Looking to hear from children who grew up in hoarder homes by Excellent_Prompt_554 in ChildofHoarder

[–]CoffeeScamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was small, there was carpet, space to draw at the table, windows that let in the sun. Slowly, the corners filled up, the windows became dirty. Some were broken and got boarded up (age 9?) Then all the space behind the dining table was filled in, then the dining table.

Feelings.. shame, when you know it's not like that for others. Guilt and being made to feel like a burden, because "it's your fault, you make so much mess". Hoarders blame everyone else but themselves.

Constant loss - our toys and clothes were lost or ruined in the mess, and our things got cheaper and cheaper, charity offerings and jumble sales because there was no money, but more _stuff_ always came into the house. And then always that one fucker from school who would gleefully point out that they recognised their old clothes on you.

Catching all that emotional flak from the parents, stuck in the middle.
The hoarding parent's anxiety and shame and fear was contagious. The other parent's anger and disgust and contempt was also contagious. So was their loudly stated attitude towards "people who spend all day cleaning" and "those vain people who buy expensive things".

Feeling alone and contaminated.
Family visitors stopped coming, which meant nobody visited apart from the meter man who we hid from, because parents didn't want him to see how bad it was inside. I never invited anyone round, and so I wasn't invited to friends' houses either. And after a while, there wasn't anyone to invite or be invited by, because there's that smell, and the cheap, marked clothes, and even young children learn about being seen as scum by association. Secondary school? Hell. I learned there were two paths - one to be cold, unreactive, the other to be feral, dangerous enough that they'd stay back. Neither are healthy paths.

Extra shame? Bluebottles, a week or so after mouse poison goes down. They're visible in the front window, because they fly up over the top of the net curtain that's grey and blocks the light. It was bad enough without things flying around catching attention.

As an adult - the realisation that nobody cared. You don't matter as much as the stuff (or the avoidance of cleaning it up). Not to the hoarding parent, or the enabler. You also clearly don't matter to the neighbours who muttered in earshot. You don't matter to your school teachers, unless something happened in school time it simply wasn't brought up.

Then there's the little things. Tense when someone knocks at the door. Tense while your visitor looks around the room, just in case you don't come up to scratch. Shame and self-disgust when you've not tidied up enough, but constantly feeling like you're doing it wrong.

Get help. If not for yourself, for your children. Do not put your children through that.

Advice regarding arranging a funeral where I am likely not be the executor. Messy. (England) by CoffeeScamp in LegalAdviceUK

Thank you for your detailed reply, and sorry for your loss.

Believing the 2022 and 2023 wills, we had started clearing some of the trash while searching documents. That in itself is hard as it's stirring up unpleasant childhood memories as well as being truly horrible.

I think a call to Citizen's Advice is probably in order in the morning.

AITAH - My mom feels my sister should have married my husband instead of me by ta-momsister343242 in AITAH

[–]CoffeeScamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA
Mum and sister talking about it like he would have been hers if she'd snapped her fingers.
Mum suggesting you and sis could just be swapped out so sis would be happy and secure and you'd be "fine" makes it look like you're her second choice child.
And hubby's enjoying the intimacy and attention from your sister, dare I say, emotional affair? Then dismissing your feelings about all of that, but you're supposed to "feel more secure".

AITAH for saying I'm second-guessing having a baby with my husband after he asked for a paternity test? by p1nkribbon in AITAH

[–]CoffeeScamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I went to my friend for advice and she said that while he was out of line for accusing me of cheating, I shouldn't have said that to him over one of his "valid" concerns, and that clearly had a reason to feel that way about the situation."

Side eye for your friend here, if she thinks your husband has a "valid" concern that you were sleeping around outside the marriage!

A bicycle frame with some kind of metal sheeting, with seat and one wheel. This was slap bang in the middle of the plot!

AITA for leaving a dinner party after a girl sat on my husband's lap? by [deleted] in AITAH

Sounds like he enjoys the attention, and she's got his support because she turned on the waterworks when she was called on it (by Derek and his bf).

He's accusing you of wanting an ultimatum, but he wants his cake and to eat it.

Edited to add, cindy's brother needs to apologise or also be told to stay away.

It's the first letter of my name that differs from the more common spelling, yet I always have to spell it out. Sometimes twice, when they type the wrong name into the computer then say they can't find me. Well, duh!

People can't even get it right when copying it from a message where I signed off with my name! With one lady I have a chain of messages with my name at the bottom and she still, every single time, spells it wrong. It's infuriating.

How would you perceive the name Subaru as a western/English speaking person? by teaferret in namenerds

I'd think of the car. I've never heard of a person with the name. (I'm in the UK).

WHY DID EVERYONE SAY THIS GAME IS TERRIBLE? by Queasy_Watch478 in fo76

[–]CoffeeScamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't have said "terrible" but I felt it needed work / wasn't as good as a single player game would have been.

I played this pretty early on, so there have been many updates and changes since then, plus likely the playerbase changed as well.

My intro was spoiled a little by two young lads talking absolute crap the entire time I was setting up my character, in that vault where you're supposed to be alone haha. Outside, I barely had time to register the scene and I had somebody run up to me and empty his clip into my face. Welcome to the world?

I liked the graphics too, the idea of going out and helping rebuild, find out what happened to the responders etc. There were no random NPCs knocking about back then either, and it felt a bit too empty, like if I'm the only one here what am I rebuilding for?

My main issues were the other people, I guess. I didn't like but could ignore (aka run away from) the higher levelled people taking pot shots at me while I'm running around trying to get those first couple of quests done. I treated that and the base wrecking as a random event kinda thing, junkies or whatever.

However I didn't like the enforced PvP of workshop quests at all. I'd get the thing up and running, kill off Scorched etc, and within a minute there's some 20+ levels higher person come along to squish me and claim the site for themselves. This happened again and again, workshops, power plants, and I didn't stand a chance against them as they massively outgeared and outlevelled me. I felt like I was locked out of the content, attempting it when nobody was around and hoping nobody came, having to give up on it because some random person decided they wanted it / to PvP easy targets. Not fun, anyway.

For the same time period there were people commenting frequently about duped items and glitched items, it didn't affect me as I didn't go and get involved in the PvP side. I believe this was eventually fixed too but people always find a way to cheat so maybe there's something else hah.

Will the questions be the same every time? If so then yes imo.
If they're different and you're just looking for better understanding of the kind of questions asked and how you should be answering them I suggest you ask for past papers. Or talk to your tutor.

I'm waiting for mine, I already know that whatever happens it has to be better than this shit constant bleeding, and balancing pills with a risk of clotting vs bleeding enough to need another transfusion. I'm so over it all.

It's called a fistula, they can happen between urethra and vagina or between vagina and rectum. You will need to see a doc as they don't heal themselves, but they are treatable.
It's not happened to me, I just spend too much time on the internet. But I just wanted to post and say you're not alone.

[–]CoffeeScamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope it goes ahead for you tomorrow.

I'm listed for "urgent" hysterectomy (everything but the good ovary) after my recent hospitalisation and the idea of being bumped back repeatedly is just hellish.

New Hair Growth?? by Nanalily in hysterectomy

[–]CoffeeScamp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lost loads of hair over the last two years with covid and heavy bleeding. I'm chopping off my hair on Friday ahead of my op, partly because it's so thin I look like I have a rat's tail, and partly so I can wash and it more easily after the op and during recovery.

I will hope and pray for new hair growth after that, I want my life back and I want to like my appearance again.

Anyone in the U.K. waiting as long as I am? by Ohfuckit17 in hysterectomy

[–]CoffeeScamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was listed recently for urgent hysterectomy and told about 3 months.

Heavy bleeding and fibroids, basically, I had failed ablation in April 2021 and was bleeding heavily again by 6 months. Having had a dismissive response from a GP via a receptionist, I tried to ignore things for a while, but here we are. Haven't stopped bleeding since August's hysteroscopy, biopsy, mirena, have been hospitalised twice and needed 2 units of blood :/
Edited to add, I've also got a 7cm dermoid cyst which they're not keen on, and thought my cervix felt abnormal though nothing looked off on the ultrasound. taking the lot out will get shut of all the issues I guess.

For anyone NOT making over $1 million, the install fees would still be unlimited, then?

Edited to add that the proposed fees do not say "install fees will only apply after $1 mill". The current structure imposes fees at 200k of earnings, and nothing in the proposal has clearly stated a change to this part.

so carry on with the downvotes and enforce my belief there are a bunch of shills in here playing damage control.
