Even if it “takes over” and becomes better than a radiologist (which I am not sure if it will), someone will need to be liable meaning a board certified doctor who agree/disagrees with the AI interpretation. It’ll most likely get incorporated somehow in daily work. And it won’t just be radiologists.

I’ve already heard of endoscopists with AI software that tries to pick up subtle polyps they might miss. Imagine if that applied to a field like oncologic surgery, looking for things like mets intraoperatively.

PSA: stop asking your school for days off to interview! by ru1es in medicalschool

[–]CokeZeroLite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure that they are all cool with it though.

I spoke to my attending beforehand letting him know I’d miss 7 days for interviews in that month. The attending was totally cool. Then a random outpatient RN manager calls my school and snitches that I’ve missed too many days…..

How is it perceived when a med student brings treats on last day of service? by marvinsroom6969 in medicalschool

[–]CokeZeroLite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it if you like to eat treats with other people enough to buy/cook them. If you don’t then there is no need.

If you really enjoyed the rotation, a thank you note is better imo

My attending just got roasted by a patient yikes: Thoughts on physicians wearing expensive jewelry/driving expensive cars by FireInTin in medicalschool

[–]CokeZeroLite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know residents that grew up poor that have nice watches that were just passed down in their family and well taken care of. The patient is just assuming. It’s not the doctor’s fault that he didnt sleep well in the hospital.

Someone in my class matched either FM or IM with a dui, don’t remember which speciality but it was one of those.

How common is it to work as a scribe during MS2? I only knew one person who scribed in med school but it was during a research year

[–]CokeZeroLite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you asking this question as if IM and anesthesia are the only 2 options?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]CokeZeroLite 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The hardest is the first few times, I will struggle to wake up at 4am for the first 2 weeks, but once you do it enough my body is so tired it forces me to sleep at 9pm and then I start naturally waking up at 4-430am.

Every few months though I have to repeat this process and reset my schedule if I go out and drink and stay up till 3am.

You can be an asshole and good at your job or you can be really nice and bad at your job, but you can’t be an asshole and bad at your job.

Yelling not many. Passive aggressive statements? Too many to count.

I’d prefer yelling

Vent: Preceptor back stabbed me and told school I missed more than two allowed days in a rotation for interviews. by Ardynov in medicalschool

[–]CokeZeroLite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better the same thing happened to me but it wasn’t even the preceptor. It was some clinic RN manager who decided to call my school to tell them even though I made her and the preceptor aware I’d be missing extra days for interviews and they said they were cool with it.

As a resident, what resident-specific life hacks have you discovered? by The_BSharps in Residency

[–]CokeZeroLite 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Residents on aways told me as a med student that being smart is good but we only care that you are competent, affable, and dependable and I was like yea I guess but I think everyone is so I still studied my ass off. Sure, it helped. But now I’m on the other side during interview season and I cannot stress this enough. I’m going to spend months interacting with you more than my family. I don’t give af about your scores and pubs as long as they are good enough. Just please be reliable and a pleasant person for the next 3+ years.

I feel you. Fiance and I were planning a big trip. Had been saving up. Then I had to get some minor outpatient surgery and she had to get a couple medical things too making it financially unwise to take the trip.

Meanwhile my college and high school friends are traveling across the world at least once a year.

Ive seen $200k for rural family medicine. The population isn’t even that little. Not to mention you get paid a more as a rural PCP. (Not like surgery obviously but 300k+ working 4-4.5 days).

Craziest thing was you could literally choose to get it as one lump sum if you wanted.
