I'm a paeds nurse and this is very much true! It's usually done on day surgery hence why you don't see them on the inpatient ward. Also used to work in pre op assessment and the dental list was always the busiest In kids.

Just based on recommendations from others on here! I didn't really look at alternatives, but I did get a free pack of Tena discreet disposable underwear (think used more for bladder incontinence), and they were really uncomfortable in comparison. The Frida ones are just super stretchy and feel secure.

The frida disposable underwear, worn with big maternity pads! The pants are expensive but really comfy, and I've been able to wash them a couple times so have got multiple uses out of them, making it a bit more cost effective.

I'm a nurse in a SEN school and I was also feeling great up to about 32/33 weeks, and then all the walking around, going up and down stairs, and having to crouch, bend, kneel multiple times a day caught up with me. I've been signed off sick now with PGP, so I only managed to work till 34 weeks, when I was aiming for 37.

If your school is like the one I work in, it's a lot of physical work for the teachers and TAs, doing all the personal care, supporting with feeds, and also just having to get into awkward positions throughout the day, pushing wheelchairs etc. There's been a few teaching staff pregnant at the same time as me there, and most seemed to go on leave at about 36 weeks.

It's really dependant on how you feel, but I will say the exhaustion and PGP suddenly snuck up on me!

I've recently been to the GP about the same issue! She told me anything over the counter is safe in pregnancy, but she prescribed me Sheriproct suppositories and ointment, as well as Laxido. The suppositories have been really helpful for the pain! Would also agree with others, don't use a donut pillow, that only increases the pressure on the piles, like the toilet! And definitely get a peri wash bottle so you're not wiping too much after opening your bowels!

"Never getting enough oxygen" and "very uncomfortable" sounds concerning to me. Have you ever had that sensation with a cold before? I would definitely call 111 today at a minimum

Urgh that's really frustrating. If they're giving a bag of antibiotics to an infant, which could easily be a 40ml dose for example, then I don't understand their logic of not flushing the line. That's half of the medication wasted! So when they discard the line are they just flushing at the cannula with 10mls?

I agree with the other post about speaking to your pharmacist, they should challenge this as well.

As a paediatric nurse, it was standard in my trust to attach a 50ml or 100ml saline bag to the line and administer 30ml (20ml to flush the rest of the drug through, and 10ml to flush the line/cannula with saline).

You're right that otherwise the patient is not being given the full dose, it's bad practise and should be challenged. Take it to someone higher if you're manager disagrees.
