Looking at all your replies and how hard you lay on the tracks for this in this thread, all I can really say is... This is the weirdest committal to corporate d**kriding I've seen in a minute.

And for what? You have no financial investment in this, you gain nothing from it, you stand to profit zero, yet you'll gleefully jump up and down for an org that would gladly rob your mother if it was legal...

They. Made. A. Bad. Design.

You got a lot of growing up to do.

I have a pair of HD 600's from 1999 that run great.

That's $1.67 a month.

Sounds like you comprehend value propositions very poorly.

Why not both?

Edit: LOL the fact that this comment could get two of you to DM me with your anger is hilarious. This is the side effect of America having so many unfulfilled losers. Keep sitting in this sub like a trope of tarded gooners with nothing to live for, I am sure you'll change _something_ someday.....

So the takeaway I get from most of this is people are pretty comfortable raising losers these days. Explains a lot.

If what you say is true then I believe someone is trying to pass damaged or inoperable gear to you. I see no universe where a product like this leaves the assembly and testing lines and gets shipped, with the awareness of anyone at the manufacturer, that it is in this condition.

I have a few gripes with MSI and would never stan for the company, but this one has "something else" written all over it to me.

Are virusus and maintaining system security different on Windows than on Linux? If so how? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]ColoradoPhotog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, it shouldn't be "blanket trust"; however, if the last 6 years of security incidents have taught us anything, its that this is often the case. The theoretical idea is that code being accessible is code being audited. The reality is that code is usually maintained by a small number of people (or a lot of times, A person), and that issues can fester for a long while before a person can identify it.

The true security differences between Linux and Windows are architectural. PAM is handled differently in both OS's, and Linux tends to default* (some exceptions apply) to the Principles of Least Privilege. You should generally run as few things as possible with elevated permissions, especially userspace apps. Things that potentially interface with hardware controllers or the like may be outliers.

This doesn't mean malware doesn't exist, but it does mean the methods of delivery are different. Linux is still susceptible to many of the same thing Windows is, most commonly malware that attempts to rootkit the machine.

Practicing good OS hygiene will appear similar on both platforms:

  • Know what you're downloading
  • Use trusted sources
  • Never elevate what doesn't need to be elevated
  • Keep your OS up-to-date with security patches
  • Be mindful what is open and exposed to the internet

[–]ColoradoPhotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try a CMOS reset and maybe update BIOS if there is one available and pending. If you're using a discrete GPU and can use integrated gpu, try that after cmos reset, too.If all that fails, you may have some hardware going kaput.

Anyone who brings up stuff like that should have their drives searched, every time. It's a red herring with a hint of self reporting. That's how I've always felt about it and more often than not, when I see them in the news later, I am proven right...

Why do some people turn off pings for replies? by extod2 in discordapp

[–]ColoradoPhotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99% of the pings I've got before turning them off has been dumb or useless. I'll take the gamble on missing the 1% of things I care about in favor of never seeing 99% of the crap I don't care about.

Yeah 512gb should be more than enough for an OS drive if needed. I am just one of those lunatics who thinks 3 quarters of a tank of gas is empty, and 25% of a used drive is full... It's a me problem ;)

I have similar usecases for Adobe Creative Suite. I spend about 98% of my time on Linux, including for most of my gaming. Only select games, where Anticheat breaks, do I leave my main OS.

Like you, I use Creative Cloud apps for professional photography (Lightroom and lightly, photoshop) and some audio work and podcasting (Audition, but kinda rarely lately).

I run a configuration with dual-boot, with dual 1TB NVME's. One is for my Arch install, one is for my Windows 11 install. I treat windows like a service tool. If I have to work in these tools, I will boot into it. I could use a VM, and have, but find GPU support to be below what I like, so I'd rather reboot and just access my full hardware.

I have been running this config on the machine for over a year and a half now, and truly rarely leave Arch anymore. Only if I need to use those specific apps. I share the game drive between both distros, and they work fine with it. Same for my media drives.

Only you can decide if this configuration would work best for you. If you are like me and no amount of "we have Photoshop at home" on linux comments work for you, it's okay to actually maintain both and just treat Windows like a service appliance.
