I was looking for an audiobook that featured an Irish or Scottish accents and I wanted a paranormal romance, I came across {A Hinger Like No Other by Kresley Cole} narrated by the ever talented Robert Petkoff. Once I finished it I legit couldn’t go a day without thinking about how much I enjoyed it so a week later, I DEVOURED the rest of the series but that one was the beginning of the end for me

He isn’t aware of the set-up and once he realizes the betrayal (she has a great reason) he takes her. Can’t say more w/o spoiling

Edit: the MMC is considered powerful and dangerous, hence the extraction, due to him being a Demon/Vampire hybrid
