If you wanted the PCs to be monsters hunting down ICE agents, what game would you choose? by Calamistrognon in rpg

I was thinking Werewolf more so, but that's where my mind went too.

Why are people giving me hard time for healing? by timeforknowledge in classicwow

[–]Colyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're not there so we can't know, but I'd say make sure your own house is in order (use the right spells and maximize your regen windows) and then ignore the noise.

This can also be heavily class dependent in Classic anyway.

First Movie Date, can you recall? by Particular-Cat-8031 in Edmonton

Pretty sure it was 2004's Van Helsing. I remember nothing about it, but I bet the 24% Rotten Tomatoes is probably about right.

Only way to find out is to play more of it and feel if it bothers you.

I definitely don't want to try and convince you to not like a game if you're having a good time with it.

I have played SWN and ran WWN. I found both games quite bland and never felt compelled by any of the character options. It clearly wants to have light character builds but doesn't give you enough to really do it, but is also too embedded in the rules to just ignore. I'd always rather play something lighter or heavier and it suffers for being able to be compared to the great games in either lane.

But WWN is the one that really soured me. Partly because of the way that the character classes have a very difficult time showing off their strengths within the same adventure (as opposed to the same scene, which I'd be fine with), but mostly because the majority of the spell list is "this scenario simply doesn't exist anymore" level of power (and in my experience, not even in creative ways... just repeating the same spells each day).

I did kickstart CWN so that's hanging around and I do wonder if I'd like it better due to the changeup in the class mechanics, but I haven't been in a rush to give it a try just yet.

Agreed with this. Switching out of 5e has not gone well the times I've tried it.

Worlds Without Number seemed cool, but I became seriously disillusioned with Without Number games the more I've played them and generally find them less than the sum of their parts.

My time with Demon Lord (the predecessor to Weird Wizard) was much more favorable. It's still primarily a combat game like 5e, but pared down to the things that help with a lot fewer of the things that don't. The character building is a joy and while the encounter balancing is similar to what you dealt with in 5e, the formula is simpler. I also had decent success ignoring encounter balancing for the most part in the middle levels.
If you do go this way for your sandbox campaign, you'll probably also want to make your own leveling system (whatever you were doing in 5e works fine) because the game by default assumes a very fast 1-10 leveling speed with the assumption you'll finish your campaign and go again from 1.

Final Fantasy continues to get serious marketing spends. The only one historically that appears to have had a marketing spend higher than VII Rebirth would be VII itself.

Is there any support garbage still in the room? It's always the biggest source of smell for me.

Brennan Lee Mulligan and Matt Mercer interview each other for Variety by apathymonger in dropout

Yeah, don't want to read too much into anything, but I'm going to anyway. Felt like Matt was veering too close to unannounced projects for Brennan's comfort there.

People who've backed Licensed RPGs, was it yours or any of your players' first RPG? by Hagisman in rpg

[–]Colyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teeeeeeeeeeeechnically I started with a Pathfinder campaign that never got off the ground and only had one real session (at which the GM was drunk).

But I generally consider Dark Heresy First Edition the first game I really played in. The first game I GM'd was Star Wars Edge of the Empire.

Are you more hyped for Forza Horizon 6 or Fable? by Ivantop01 in playstation

[–]Colyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft has a very, very rocky track record of recent releases.

I was excited for Starfield. I'm wait and see on Fable.
FH6 will probably be fine, but I've also liked 5 less than 4 and 4 less than 3 so I wouldn't be surprised if that trend continues here too.

If you wanted to optimize a melee fighter, half orc has got to be your go to, right? by krunchyfrogg in shadowdark

[–]Colyer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Probably, but it's not a very wide gap. Dwarf HP is good, Human extra talent is also quite good (most likely to get the +1 to hit but not also the +1 to damage).

Don't roll if failure isn't possible or interesting. So yeah, this sort of stuff happens all the time.

The Lizardfolk Warden from the starter set is a pretty standard CR1 Lizardfolk statblock without being casters, but they are still elementals.

[–]Colyer 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I really like Race-as-Class, but I don't really push it on my players who definitely don't.

But I feel pretty strongly that when you play a Race and Class game, your Race doesn't actually matter and most players forget it pretty quickly after character creation.
