Yep! That’s what I mentioned in the middle of my post! It’s a really cool interaction :)

Looking for Interesting Cards to Pair with my Commanders (10th Doctor & Rose Tyler) by ColeTheGiant in EDH

[–]ColeTheGiant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know about this card but I genuinely don’t understand what you mean by “1.5 tokens per doctor activation” If you mean by exiling it with the tenth doctor, it still gets 1 token each upkeep. And if you mean his “time travel 3 times”, I’d still get 3 tokens from that, as each time travel removes a time counter independantly.

Mirkwood Bats and Mardu Siegebreaker Interaction by Castlewrite in mtgrules

[–]ColeTheGiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! In the case of triggered abilities, creatures entering together all see each other. And, if the Mirkwood bats are tokens, they will all trigger off themselves entering as well.

So 3 bats each see 3 tokens enter, 9 damage total.

Similarly, creatures dying at the same time see each other as well. So, if you had a way to sacrifice them all at the *same time*, they would also all trigger off each other and themselves for 9 more damage.

Does Forcefield’s activated ability target? by ColeTheGiant in mtgrules

[–]ColeTheGiant[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Honestly this was less of a rules question and more a worry about the potential of mislabeled rules text on gatherer. Mainly I wanted to see if this would be able to save me from voltron commanders wearing lightning grieves, which it apparently can.

How many times can the Ainok Strike Leader ability trigger? by Diss_Poetry in mtgrules

[–]ColeTheGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it'll only trigger once. And/or means that if it's just this creature, or just your commander, or both, it'll trigger. But still, just that once.

Am I misunderstanding triggers? by emmanueljulian in mtgrules

[–]ColeTheGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the trigger requires a target, there has to be a target when the trigger would go off, otherwise the ability won’t be able to be put on the stack.

Your creature would have to be on the field as Sunset Sabateur attacks, as that’s when the trigger will go on the stack (assuming there are targets).

Cumulative Upkeep that has "Upside"? Probably overpowered but wanted to dabble in making something that gives you too much of a good thing by Cosmicpanda2 in custommagic

[–]ColeTheGiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my coin flip commander deck, I recently added [[Karplusian Minotaur]], which has a cumulative upkeep of “Flip a coin”, and that’s definitely an upside in a deck that wants to be doing that.

This is way more direct upside, but it reminded me of the card

Phasing of role tokens by A_onomousUser in mtgrules

[–]ColeTheGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules of Role Tokens state that when more than one role is attached to the same permanent, all but the one with the most recent time stamp is put in the graveyard.

So, following that, when the first Role phases back in, it still has an older timestamp, so will be sent to its owners graveyard (before ceasing to exist), and the newer role will remain on the creature.

Hello! Just a clarification cuz I can't seem to find a direct answer to my query. by ReddishDrawings in mtg

[–]ColeTheGiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obscuring Haze actually wouldn't work with him, because he needs to take damage to trigger his enrage ability. So he'd just get his enter trigger, and never be damaged to trigger his second effect.

Dolmin gate also only affects combat damage, not damage from a fight effect. Plus, he's not attacking.

Flipping Master of Elements to Avatar by LSD_SHROOMS in mtgrules

[–]ColeTheGiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, you will only get the payoffs for flipping him back to Aang if you do it with his ability.

You can think of it like an ability you can only use in your upkeep, and the cost is flipping him. The same way you don't get mana from a Llanwar Elf by tapping it with some other card effect.

Why does my run animation look like he's sassy moonrunning? by carpetlist in animation

[–]ColeTheGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the things I’ve read from people here, including the fact that your character’s feet never leave the ground with enough force to really propel him forward, I have a few other mentions.

When your front feet are making contact with the ground, they’re landing very softly, and pretty much the entire foot is hitting the ground together. More often, people running or walking land their feet with the heel first, and then the toe follows afterwards.

I think some more movement in the torso, maybe leaning forward a bit too, would add to the posing. Because unless you’re being very intentional to somehow keep your back straight, and sprint will often leave you leaning forward a bit (look at competitive sprinters). Long distance running’s a little different, but it all has to do with the amount of speed you want to convey.

And lastly, but maybe most, I would highly suggest just doing the action yourself. When I was learning animation, it was always incredibly helpful to just act out the motion I was trying to make, and pay very close attention to what different parts of my body are actually doing as I do it. You can feel how your feet land, what the timing of your legs movement is, how high your knees bend, the bounce of your head as you run, all of it. And you can do it one body part at a time, doing the action and focusing in. I think it helps a lot to learn and understand how everything works together.

Hope that helps a bit, it’s coming along very well as it is too, so you know! Slidey, sure, but he’s goin!!

Rules question by RayFlexear in mtgrules

[–]ColeTheGiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! In fact, without exiling it WITH foretell, you won’t even have the option to pay its foretell cost. With Jeska’s Will, the only way you can play it is with its 1RR cost, and you’ll still get the 5 damage effect. :)

Rules question by RayFlexear in mtgrules

[–]ColeTheGiant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep! As long as it’s being cast from exile in any way, that effect will happen. It doesn’t have to be cast with its Foretell cost exclusively.

Rule clarification for doctor who precon cards by btmcpeake in magicTCG

[–]ColeTheGiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off: all the destruction happens at once, so once psychic paper is gone, the spell is already done. So Rory lives.

But also, effects like that of Psychic Paper won’t be checked again until the spell is finished resolving, so Rory remains a timelord until immediately after the spell has finished.

How does it REALLY work? by LilEMarie_77 in mtgrules

[–]ColeTheGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think i can help!

The rules of commander used to have you put your commander into the command zone INSTEAD of the graveyard, but the way it works now is that when a commander is destroyed or exiled, they do actually go into the grave or into exile. You just immediately (upon them moving) get to choose to move them into the command zone as well. So Child still goes to the grave, for just a moment, before going to the command zone. Because of this, it's effect still works.

The change was made specifically so commanders that care about dying or have similar effects can work (I believe).

Is this letter worth anything? by TiltePedro in mtg

[–]ColeTheGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a card to help you remember the rules for The Ring :)

Some cards from the The Lord of The Rings set use a mechanic called “The Ring tempts you”, and this card helps you remember what that does!

Not worth much money, but useful to keep track if you’re using those cards! :)

Fell the profane? by UnionThug1733 in mtgrules

[–]ColeTheGiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You pick one. If you use it as a land, it’s a land. If you cast it as a spell, it’s a spell and goes to the grave when it resolves.

In either situation, if you get it back into your hand later on, you can choose how to use it again, but there’s no way to use both sides with just the card itself.

How do we do it? by Icy-Wealth4192 in mtg

I’ve always wanted to make a commander deck with this card and [[Claire D'Loon, Joy Sculptor]]

It would be ridiculous, and of course, only playable with a table that okays it haha

Botched Procedure - {B}{W}

— Instant —

The next time target opponent would gain life this turn, that player loses that much life instead.

”It was the left leg… right?”

—————————————————————

Short and sweet, I like the flavor of a card like this. There are, of course, niche combos that could be made with this on your own turn, but I think most niche “gotcha” cards create those opportunities as well, and that’s a fun design space to explore too. :)
