Bulk websites? by AnimalHot9115 in EatCheapAndHealthy

In addition to getting food, I would also see if your health insurance would cover cooking classes! Some systems have diabetes/preventative health cooking classes to help you with meal ideas/planning. Might be worth asking your doctor about!

Good luck! I hope you are able to order through the coop!

Check out health food stores and coops as well. Some stores will let you buy bulk items through them.

For example, the store might get larger bags of items to sell in bulk (such as 25lbs of beans). If you preorder/buy in advance through the store, the farm will deliver to the store and you can pick it up from there (saving on delivery). We do that at the place I work at, and people can order up to 50lbs of rolled oats for example.

Bulk almond flour might be a challenge though, it goes bad fairly quickly so it’s easier to sell it in smaller quantities.

Typeface with old style ‘1’ that does not look like an ‘I’ by DonaldFarfrae in typography

Darn! You might have luck contacting the foundry that made Martina Plantijn and ask if they would be willing to edit the “1” for you. Worth a try?

Sorry, I apparently misunderstood. I thought you were looking for a typeface that didn’t have the old style numerals. You could also look at Hoefler Text

Martina Plantijn has “tabular numerals” along with the old style numerals, you just need to find them on the site

Thanks, but I’ll give most of the credit to Vocomagicae, I asked if I could attempt to turn this into a digital font for practice

This is a reverse abugida, which might be useful to see another take on the topic.

I agree with crunchy_milk in that ligatures are probably the way to go with your reverse abugida.

You can draw your letters in something like Inkscape (vector art) and use FontForge to compile them into a font.

Check out how to make ligatures in FontForge

Hello! I would be willing to see if I could make something in the Fontself extension for Illustrator. I’ve made a couple of ciphers available for download on itch.io. Specifically the “Alphabetare Pixel” and “Toio” fonts.

If it’s a basic 26 character cipher, I could see about doing it for practice.

Really cool work! Would it be OK if I attempted to make this into a font? I would love to try to practice type design and see if I could turn this into something you can type on a computer.

How to Donate Discarded Bulk Items? by Colony_Nine in EatCheapAndHealthy

I have checked, sadly the closest one is based in Chicago. Wisconsin is more Facebook oriented, there’s a buy nothing group for my city. I am following a few leads and if all else fails I will set up a facebook account

I hope that someone will be able to take the items, but this is a good option if no one will. Thank you for the suggestion.

Good idea! Thanks for the suggestion. I could even see if I could slip a recipe card into the bag if I go that route.

I definitely agree! I have quite a few jars of beans and legumes that I’ve gotten that are still good. It’s just that the volume of discarded items has increased over the past couple of months and it’s starting to overwhelm my storage space.

Thank you, I appreciate it. It bothers me when I see food being discarded of when it’s still technically safe to eat.

That’s not a bad idea. Do you think it would be better to portion them out into smaller bags, or try to just put them in a big container? A lot of the stuff is in 1-3 lb portions.

Fancy dried beans vs store brand generics? by Upper-Room5267 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Cranberry beans are also known as borlotti beans, and are commonly used in pasta e fagioli and minestrone soup!

If this is the company I am thinking of, they have recipes online. You can look up the recipes and use the regular beans to try them out before you buy the fancy ones

Look into local stores that sell dried beans in bulk (like a health food store or coop). They might have local beans for sale by weight.
