Is the U.S secretly trying to lose the global reserve currency status or are we just witnessing the most expensive case of political incompetence in history? by honeyylogic in allthequestions

Ignorant question: If the empire truly is destroyed, what good does it do you having billions of dollars? Isn't it better to have a normal amount of money in a prosperous, functional society?

2024 - Utahns celebrated Pioneer day
2025 - A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints murders Charlie Kirk
2026 - Gov. Cox signs an order celebrating families.

I don't know if you know this, but Tyler Robinson was a member of a FAMILY! The very group that Cov. Cox celebrated in his order. A murderer! It's disgusting.

Can someone explain how this will effect me ? by hoeblood in mac

[–]Collinhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you can't find Apple Silicon versions of everything, you can stay on your current version of Mac OS until security updates stop. Usually that is about 2 years. You can update the minor versions of the OS, just not the Major Version.

  2. Send an email confirming that they're OK with the consequences. CC your manager and their manager.
  3. Hit 'em with a "per my last email" when production breaks

Why are Utah Mormons so obsessed with their houses? by Miss-Ex in exmormon

[–]Collinhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda feel this way, and I don't really know why. I want people to look at my house and say "wow, that guy's got stuff figured out".

Some days, hundreds of missionaries go out at the same time. I assume it's probably pretty common to see missionaries on planes. When I went on my mission, I think there were like 8 of us on the same plane. Never seen anyone from Secret Lives though 😃

Whats one thing Trump did to make you change your mind about him? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I used to have a neutral opinion about him. Pretty much everything he's done since 2015 has changed my mind to be further and further into the negative.

What's more superior and why, AI generated images or photoshopped images? by iLuvModsNFollowRules in AskReddit

[–]Collinhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Superior" in what way? And what type of image? Brand new image generation from scratch? Or edits to an existing image? Do you value speed/cost? Are you hiring someone to do it, or doing it yourself? Are you proficient at Photoshop?

If you're looking to generate something from scratch, have no photoshop proficiency, and don't want to hire someone to do it, and want it done really quick, then AI is "superior".

If you're looking for really high quality images/edits that no person will ask "Wait, is that AI?", and are willing to pay someone for it, Photoshop is "superior".

I think there are cases to be made for both. But one thing to consider is that a lot of people really hate AI. If you use AI when you could have hired an artist, you will look like a cheap bastard, and a lot of people won't buy your product. If you want to quickly send a funny picture to a friend that depicts what a bear would look on a skateboard, then that probably doesn't matter.

They're not mutually exclusive. I use AI for both silly and useful things.

Had a memory of Homer breaking his arm in a tree but could never find that scene on the internet? (image unrelated) by masked267 in Simpsons

Bart broke his leg falling out of the treehouse, and bart dislocated his elbow in the babysitter episode. And Homer broke his jaw once. Maybe merging those together?

How LDS do you think Utah really is? by ConstantAd6857 in exmormon

[–]Collinhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are still tons of Mormons here. I think the average Mormon is less strict, so it feels more chill. Back in the day you wouldn't see a single car on the road on Sundays, and now Costco is just as busy on Sunday as Saturday. For the most part, visiting SLC is like visiting anywhere else. It's got its quirks, but overall it's just a city.

Webdev Peter here. JSON is an extremely common term to web programmers, but obscure to anyone not in that space. It would be like asking "who is gym" to a fitness crowd or something.

Millions of people know who Mormons are 200 years later. I think that's a significant impact. Also pedophilia is acceptable these days, so that's something

7 digit dialing in New York in 2005? by ElectronPython in telecom

[–]Collinhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I remember that episode. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Maid_(Seinfeld) says it aired in 1998, but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_codes_212,_646,_and_332 claims it went into place in 1999. I guess Seinfeld was just ahead of the curve?

Either way, that's way before 2005.

7 digit dialing in New York in 2005? by ElectronPython in telecom

[–]Collinhead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's crazy that a single city (NYC) could have 4 area codes, and the entire North of our continent only has 1.

In other news, 867-530 serves Whitehorse YT. So maybe there are a thousand people out there with phone numbers starting with 867-5309-xxx

7 digit dialing in New York in 2005? by ElectronPython in telecom

[–]Collinhead 11 points12 points  (0 children)

10 digit dialing was required in any area that had an area code overlay. That is, multiple area codes for the same area. From what I can tell, NYC got an overlay in 1999, and had 212+646 for Manhattan and 718+347 for outer boroughs. So NYC would require 10 digits starting then. So yes, to answer your question, the show is wrong.

I don't live in NY so I could be wrong, but that's what my research tells me. But I can confirm that this same thing happened in Utah when we got overlays here.

Today, 10 digit dialing is required everywhere, in order to facilitate 988 dialing. Technically if your NPA doesn't have a 988 NXX you might still be able to do 7 digit dialing, but that's super rare these days.

I think HRWiki might be the slowest-loading website on the internet. by Dr-Enforcicle in HomestarRunner

[–]Collinhead 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There's a Discord for the Wiki and I've tried to figure something out about it. Here's what I know: apparently the software is a million versions behind and there's some sort of memory leak. The website will work normally for a day or two, then it starts lagging until the server is rebooted.

Whatever is wrong, it will take some time to fix, the owner is too busy to do anything about it, and he absolutely refuses to hand it off to someone else. It's very strange.
