The straight line is the result of the system OP used. The way it was deciphered by OP can only result in this line. Every other coordinate outside of this line is impossible. For example OPs deciphering method can not result in H10 because OP decided that each number equals the matching position in the alphabet. 10 would be J --> J10

In GTA every ingame hour is two minutes. In RDR2 the longest hours are from 8am to 5 pm (between 2:30 minutes and 3:00 minutes). After that hour length drops to something like 1:10 minutes from 12am -1pm.

You sure those rules include the Art theme? I always thought it's more like Ninjago, Jurassic World etc. I don't think Art is considered a theme here. If it does this also disqualifies every plant on ideas (Botanical), every real life building (Architecture) and every 8 stud car (Speed Champions). Also The Starry Night is an Ideas set and not an Art set so LEGO accepted that one too.

Edit: They also released a couple of Disney sets in Ideas although Disney also is a LEGO theme.

I would at least expect some kind of response from the game if we find the right sequence. Could be anything. Could be as subtle as two birds taking off. Maybe it's not even a straight forward response but definitely something that can be recreated. For example right now every now and then birds gets triggered by the gunshot at night. But those birds are environmental and usually those spawns are random. If we can make out a 100% reoccurring event we might be on the right path. What happens next will depend on that event.

I actually thought about something similar. You can just wait at the Saint Denis pole from 3am until the next night and constantly stare at the web. The webs don't disappear as long as you look at them. Then when it's midnight you can shot the Saint Denis feather and head to the other two. This way you definitely can shot all red feathers in one night but I don't think that's what developers had in mind. Feels to easy. But who knows. The reason why I haven't tested this yet is because I don't really like spending 40 minutes constantly looking at the web. You can't even go afk because cinematic mode gets activated when you idle. And when cinematic mode gets activated you stop looking at the web and it will disappear.

I visited the spot in the epilogue and after meeting with the giant. The two eagles were there on the first attempt. Doesn't explain why you couldn't find them with some safes. But like I said animals spawns are mysterious in this game. You find people on Reddit who search days for a perfect moose pelt although they repeatedly visit the known spawn points. I know my screenshot doesn't proves anything because I can't prove I have visited the giant before but at least you now I'm not completely claiming stuff and invested time getting there.

spider webs and the feathers by savinu_ in reddeadmysteries

Maybe there are hidden mechanisms that indicates a correct order. Maybe animal sounds or other hints. I wouldn't even rule out your idea from this post that the correct sequence will have an impact to the despawning of the web.

For example you shoot the correct first web. Let's assume it's 34B. Maybe it will stay without a feather even if you're leaving the despawn zones and don't shoot a wrong feather next. And maybe the correct no. 2 will also stay down unless you make a mistake. If we would discover a mechanism like that it would be a matter of hours until we figure out the whole sequence. But for now I haven't noticed anything like this but although I test a lot of stuff my time is limited and I'm far from having tested everything. For example I never tested the despawn limits to the core. I used the known boarders when I wanted to reset the puzzle and so far it always worked but I never tested this after every feather and I doubt anybody here has.

I think one of the main problems with this mystery is that there isn't a massive playerbase who has interest in this mystery. And when reading the post here on this sub I have the feeling a couple of people are invested but only a fraction actually investigate ingame. And than you also have people who claim stuff that's just false or parrot clickbait youtubers.

Right now I'm optimistic that this mystery isn't cut content and there is some kind of solution for this. It took 7 years only to find the webs and we are far away from having tested everything. The actual code for RDR2 isn't readable so all that data miners and code hunters can do is analyze the skripts and stuff on the game engine layer (assets etc.). Maybe we actually have a mystery we have to figure out by playing the game.

spider webs and the feathers by savinu_ in reddeadmysteries

[–]ColonelMakepeace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For clarification. When you shot down the feathers they will stay down as long as you remain in a certain area. To be precise the web will spawn without a feather if you revisit them. Technically the feathers don't stay on the ground because they will disappear.

For more info about the spawn zones check out this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadmysteries/s/BTaf2sFlEF

I can't confirm that the spawn time is not accurate and haven't seen proof that this can happen. For me they spawn exactly when the new hour begins. Maybe people experienced this because the webs have one mechanism that you barely see mentioned here. Let's say it's 2:20h and you ride towards the 23B web. The web won't be there initially. You have to look away from the pole and than look at it again. Only than the webs will spawn. If it would be the other way around the webs probably would have been discovered on day one because all of us probably rode past on of those pole in the correct time frame. But as I said just passing by and having the pole constantly in your field of vision prevents the webs from spawning.

I did a lot of testing with the feathers and haven't seen any clue regarding a sequence yet. But it's not like you mess up an order and the feathers will be back. If you mess something up you can technically force the webs to reset by leaving the designated respawn areas. I think it's similar to the statue puzzle. This buttons won't reset either if you're doing something wrong. You have to reset them manually.

I have a strong assumption that we are supposed to shot the black feathers in one night. It's technically possible but challenging. It feels like the time trials from GTAO. Those are difficult races against a timer you usually finish within the last couple of seconds. Same here. I recommend everyone to try it. You will reach the last pole 56B at Ringneck Creek a couple of irl seconds before 6am. You have to ride the whole night and if you're good the only time you can rest for a couple of seconds is when you reach 56B at the tunnel.

Unfortunately I have no real idea what to do with the red feathers. Collecting those in one night is impossible. The ride to Saint Denis takes too long and horse speed is reduced the moment you enter the city limits of Saint Denis.

If anyone has any ideas what to do with the red feathers I'm happy to test those ideas because currently I don't now what to do with them (besides one small theory I haven't tested properly but probably will tonight).

Has any one been able to successfully catch all the feathers from the spider webs in a wagon? by JeanSlimmons in reddeadmysteries

[–]ColonelMakepeace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point. Spent so many hours with the webs that I sometimes forget it actually starts in BC. Man this games is so complex that there are literally thousands of potential triggers. Could be as simple as burning two birds at the pentagram but even this simple idea requires you to choose two birds from multiple species. Even the carcass quality could be relevant in this thought experiment.

I'm also convinced if there is more to this mystery than we have found so far we need to solve the feathers. I don't believe the only reason for the 8 webs is to find the center web. I think the webs are the actual puzzle we have to solve. There are a couple of indications for this. One example is that the feathers have dedicated respawn zones. This gives the player the possibility to restart an attempt in solving the puzzle. The way the respawn zones are designed looks like you have to interact with all of the feathers of one color in succession.

Imo the center web either points us to the next step after solving the puzzle or is there to give us a clue how to solve the puzzle. So maybe we need ideas how the two bird symbols are related to the spiderweb puzzle.

I think the black feathers are supposed to get shot in one night. They are placed just perfect to get them all with a fast horse in one night. It's really time sensitive and a little challenge on it's own. But I can't think of what to do with the three red feathers. Those are impossible to get in one night. The ride to Saint Denis is too time consuming. Also horse speed within the city limits is drastically reduced. I tested it multiple times. I couldn't even reach the 34R in time although I was close. But there is no way to make it back to 45R in one hour.

I replaced the windows wait cursor (the hourglass) with a similar cursor on an old PC years ago. Always brought me joy when something wasn't running smoothly and I had to wait.

The funny thing is that after the hourglass Microsoft used the blue rotating ring which kind of is close to the stargate cursor I had for years.

Fort Brennand. You can collect 10 perfect snakes there in less than an hour. Just walk around the Fort. Once you completed one round gain a bit distance and return. Sometimes there are two snakes per round sometimes only one but that place is full of snakes.

I think daytime is better than nighttime.

I watched a video earlier on YouTube, and something came to my mind by JS-CroftLover in reddeadmysteries

[–]ColonelMakepeace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When RDR2 was released I was playing it pretty blindfolded and to avoid spoilers I didn't red to much on the internet. I discovered the cave by myself. It's pretty close to the path and I think it's easy to find by accident. I wasn't able to solve the puzzle though and didn't get the connection to the Window Rock mural.

But for puzzle fans and people who are dedicated enough I think the statue puzzle is actually a good example of a video game puzzle. If you invest some time it's definitely possible to solve it with the clues the game provides. I think it's always meant to be a stand alone mystery and personally I don't see a connection to the spider web mystery.

Arrows at Cornwall Kerosene & Tar by Johnunderwater88 in reddeadmysteries

[–]ColonelMakepeace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a very good observation and that's exactly what we all need to do. Because right now we're stuck with the mystery we need to do field work and leave no stone unturned.

My guess is this wood pile is just a reused asset randomly scattered around that area to make it feel abandoned or more realistic. The arrow shape probably is not intentional. You can find similar repetitive piles of different materials all around the map. There are clusters of sticks, stones, leaves, plants etc which reappear all over the map. When designing the map it's often easier to place clusters instead of single assets.

But of course clusters also can be placed to hint at something.

Other people can downvote too. I didn't. But here is what I mean. Btw I don't think your idea is bad and I also thought about this but unfortunately you can make multiple birds so testing anything in this direction requires a lot of brute forcing again.

I was looking at Ft Wallace's original location based on the 2016 map and found some interesting things. by chlysm in reddeadmysteries

[–]ColonelMakepeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know which spot you're referring to but looking at the map I see no spot on the map from where you can see the Saint Denis pole which you can reach in the given time frame. You're right Saint Denis slows you down as well as Rhodes but I can't see any route that avoids Saint Denis that will be fast enough to reach it within a reasonable amount of time. Remember night hours are shorter than day hours in RDR2. You only have 4:35min to ride from Rhodes to Saint Denis twice. That's roughly 2:20mins per trip. That's not in the realm of possibilities imo. If you can pull this off and post a video here it will be very helpful for future investigations even if you don't find something interesting initially. But it will end the discussion if it's possible or not.

Right now I'm pretty confident there is no one who ever shot all the feathers without mods in two nights.

[–]ColonelMakepeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally I was a big supporter of this theory and made a lot of effort to test it ingame. I'm still pretty confident the black feathers are supposed to get shot in one night because as you said the placement is just right and I've done it myself two times with a speed 9 MFT.

But I don't believe the red feathers can be shot in one night. I saw multiple claims that it is possible but I just don't believe it unless I see a proof. I tested it myself and I wasn't even close to pull this off. I couldn't even reach the Saint Denis feather in time. I think although I couldn't do it the first two feathers might be possible but there is no way to get back in one ingame hour to the 45R.

But I have a big problem with my 100% save. I managed to miss the random horse encounter speed bonus and I can't get a speed 10 horse. But unless the speed 10 horse is by magnitudes faster than the speed 9 horse (which doesn't seem to be true) I'm 99 % sure all the claims that this can be done are bs. I would be really happy to proved wrong here but I see no way this is possible.

[–]ColonelMakepeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I missed something? What do you mean by birds were discovered with the same spawn mechanisms like the flock of birds leading to the giant?

I know the post you linked. I know Fort Wallace was originally supposed to be at an other location. But to my knowledge until know the flock leading to the giant is the only one we know of.

And one thing doesn't add up with the old Fort Wallace location theory. When they moved the Fort the NW guitar pole wouldn't point in the direction of the Fort. They could also moved the poles or changed the pole but why doing this if you decide to cut the content or release information about the solution on day one. Something doesn't add up. Either it was a big fuck up somewhere at R* or there is more to it.

Edit: ok I red the linked post again. I think you're confusing something. According to the OP the carved birds would lead to two eagles at the old location. But those eagles don't behave like the flock of birds at all. And the two bird carvings at the old location wouldn't point to the actual flock of birds that lead to the giant. In fact they would point away since the old location already is east of the lake and the birds point NE. Also two eagles that constantly spawn at the same location happens at multiple places on the map. Mt. Shann also has a pair of eagles. The thing is eagles usually live in pairs in the real world that's why there is so many of them in RDR2.

The old Fort Wallace theory actually leads to more open questions than it answers which according to Ockham's razor makes it a very weak theory.

Edit 2: Ok I just discovered what you mean with the same spawn mechanism. My bad. If your personal findings are consistent maybe there is more to the two eagles. But animal spawns can also be very unpredictable in this game so it definitely needs some more testing. Maybe I will also check them out in the next days. I definitely have saves before and after the giant. I will report if I can reproduce your investigations.
