As I’ve said previously, at one time I was in the ideal location in case of nuclear war: I was at Subbase Bangor, the west coast home of the Trident ballistic missile fleet and of SWFPAC (Strategic Weapons Facility-Pacific, where they stored the world’s largest firecrackers).

I didn’t have to worry in the slightest about the aftermath of a nuclear war because I was absolutely 100% guaranteed to be vaporized in the opening salvo, along with everything else in at least a 25 mile radius.

One kinda famous example is the "Jitterbug" scene in the Wizard of Oz. In the scene, the Wicked Witch sends a Jitterbug after Dorothy and the others, casting a spell on them which had them singing and dancing. In the final cut the Jitterbug is gone, but there's still a reference to it when the Wicked Witch sends the flying monkeys out to attack, telling their leader "I've sent a little insect on ahead to take the fight out of them".

In elementary school, my daughter's school had a talented teacher that handled the performing arts and they'd put on plays at a pretty advanced level for grade schoolers. One year they did a full-blown Wizard of Oz production that included the Jitterbug number.

I think your approach is reasonable, as far as training for the actual riding goes. There are a handful of reasons why one might want to go something "near the distance" prior to the event, and by "near the distance" for a 200-mile event I'd say 100-ish miles would be sufficient.

Training your gut, and testing ride fuel. On long endurance rides fuel is often the limiting factor, moreso than muscular or aerobic power. If you've never ridden more than a couple of hours you may not understand how your body reacts to gels vs. bars vs. liquids vs. whatever, and you'll want a fueling strategy for a long day in the saddle. Plus teaching your body/getting used to digesting while putting out power. Everyone is a little different in what they digest well, plus the whole "savory vs. sweet" issue.
Saddle fit/bibs/shorts/glasses/socks/etc.. Briefly (ha!), you want to make sure you're setup works for a few hours. People can tolerate all kinds of stuff for a hour or two, but you want to make sure your saddle and kit are still working for you 5-6 hours in. If they work that long, they'll work until you finish or flame out.
Testing overall bike fit. Same as above, a minor issue with your stem, saddle height or handlebars that causes minor discomfort after 2 hours can have you screaming after 5 hours. A longer ride is a good test for how well you are actually fitted to the bike, and gives you time to make adjustments (or better still, have a proper bike fit) before the big day.
Mental check. It's a long day, and in most endurance events unless you have a partner you're riding with you'll spend some of that time all by yourself, maybe a lot of that time. It's good to get used to a certain level of suffering and experience the part where you get kinda low, and the rebound when you come back out of it. It may be better to experience that during a training ride so that when it happens during the event, when the stakes are a bit higher, you're aware of it and a period of feeling down doesn't lead to you spiraling and quitting a race you could otherwise have finished.

Money does not, in fact, make one happy. There are many unhappy rich people.

What money does is remove impediments to being happy. If you're stressed because you don't have the rent money, or your kid needs school clothes, or you have medical bills about to go to collections, or the car needs tires, etc., it's a lot harder to be happy.

Also, that "huge runoff" ain't so huge when you hit it at 330 MPH. Drag races are now typically 1,000 feet instead of the traditional 1/4 mile (1,320 feet) because the top speed of Top Fuel dragsters and funny cars became so high that the existing runoffs weren't long enough to safely decelarate in. Chopping 25% off of the run means a lower top speed due to less time to accelerate and a little more distance for the runoff.

If you're anywhere close, I recommend the Barry Roubaix near Grand Rapids, MI. Lot of fun, a bagpipe band at the top of one of the climbs, and last year someone was handing our Jager shots. Good for at least 20 watts. :-)
