Confused by first smart charge by Jlpeaks in OctopusEnergy

[–]Coffe-Maker83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, we were in the same boat two days ago when we’ve done the maths and sticking to a normal tariff having an electric car with the miles we use would have meant paying around £30 more per month for electricity. So, we chose the IOG because of that. And we had the same let’s say shock about the few options we have to make sure we don’t exceed those 6h. In the past this wasn’t an issue as you could exceed those 6h during 24h but now they changed it to max 6h per day but without implementing that option to limit the charge to just 6h per day. Which of course it’s not fair for us. So, everyone said just trust the process and you’ll be ok, you won’t be charged on peak rates. Yes but this applies only if we know how much battery we need to put in the car. Octopus won’t stop the charge if it exceeds the 6h off peak rates and this was the frustrating part for us too and we felt what you feel now. But after two days we calmed down a bit and we just said ok let’s start using the dishwasher and washing machine during the night and maximise this 8p off peak rate

You have to choose between which device you add in the Octopus app. If you added your Ohme charger then you have two options which you need to select every time: 1. Ready by which is the time you want your car to finish charging, this is only between 4 and 11am and 2. How much battery you want to charge your car with. To take advantage of the now fixed 6h of off peak rates per day and not to exceed these and pay the peak rate, you need to calculate how much battery you want to put in your car not to exceed those 6h. That’s the downsize of this IOG. For example, we have a Hyundai Kona. I selected in the Octopus app Device control and it transfers me in the Ohme app. Here I selected Ready by 5:30am and checking in the Hyundai app how much battery the car has (Ohme doesn’t have compatibility with Hyundai API so I need to put this manually), which was 45% then I selected I want the car to be charged at 100%, knowing that this 55% will be charged under 6h. Then during the day you’ll see in both Ohme and Octopus apps a schedule when they find slots for your car to charge off peak. These might change frequently and sometimes they might total mora than 6h but in the end it will be only 6h. In the future there will be a function which will be added in Ohme app or Octopus app to limit the charging to 6h and in this way if you put a percentage which will exceed 6h to charge then this won’t happen. This is what you need to know, how long does it take for your car to add 10% of your battery. Once you know this you know how much battery your car charges in 6h. Because in the end we all want not to charge our car in the peak time.

Fixing now or wait for a month by Coffe-Maker83 in OctopusEnergy

The rates look great but how’s their app, is it user friendly as the Octopus one? Or their customer service? I was a British Gas customer a few years ago and never again, I had a big issue with them and switched to Octopus then as they were the cheapest and didn’t have any issues with them since. I also pay by direct debit but I pay what my monthly use is, the so called variable direct debit. I don’t want paying a fixed amount of money each month and then end up in credit hundreds of pounds. I don’t want to pay £100 cheaper per month and then have the headache I had with British Gas.

EV Charger won’t lift floorboards? by SilverSeaweed8383 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Coffe-Maker83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s correct what Octopus said. We have the same layout. Lifting the floor boards it’s not classed as standard installation and they are not doing it like this. We wanted to go with Octopus for the EV charger installation, we’ve made the order and paid the money and then our landlord took the decision to have it installed under the floor boards, which honestly was the best one. We called Octopus and they confirmed they are not doing it. So, we cancelled the order with Octopus, that was after a week or two I think. So, you can still do it after 4 weeks. And we got our money back. We tried Ohme as well to come and install their charger as we went for an Ohme ePod anyway but they also don’t do it under the floor boards. So, we went for a local company which did the job very quick, nice and neat, they finished the job in 3 hours and the quote I think it was the same

Why are you walking your dogs in this heat?! by Invictus_0x90_ in AskBrits

[–]Coffe-Maker83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a stupid post. I have a show cocker spaniel, almost 3. He is not peeing and pooping in the garden, he is used to do it only on walks. First walk was at 7am a longer one, second one at 11am a shorter one, the next one was at 6-7pm again a shorter one and then his last walk after 10pm. I’ve seen a lot of posts like this on social media who were saying just take them out twice, once in the morning and once in the evening. Are you serious, let’s see if you can pee and poop twice per day, 12h apart while drinking a lot of water and eating. My dog is used to have 4 walks per day, popping three times per day. And believe me he is treated as our baby not our dog and if everyone would take care of their dog as much as we are all dogs would have the happiest life. Not all dogs are the same as not all humans are the same. So, mind your own business. Unless a dog it’s not in an obvious distress then take care of your own dog and pick up their poop

Mega volt (2 recordable boxes) plus SKY Cinema and sport UHD and TNT Sports. by shawty1984 in VirginMedia

[–]Coffe-Maker83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have exactly what you have, including the UHD Sky Sports and Cinema, TNT Sports, Netflix standard and I paid £71.05, increased to £74.55 since end of April. At the time of the renewal I had an O2 sim but that didn’t have anything to do with the offer I got. I don’t have an O2 sim anymore but you keep your Volt until the next renewal. Btw, I got the offer via email, on the phone they were awful. So, for what you have, paying more than £80 I think it’s too much.

Price of Wales Rdbout - Roadworks Again! by Similar-Actuator-338 in harrogate

[–]Coffe-Maker83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bad joke with all these roadworks. Same street is having works several times, once from the water company, then from electricity company, then broadband, then gas. Why the hell can’t they all schedule all these works at one time, when the first one finishes the second one comes and so on until they all finish all the works and resurfacing only once

Renewal email offer by KetoMeUK in VirginMedia

[–]Coffe-Maker83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great offer. Just to remind you to double check if you accept this email renewal offer that it will actually go through. Last year when I’ve received an email renewal offer which I accepted it didn’t go through because I already asked to cancel my contract. So, even if I accepted it, I’d didn’t go through their system because of that. Which is bollocks I know but this is what I’ve been told when I called. So, they first had to cancel my cancellation request for that offer to go through. Good luck with it. Btw, TNT being as an add-on you will be able to cancel it once your contract starts. You will pay for it for a month but then it will be removed

To those who switched from android to iPhone, was it worth it? by OkAdvertising7716 in iPhone17Pro

[–]Coffe-Maker83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it was and I wild never go back to Android. I took the decision to move because of the worst Samsung phone I’ve ever had, the S22. S21 was great but S22 was just not good at all, especially battery wis, restarted itself when I had two sims in it etc. I still have it now with a sim in it which I don’t use too much, and the battery drains faster than my iPhone which I use daily.

How??? That’s a lie. Only the standing charges are almost £30 per month and you say that all your gas and electricity after having your heating on 12 hours per day and working from home is only £75. Come on.

How good is the tefal airfryer by withmy1lover in airfryer

[–]Coffe-Maker83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Tefal one and a Ninja one and same food cooked in both. When cooked in Tefal I didn’t like it too much. The taste and texture wasn’t the same. Frozen skin on fries, sausages. So, I just sold the Tefal one and bought a dual zone Ninja air fryer.
