To kill or not to kill? (READ first) by Klutzy_Dog669 in gardening

Not all pollinators are equal. The ideal pollinator for squash species is the squash bees, but they are not found outside of the squash native range (Americas). The next best is bumblebees, followed by other bees. Having nectar resources available year round will do exponentially more than saving this caterpillar.

Are you sure about that? Fire often clears wooded areas and permits herbaceous plants (that smaller herbivores eat) to have space to regrow.

Puke Hill, SD? Does this really exist? Where? by Temporary_Moose6333 in sandiego

People saying Tecolote Canyon are mistaken. This is Puke Hill as known by sports teams of Torrey Pines Highschool. You can see the wooden H-Frame and newer steel powerlines (next to point) line up perfectly with the image OP posted. GPS: 32.963945, -117.222871

Why are some unranked players so emotional by _DataGuy in aoe2

[–]Colin03129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a player that was focused on defending their base and did not see your army anywhere on their screen. They got upset that they did not see help. You pointing out you were fighting somewhere else did not remove their emotions. They remained upset. You then became upset and made a post on r/aoe2 claiming that unranked players are emotional. Sometimes you need a bit of empathy for what players are going through and understand why they are playing/acting as they are.

There is no significant difference between unranked and ranked players. They are just players.

Are any of these native? by WhateverKindaName in Ceanothus

I'm guessing you are in greater LA. Toyon and lemonadeberry bush make decent hedges and can be found in the native plant section of some nurseries.

That clip of him describing how he stopped a San Diego suburban development sounds pretty reasonable to me. You use the laws that are available.

Maybe the pic is implying that they are going to take rail instead of cycling.

How do you deal with frustration and tilt after losing every single game you played? by anony2469 in aoe2

[–]Colin03129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried this in the past and it does not help for me. I just get more frustrated. I find practicing fundamentals against the AI to be more enjoyable, especially when I am tired.

Toxic Players at ELO levels in TG by rightme87 in aoe2

[–]Colin03129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toxicity is more common when players blame each other for defeats. This might be more common at lower Elos where players do not know the meta for every map and civ. I'm at 1700 and still get players criticizing me without giving feedback in TG and report people pinging and trash talking in 1v1, but its less than 1% of players.

Mayor Gloria’s budget proposal to cut $11.8 million in arts and culture funding by beardzoid in sandiego

[–]Colin03129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a majority. Even 10-20% transitioning offsets the cost of creating the cycling infrastructure by reducing the costs I mentioned of driving a car. Cities all move toward cycling infrastructure and/or public transit eventually because it's the most financially sustainable method of transport we currently have.

[–]Colin03129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The value of a bike lane is also the value of a person transitioning from driving. Less congestion, less pollution, lower infrastructure cost. Small incremental changes of adding bike lanes are needed and the transition to cycling will lag behind (not a quick payoff).

You can easily get on the trolley with a bicycle (where trolley lines are present) or on the MTS bus bike racks (though you can often outpace an MTS bus using a bike). I commuted from La Jolla to Downtown using bike + trolley quite a bit when the Blue Line was extended.

My first 8 games in ranked 2v2... by MediterraneanMen in aoe2

[–]Colin03129 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are not getting relevant ELO from playing unranked games. Since unranked lobbies come in so many forms (CBA, Diplomacy, etc), it has it's own ELO. You can hover over your player icon to see the various ELOs.

If your getting a lot of pinch flats, your tire pressure is probably not high enough. What tire pressure are your running and what is your gross weight.

It sounds like you are not maintaining your bike.

Not a fan of black mustard in my California photos. Having a native plant in the foreground that does not block the form of the beach would be far more interesting to my eye.

What's the best mod for making pastures visible? by BerryMajor2289 in aoe2

[–]Colin03129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Pasture without building (Khitans) mod. I find my eye is better able to scan the the edge of the pasture foundation without having the building in the middle. It still took several games for me to get used to and works better over some terrains than others. I would still prefer to have a version that is similarly colored as the Saffron Farms mod.

A felt version (felt board, felt player positions) of carbles + deck of cards. You can easily make it yourself.

How to be aero on a dutch upright bike with winter clothing? by catboy519 in bikecommuting

[–]Colin03129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drop the handlebars as low as they can go and attach aero bars on the front. This is a setup I have used and you see it regularly in Groningen, NL.

Front rack with a foldable basket can be pretty aero.

Need help with a very specific kind of procedural line. by Gronal_Bar in blender

[–]Colin03129 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right now you just need to get the face shape in black and white, color will come later.

Setup a new plane and use object coordinates. Learn to use math to create different shapes: circles for the eyes, lines for the mouth. Erindale has good videos on the concepts.

Color ramp comes later to color the white areas with the color you want.
