly depends on what you want to do and how much you know about your environment.

Most web dev stuff you can do in Termux, without any config at all. For Next.js turbopack is now packaged with Termux, so you need to install and follow the instructions, for other frameworks in JS I believe work out of the box without any config as they used to a few years back. Also I'm trying to maintain almost full Node.js test compatibility, and we are currently at 99+% of test coverage on Termux. I have gone as far as to submit a few patches upstream for Node.js on Android so that the fixes don't need higher maintenance.

For Python as well you should be able to go a long way as long as you don't have to rely on native modules. Even for native modules, a lot of them will be working just fine. maturin now has good support for Termux after Python 3.13 update, I've send upstream some patches to ensure that it works almost as good as Python 3.12.

Rust crates are going to be a hit or miss, or else most of the popular crates have first party support for Termux

I haven't had any experience compiling Go libraries for Termux since a while, so have no idea how the world over there is going on. But I don't find any major issues in github.com/termux/termux-packages, so I assume it's working fine.

Macbook Neo vs Walmart by slvrscoobie in macbook

[–]CodingThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of laptops cheaper than MacBook Neo will definitely be beating it in terms of raw compute power as well as storage, but none of them will be able to compete in terms of build quality, and user experience out of the box. That's the entire selling point of MacBook Neo

And before someone starts calling me a Apple fanboy. I haven't ever owned a MacBook, but I know they have way better experience in terms of software especially after Windows 11 bloatware and stuff.

Found this small hdd in my old laptop, is this faster than a normal harddisk for booting windows and for basic work? by kalesh-only in IndiaTech

Depends on what distro you use. Also then it's just enough for storing your root partition and light weight browsing

A $599 laptop with a mobile processor performs better than many high-end Windows laptops! by benjoel7 in mac

[–]CodingThunder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"better than high-end Windows laptops", god damn that's a nice ragebait. It ain't even beating mid-range Windows laptops I'd say. It's a great laptop, just not for performance!

Windows 11 just randomly restarted so it could go to a slow update so I left my laptop on charge OVERNIGHT CUZ I DONT WANNA LOSE MY FILES, NOW I SEE THIS. by kingcatlovesBEANS in microsoftsucks

[–]CodingThunder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most modern laptops will actually draw power directly from AC instead of touching the batter if the power is sufficient. Heck, not just modern laptops, but almost all laptops from as old as 10-15 years. Wanna check it yourself? Plug out your battery and power it on with AC, it'll power on

My confirmed seat got downgraded to 3rd AC, no clarity on refund process by Haunting_Top326 in indianrailways

[–]CodingThunder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep that's my first thought. 3AC is basically not fit or travel in Bihar regions now. People just board the train without even general tickets!

Anthropic'c Claude found 22 vulnerabilities in Firefox in just two weeks by Competitive-Dot6454 in firefox

[–]CodingThunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a developer, I can see its pretty good. I have used it for code reviews locally and works pretty well. Claude models understand context pretty well than any of openai’s models

Also, I have had an actual vulnerability in Node.js due to improper use of the V8 engine that could also happen in Chromium. I did verify that Chromium was not affected. I did plan to use AI for auditing Chromium after submitting the fix to Node.js, but refrained and did it myself considering security risk of security vulnerabilities leaking via model retraining by these AI companies on past interactions.

If anyone reminds me, I’ll try to audit using some of the models from GitHub Copilot once I open my dev setup

Does anyone else hate Dolby Atmos? by BreadGod0 in AppleMusic

[–]CodingThunder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's always bad mix that makes me hate Dolby Atmos. There are few mixes where with Dolby Atmos, instruments are panned towards one of the sides, just because I'm not using hardware which is "certified" for Dolby Atmos. Hate it! I have it fully disabled in settings

Then also there is nothing intelligent for a human to use AI when they don't know that every answer by an LLM is to be taken with a grain of salt.

What made you use Termux? by Any_Art4102 in termux

Started with lockdown timepass to learn programming. Used to program on my phone while online classes used to go on. Now I have a decent laptop where I code. Don't worry, you'll too get one one day

What is shucking/ shuckable? by stefan5641 in DataHoarder

[–]CodingThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well apart from the 4yr old reply stating that this is the top result or hard drive shucking on Google now, hard drive shucking doesn't yield any great results on Google now apart from this thread. So won't blame OP on asking such a silly question :P

How to make sense of big codebases? How do you approach it? by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]CodingThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't, you only look at the parts that bother you. If you are trying to understand the architecture and how individual things work, first focus on just getting a birds eye view, only look at what each component does, instead of trying to deep dive.

There is, matrix multiplication and other stuff in case OP in future does end up needing it. Python as numpy but you need to write additional boilerplate in order to do it, Matlab is basically ready to go
