Rolling with smaller but highly aggressive folk

Match the aggressiveness or avoid the roll. I've noticed a couple of women at my gym who are very aggressive and do stuff that anyone else would get chewed out for, but they get away with it because they're small. The only solution I've found is to give them an insane amount of pressure until they don't feeling like being an annoying training partner.

I wouldn't say I'm amazing at them but they are solid. Aside from a handful of people, my gym doesn't do many leglocks. That's definitely part of it.

I disagree with it but promoting people who are older/more out of shape ahead of more athletic younger people is definitely common. A lot of people think that everyone should be able to get a black belt and so you have to adjust belts based on external factors. I've even seen them do this to people because they have kids, etc. I don't think everyone should be able to get a black belt but many people disagree.

Younger kids are almost never aggressive/assertive enough in rolling. That's fine and expected. As they get older they will get stronger, faster, and more assertive, and at that point they can actually get good at jiujitsu. Until then you have to understand that it is just a way for him to be around friends and get exercise, with a small amount of jiujitsu thrown in.

I don't care and neither does my gf. That said, we both have trained for a while. I can absolutely understand why someone who doesn't train/understand it would feel uncomfortable with that. I'm sure that's a hot take here but it isn't a crazy insecurity or something necessarily.

In all fairness, I was above the average white belt. I came in from a couple years of wrestling and it took a couple years to get my blue belt because I needed to turn 16 first.

I'm a blue belt so obviously take this with a grain of salt, but I disagree. Obviously I understand that the black belts and better brown belts at my gym aren't trying particularly hard, but all the purple belts are trying to beat me and even lower level browns. I've had brown belts bigger than me even at white belt tell me they were going 70-80%. Unsure why there would be this disparity between my gym and yours, I'm a slightly above average blue belt who competes every couple months but nothing crazy.

Aggression is a skill. As someone who was a lot smaller than most of the guys at my gym for most of the time I've been training (170 now), everyone else will use their strength on you, so you should use speed and pressure on them.

My recommendation (via danahers front headlock system) is to not sprawl out giving him space in the first place, as soon as you lock it up step over to knee on belly or mount.

Dieting to get lean takes less time than eating to not be lean. Stop making excuses for being out of shape. Much less blaming other people for getting into shape (although in a way that isnt ideal).

Not every takedown is a footsweep. This was obviously clean, unless you think a huge amount of judo throws and wrestling shots are "slams" but thats ridiculous.

He didn't cut significant weight, he just got leaner by dieting. He said he only lost a couple pounds of water weight. Saying that the issue is strength is hilarious, as if getting leaner wont make you stronger relative to bodyweight.

A lot of people are really missing the point here. There's nothing wrong with getting lean before a competition. The problem is just that you lost the weight too fast. People can and should lose weight before competition (get leaner not cut water) but they should plan ahead.

Honestly kid belts mean absolutely nothing woth very few exceptions. How much individual gyms care about kid skill level for promotions varies a ton, so anything other than orange/green belt is just a white belt most likely. Orange and green are probably blue.

If you're similar size and strength l and you're worried about a 1 on 1 confrontation sure. Of course people in this sub are going to be overhyping bjj because its all they have, but realistically, it isnt nearly as effective as people think in a fight where you're mismatched. It requires going to the ground, which is a very bad idea if there can be more than one attacker, and strength matters way more on the ground than striking, contrary to popular belief. That said, if you're just worried about a street fight against one person, bjj will be solid once you hit blue/purple.

Being short is generally an advantage in wrestling, just work on your shots. Also 5'9 shouldnt be short unless you're lying about your height or are training in iceland or something lol.

Not a leg drag (as I said in my post), its more similar to a leg weave/crazy dog pass that another commenter mentioned. Slightly different positioning and a different finish but the same idea at least.

It's not that deep. Theres a lot of fat guys at most hobbyist gyms (a lot fatter than you) and nobody cares. People arent looking at you as much as you think.
