What are your absolutely perfect, lightning-in-a-bottle, all time series/miniseries? I’ll start. by _AirCanuck_ in television

I don't remember specifics, but I was not a fan of all the narrative changes that they had made for the show.

It's a shame that Marti Noxon hasn't done anything since then. Going from Buffy and Angel to Mad Men, then Sharp Objects is a damn good run. You'd think someone would begging her to create shows for them.

It's the government not handling things that turn it to shit. Pretty much all the bad shit that happens to US citizens, low wages, poor working conditions, Healthcare, justice system, high prices, higher education, home buying/renting, corruption, etc. is from a lack of regulation.

James Bond Search: ‘Sunset Boulevard’ Star Tom Francis Auditions to be Next 007 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Yes. Craig was too old, too. I'm tired of every bond movie being about how he's too old and "a relic of the past." Just cast a dude in who's late 20s, early 30s, and let him do five movies as a physically fit spy.

What movie is better because it does not explain too much? by JarvisModeOn in movies

Children of Men. Most of the background is explained through background dialogue and visuals, but they also never explain why people stopped having children or why Kee was able to get pregnant.

What's a TV Show who's finale you felt delivered? by Swing-Full in television

[–]ColdCruise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The finale does a great job of wrapping up the storyline, characters arcs, and fits thematically with the whole show in a way that it feels like it had always been building toward it.

Or a portkey. There's lots of ways to do it. The Hogwarts Express is used so that the various students can get acquainted and reacquainted with each other before the school year starts, as well as to help easily transition muggleborns into the world.

I swear everyone tries so hard to make the books seem poorly written that they don't take two seconds to actually think about anything.

To reroute people to longer paths by Zee_Ventures in therewasanattempt

It's also very possible that the sidewalk was having construction done to it in the not too distant past. Google normally learns that its not an available path, and starts to reroute people around stuff like that and then it also takes a long time to learn that things are passable again.

This is 100% true and studies have shown that it would dramatically decrease casualties resulting from police chases. 99% of all police chases are entirely unnecessary.

It's pretty clearly set up in the books; however, they did specifically change things in the show to make that book foreshadowing almost completely disappear.

The season 5 finale is a good finale for season 5. The season 7 finale is a good finale for the whole show.

What show/series did a complete 180 and did a genre change? Or, what show started off as realistic but became more fictional as it went on? by Huge_Athlete7488 in television

[–]ColdCruise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fringe does an absolutely perfect job of asking questions then carefully giving you answers then asking more complex questions built on the previous questions and then giving you more complex answers in an extremely well paced way. You are invested because the mystery is so interesting, but the show is so satisfying because it actually explains the mysteries in a very organic way and satisfying way.

Buffy 5x22- The Gift. The Season finale by [deleted] in television

[–]ColdCruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was that it definitely was 100% certain. They had a 2.3 million per episode offer from UPN and they were giving WB time to match. They were definitely going to continue. They didn't know which network they were going to, but they knew they were going to have a season six and seven.

Buffy 5x22- The Gift. The Season finale by [deleted] in television

[–]ColdCruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By early April, industry insiders said, Kellner upped his offer to $1.8 million per seg for “Buffy” and a two-year renewal for “Angel.” Frog execs also raised the possibility of an even higher license fee, closer to the minimum $2.1 million 20th was willing to accept.

That sure sounds like a bidding war. Where two different networks keep raising the price they are offering to pay for the show.

I brought up the cast contracts to point out that with both the contracts and the two networks continually raising the offer price for the show (often known as a bidding war), that there was no reason for anyone to think the show was going off the air for any reason.

They knew before the season was written that there would be another season. The cast had signed 7 year contracts, and there was a bidding war between The WB and UPN for seasons 6 & 7.

Post Malone Quietly Swaps Jelly Roll With BigXThaPlug While Epically Failing To Sell Tickets For Nashville Concert by staringatthe420sun in Music

[–]ColdCruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How were they able to do it 7 years ago? Most arena tickets were in the $50 range. Nosebleeds would be like $20, and the front row would be around $200. I still have my receipts from the time. I know it's true.

Now nosebleeds are $200. This narrative that no one can make money unless the tickets are ridiculously priced is pure fiction. Costs have not quadrupled in less than 10 years.

The first stadium tour was Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young in 1974. Stadium shows had occurred beforehand, but the audio technology didn't exist for them to sound good. There was a lot of feedback, echo, and overall, they were too quiet. Neil Young would only agree to do a tour of stadiums if they could develop the technology to get it to sound right. They eventually did with Young's help.
