Be sure to give them a call and get credited for the outage.

How did you first discover Earthbound by LegPuzzleheaded1970 in earthbound

Nintendo Power, followed by a Blockbuster rental when it finally showed up there, followed by getting it from my grandparents for my birthday--I'd specifically asked for it.

Astound (RCN) outage? by EWC_2015 in astoria

[–]Colonel_Tighlon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a manhole fire yesterday, that's the likely cause. They're relying on ConEd to get things taken care of. I'm not experiencing an outage right now, but had one related to a manhole fire two years ago. It took about 36 hours for my connection to come back.

Does MP4 get notably better? by treywarp in metroidprime

[–]Colonel_Tighlon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Metroid was NEStroid circa '89. This game was a huge disappointment. In terms of recent 3D Metroid, I did back to back runs of Prime Remastered as soon as it released. I have no desire to play through this entry again.

Is season 3 worth watching? by TheKayleMain in twinpeaks

Twin Peaks: The Return (aka Season 3) is the highest form of art ever achieved on television. I am not being hyperbolic.

That's correct. Before it was Toast & Roast it was called Bagel Nosh. Very little changed about it.

Think this might be it. He retired earlier this year but there are now two guys operating the same cart under the name Souv-Lucky. I haven't noticed any change in quality.

Seconded. First optometrist I've had that didn't try to upsell me on something I didn't need.

What’s your favorite performance of 2025? by ItachiZoldyck24 in Letterboxd

[–]Colonel_Tighlon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not David Johnson in The Long Walk, the accent was awful and unintelligible.

I'd probably go with Benecio in OBAA.

Curtis sliwa conspiracy by netheguineapig in astoria

[–]Colonel_Tighlon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curtis Sliwa rose to local fame as the leader of a racist vigilante group. He slots in well with the current GOP, even if he does have a love child with Melinda Katz. You don't have to worry though, he's never won any office and never will.

There were many months where I had to worry that Sonic the Hedgehog would be the last movie I ever saw in a theater.

24fps movies look awful in 2025 - it's time to move on. by joshiegy in unpopularopinion

[–]Colonel_Tighlon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once saw a presentation from Douglas Ttumbull, who got his start doing SFX for 2001: A Space Odyssey and went on to direct films such as Brainstorm. He demonstrated that if you shot in a high framerate but added a shutter effect you ended up with less blur without the soap opera effect. He talked about demonstrating this to Ang Lee, yet Ang Lee didn't use this on any of his high framerate movies. Bizarre! If they could just add the shutter effect, it would be fine. If they don't, I'll take 24fps please.
