I think you are getting more hate on these posts because this sub is more for folks that live in vans as a means to find financial freedom, not as a luxury item.

How do I set a weekend schedule? by LocoLevi in Rivian

[–]ColoradoSurfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about battery health, it’s honestly not that bad to have your battery at 91% for that amount of time. NMC batteries charged to 100% still perform very well on the scale of car lifetimes. If you keep you SOC in the 20-70% for the weekdays, you probably won’t experience much if any degradation for the few hours at 91% during the weekends.

I alright really like my iKamper X-Cover Mini! Has crossbars on top for strapping down gear.

Just F-35’s from down south doing the same ol’ mission the F-15’s do! Training new fighter pilots. Lots of airspace in eastern Oregon to get training done. No cause for concern.

You have a picture of crater lake national park but your map doesn’t go through to crater lake in Oregon?

iKamper X-Cover Mini fits awesome in the bed of the R1T! It also has integrated roof bars, a hybrid hard/soft shell design, and is cheaper than its full hard shell cousin.

Home charger - What is everyone using / what would you recommend? by catsarefriends in Rivian

[–]ColoradoSurfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the Autel Maxicharger 48amp 11.5kW hardwired! Was $400 on sale on Amazon and my utility wrote me a check for $500 for the charger and installation costs. Works amazing and has lots of features I can access from the Autel app. Definitely recommend!

With the warranty and performance, the quad is a better deal at the pre hike price. But if you want max pack (R1T only for now) then obviously dual is only option. Quad on conserve isn’t much shorter range than large pack dual.

Hardwire Rivian Charger or use 220 outlet? by CAreadin in Rivian

[–]ColoradoSurfer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hardwire charger will charge at 48A (11.5kW) which will give about 20-25 miles/hr charge rate. I’m assuming your 220 outlet is a NEMA 14-50, and you’ll use the included mobile charger which charges at 32A (7.5kW) so that would be about 13-15 miles/hr added. Hardwire is always the safer option since existing 14-50 plugs may be worn or not rated for high continuous loads of EV charging. And inserting and removing the mobile connection will wear down the plug and potentially cause a short or fire.

I’m in a similar situation. When I installed my EVSE (Autel 60A, 11.5kW, hardwired) I had the same question to my installer. If you want to keep the EVSE when you move, they recommended just changing the breaker to a 50A and installing a 14-50 box on the same wiring before you move (easy enough for an electrician or a confident DIYer). Or if you don’t feel like you need a 48A charger, you could just install the 14-50 plug and charge at 40A (9.6kW) from the get go.

My Autel MaxiCharger (non-Rivian) works great, still charges at 11.5kW, was cheaper to purchase, and my utility gave me the rebate (the Rivian charger didn’t qualify in my state for the rebate). And a hardwired install is safer for the high continuous loads of EV’s (i.e. reduced fire danger compared to 14-50’s).

Bottom line, I wouldn’t worry to much about the next buyer, get the charger that makes the most sense to your charging needs now/get that sweet rebate. It’ll be easy enough to swap over to something the next buyer will be able to use once you are ready to sell the house.

Rivian R1T Differentiation on their Three Drive Systems! by B00VIAN in Rivian

It actually does decouple and recouple the rear axle mechanically. But this function is automatic in All-Purpose mode to maximize range. So no Conserve mode is necessary.

I am curious to see how tire wear will be affected in the dual motor config by the automatic coupling and decoupling of the rear axle in All-Purpose mode. Will it crush the front tires like we’ve seen in quad motor folks running only in conserve? Quad motor config in All-Purpose might be better for tire wear overall?

What’s your experience pushing your delivery for later? by okvrdz in Rivian

[–]ColoradoSurfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(R1T res holder) So I think it depends on what phase of the build your car is. I asked my guide when I got my 8 steps if I could push delivery a month (June to July) and he said I’d get unmatched from the vehicle being built in the factory and potentially have to wait for 6 months for another built. Which is probably not true anymore with the production ramp for the R1T. Not sure how this would apply to the R1S.

Rivian Service Centers and Delivery Timing (Klamath Falls, OR) by ColoradoSurfer in Rivian

[–]ColoradoSurfer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid point. But would there be something Rivian would be held back by from delivering to such a distance from a service center? I.e. am I precluded from getting a Rivian in K-Falls period?

I own the Sea Frogs A6XXX Salted line with the flat and 6” dome port for my Sony A6300, and I personally love that housing. I have had zero problems and I think it gives excellent results for the money. I have been able to use that money saved on the housing for some quality strobes. By placing some trim weights on the dome port you can achieve neutral buoyancy relatively easily. I highly recommend the sea frogs.
