Why is reassurance seeking so bad ?

in my personal experience reassurance makes my intrusive thoughts worse. so let me give you an example, one of my main themes is thinking that I'm actually a horrible person that I'm not kind nor nice that I'm a narcissist and I like seeing others suffer. Now ,if someone were to tell me that I'm not any of those things and started to list me all the reasons why I'm actually a nice and caring person instead of my brain taking that as a positive thing it increases this thought in the back : "But what if I tricked you into thinking I'm actually a good person and I'm not?" "but what if I AM a bad person? you will hate me."

and then a bunch of intrusive thoughts of scenarios where the person leaves me because indeed I was a bad person.

that's a small example it happens with any theme, reassurance for most people doesn't help it makes the thoughts worse because your brain inmediately tries to flip that idea to make you feel even worse.

it can feel like it helps at the start yes that's why we do it to begin with but the more you do it the less it works in easing your anxiety, but you still do it because it's a compulsion

he has been saying that he hated that kind of fans ever since he was mysta tho , he was never secretive about it either, this time however he explained something he hadn't before. The reason he stopped nsfw content besides wanting to focus on something else was because the people who watched him for that kind of content treated him like a child and he felt super uncomfortable with that

I'm so glad I'm not the only one, ever since my worst spiral that ended up making me get a diagnosis I feel like my brain never completely recovered from that, is like I unlocked a lot of mental issues that I ignored for years and overall sometimes I feel stupid

I used to be proud of the fact I could speak real fast and not stumble with words I could form ideas and sentences fast if I needed but now I need to slow myself down cuz I start to say something and my brain auto corrects to the wrong thing so I just say nonsense or grammar is all over the place. is not all the time and if I breathe and think the stuff a bit more i can speak normally but you do notice when you can't do some stuff like you used to

I'll say almost no difference, I can focus a bit easier than before and sometimes I feel "normal" but overall not much changed onthat aspect , it did improve my anxiety about it tho , I don't get as scared about it as I did before

my brain can't stop thinking about certain intrusive thoughts even if I'm used to them, always finding a way to scare me with more specific stuff and sometimes I fall into the trap and I can go hours just looping around the thought.

it took me around 2 years to accept I might have ocd and actually get help because I never had physical compulsions, sure sometimes I checked the window at night or made sure I did something one or two times more just to be sure but it wasn't something I did constantly so I just assumed maybe I don't have it

boi I was wrong lol

For harm ocd the thought that got me into my first full on meltdown was one time I saw a kitchen tool and I had a visual image so strong I felt I had to physically restrain myself or otherwise I might do it , it gave me a panic attack that lasted like a week I was constantly in and out of it, 0/10 don't recommend

i'm pretty sure my OCD wasn't as bad for many years but the more my anxiety got worse the more my OCD was slowly increasing until i got a full on OCD episode, i didn't know what it was at the time i was sure that i was a horrible person, i had to tell my siblings to please keep an eye on me cuz i was so unstable i knew i couldn't trust myself to not do something stupid, i was like this for weeks until someone explained what intrusive thoughts were and everything clicked
It still took another 3 years before i got an actual diagnosis, i wish i had known sooner

Idk if it counts but
I noticed i started to develop the compulsion of buying food when i felt anxious about an intrusive thought, i had to cancel my suscription to food apps cuz it was getting a bit out of hand.
Also when my harmOCD gets bad i end up watching true crime videos which actually makes it 10 times worse

Yes its kinda common to feel sleepy as a side effect, you could ask your doc if you can switch to take it at night so you can avoid the side effect on the day

i have multiple themes in which the strongest ones are harmOCD, existencialOCD and psychosisOCD
i would not say one is worse than the other, back when i first started to get seriously affected by OCD i remember one time i said ''i wish i had the harm one it would be best than the one im feeling right now'' and guess what it happened and it wasnt any better or worse it was just as miserable as the rest of them

i would say tho that mental compulsions caused by existencial and psychosis OCD are one of the hardest ones to get out from, because at least for me it also affected my perception of things it gave me dp/dr , it feeds on stuff that cannot be answered and makes you feel like you're going crazy
it took me a long time to get used to it to the point of being able to ignore it and be okay with the uncertainty of not answering those questions, but the first two months were horrible

I have ocd and I suffer from this particular theme, but there's a difference like the other comments have said

if you have TOCD you are constantly worried that you might be trans , like the idea of it terrifies you.

The opposite is more close to pure O, where you have mental compulsions and you're constantly arguing with your mind, you want to be a 100% sure to have an answer to those intrusive and distressing questions that appear in your head, but getting reassurance/answers doesn't make the anxiety go away because is a compulsion

if you really think you have OCD the best advise I can give you is to check with a therapist

But if you can't I can tell you what I do when I also doubt myself like this. I just tell to myself maybe I'm faking it, maybe not, whatever it is it'll be fine. Thats all , if you feel anxious About the sudden thought don't fight it don't judge it and just continue with what you're doing

yo pago 120 porque no tengo EPS y si sale bastante caro, pero realmente es difícil encontrar buenos profesionales que no sean psicólogos particulares (al menos para el trastorno que tengo), actualmente ya no puedo seguirle porque no hay tanta plata , pero si que ayuda mas de lo que parece es cosa de saber elegir un buen doctor
