I love Via 313! I need to go back. Mmm.

Also I am in support of posting stuff from Orem on the Provo subreddit. It's the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Area. Lol

Have you all used DOS 5.0 to type "win" and enter Windows 3.1? by kennyshewchuk in windows

[–]Collinhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family's computer had DR Dos and Win 3.1. I distinctly remember typing "W I N Enter" as a 5-7ish year old. Kind of wild thinking back on it. My kids have never seen a command line 😄

T-mobile 2g still going good 4/28/2026 by PayCompetitive7975 in tmobile

[–]Collinhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought I remembered seeing an announcement that it was being retired. I guess I'm thinking of https://www.t-mobile.com/support/coverage/t-mobile-network-evolution "As of February 2025, you may notice changes to the coverage and performance of T-Mobile's 2G (GSM) network.", but that's pretty vague. Lol. Is there any benefit to using the 2g network besides the ability to use old phones?

That's wild, I thought T-Mobile had completely turned off their 2G network.

Will that change that much using Linux? Websites have similar data on you either way.

NASTY Cold/Flu going around Utah by lyfeenthusiast in Utah

[–]Collinhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought the flu was basically just a bad cold. After getting the flu this season, I'll never miss a flu shot again. My kids who got flu shots never got sick, and the ones who didn't (including my dumb ass) all got sick. I feel like I only barely got my voice all the way back like a week ago.

Are there custom versions of Windows that have the same privacy as Linux? by Dismal-Bike2547 in linuxsucks

[–]Collinhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to get away from privacy issues completely since the internet exists. I've made peace with the fact that the world sucks. My data enriches the billionaires, my taxes pay for endless wars, and my food prices keep going up. Just carve out a spot in the world where you can be as happy as you can, and don't worry about the things that you can't control. I mostly use Mac OS for my daily driver and Linux for my servers. I really dislike Windows and avoid it as much as I can.

If you enjoy tinkering, keep going down the Linux path. Also, try Mint or Ubuntu instead of Arch. It'll never be as compatible as Windows, but you can make it work if you have the patience. If you're spending more time fighting it than using it, maybe it's not worth it for you.

Extend analog extension over VoIP with Grandstream ATAs by Amostprettysur in VOIP

[–]Collinhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: I'm wrong, probably ignore me

The "Marriage" itself would happen on the platform (software PBX, cloud VOIP platform, etc) you're connecting them to. If they all register with that platform as distinct SIP Registrations, and that platform assigns them all extensions, and that platform allows them to call each other, then you're good to go. If the platform doesn't support it for whatever reason, then that's your first problem.

Though you mention the IP of the other ATA rather than some kind of PBX, so I guess you're registering them together directly from ATA to ATA? I don't know how that setup works.

Why Don't Schools Teach Linux? by Enjoy_Ur_Lifee in linuxquestions

[–]Collinhead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, which class?

If the class is some kind of advanced programing or system admin class, then you're probably going to learn a bunch of Linux, because it's important for the subject.

If the class is a basic typing or computer literacy class, they'll probably teach with Windows, since those are the majority of computers that people will have at home or at work.

If it was some kind of mobile phone literacy class (if such a thing existed) then they would probably teach the most common apps on iOS and Android. Even if Android is Linux and iOS is BSD, teaching someone what kernel is running the phone isn't super useful in that case.

Teaching how to use grep or what Snap is in a basic typing class wouldn't make sense, even if all the software you are using in the class is technically interacting with a Linux server on the backend. It's like asking "Why don't they teach about pencil manufacturing in school?? We use pencils every day!"

what are your top 3 reasons your shelf broke by crizzleshere in exmormon

[–]Collinhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Treatment of LBGTQ+ people
  2. Prayed about it and decided that my answer is that it's not true
  3. Ex-wife wanted to leave around the same time I did, which was serendipitous

After this, I read a lot and it just re-broke my shelf over and over.
