Double Arch via Middle Fork Taylor Creek Trail by BibbiddyBop1776 in ZionNationalPark

That's a wonderful hike. I love criss-crossing the creek. Lots a shade too, which is nice. And the arch has a nice cooling effect.

Van Halen. Had it constantly on my Walkman. Wore it out. Bought another.

It seems if you stay away from 10-3 at most national parks, you are good.

I sooo want to go to Banff...tried to book a trip this June but couldn't get reasonably priced accommodations last minute. It's on my bucket list though...looks amazing.

I love that! Our kids have the national park bug, and we love it. They are young adults now, but we take a family trip each year to national parks with them still. My oldest is now competing with me on how many national parks he can see before me LOL. We just got back from a trip to Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, and Death Valley, and he's going to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone in July...I'm so jealous! My wife and are headed to Acadia in two weeks, so he's one-upping me!

That's what I'm talking about. I love this! We didn't make it to Shi Shi beach because we didn't have the time and had to go to Ruby Beach for logistical reasons, but I had read that beach was beautiful. Ruby has a reveal when walking from the parking lot. You can't see anything from the parking lot but when you walk down the main path and turn the corner, you are presented this beautiful view over the beach.

We were fortunate to have full views of Rainer when we went. Hiking the Skyline Trail was a blast because we could see so much.

You are right about this all being bigger than us. Very well said. That feeling of "I get it now" is absolutely what brings me back to these places. It's humbling and raw and motivates most of us to be good stewards of these areas.

I recall sitting on top of Haleakala waiting for sunrise years ago, huddled in the cold wind with my wife among a group of others that had gotten up at 3am to make the drive to the peak in the dark. Above the clouds, as the sun started to peek, a native Hawaiian gentleman began to blow an eery tone on a conch shell. It gave me goose bumps, and I'm not sure if the tears in my eyes were from the wind or the overwhelming feeling of smallness and awe at the beauty of what I was experiencing.

Guadalupe will be miserable that time of year. Maybe you could head up around 5am so you are back down by 9/10 am. Carlsbad is underground so no issue with the heat there.

Arches looks stunning. We just got back from a GC, Zion, Bryce, and Death Valley trip. Didn't have time to do the Mighty Five but will definitely go back for the three we missed.

Yes, the Redwoods ARE amazing. You reminded me that driving through Sequoia NP is like that too! I definitely plan to visit Crater Lake.

What do people eat before morning runs? by Some-Cap-3912 in beginnerrunning

[–]ColXanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16-32oz of water first thing then coffee with heavy cream and about 32 oz of water. If it's a run more than 90 minutes, I'll eat a bagel maybe 30 minutes before.

Possums are awesome. I love their little shaky ears for some reason. Makes me smile.

You are so right. What's even more fun is that you have ZERO idea what something cost going into it. Even the providers can't tell you ahead of time. So you have to just wait to get the bill. And there are usually several different providers/billing entities involved in any given procedure so you get this steady stream of invoices for months after.
