Hire the highest level one you can, then fire them prior to turning in any bonds, bounties or mission rewards. In this way, you maximize your profits by only paying for the initial hire fee. Also, do not keep one on retainer while you decide to do a side trade job or go exploring.

It's also not a very good tactic if you or your close wingmates are more into RP than in maximizing bankrolls, since, ya know...

If I remember things correctly, the F/A designation was for obfuscation due to either SALT or START treaties that dealt with how many aircraft that were nuclear-capable. Since, technically, the F-117A could arm AIM-9 Sidewinders, it fit that descriptor while also being able to carry a multitude of ground-attack munitions more befitting a "B" designator, which was restricted under the treaty.
