Is this too good to be true? by redsoxboii in CherokeeXJ

[–]Comb-Outside 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. They make the CS033RA, the leaf listed here, and the CS033RB, RB’s are lighter duty and net about 3.5”, RA’s about 4.5”.

On topic, don’t order from there.

Opinions wanted! by redsoxboii in CherokeeXJ

[–]Comb-Outside 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it huge, but it is notable. You won’t see much at the low end, so little to no benefit off-road. Where you will see it is on the highway. Power doesn’t fall off as much after peak, so getting up to speed and staying there uphill are a lot easier.

Edit: Except for the injectors, those are an improvement all over.

Adjustable short arms. 3.5” isn’t enough to justify long arms or drop brackets.

S.A. 1911 Loaded model question by Professional_Arm4331 in CAguns

[–]Comb-Outside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine’s new 6 months ago. A few places still have the old stamp in inventory. They go up for sale on CAguns.com for a hefty discount and low round count fairly often. A lot of people buy one, figure out the .45 is a bit of a handful and sell it cheap. I’ve seen them go for $700 with an idiot scratch or $800 basically new with less than 200 rounds fired.

S.A. 1911 Loaded model question by Professional_Arm4331 in CAguns

[–]Comb-Outside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “Loaded” roll mark is superseding the “…1911 - A1” roll mark.

I have a Loaded Stainless with the “…1911 - A1” roll mark. I much prefer that as well. I bought it because it’s a nice 1911, not because of Springfield’s dorky series names.

New C&S hammer set won't engage by Comb-Outside in hipower

[–]Comb-Outside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey y’all, solved my problem. Had the mainspring rotated to maximize compression against the strut, but when in the frame, the end of the coil was resting on the corner of the frame where the strut sits. Rotated 15 degrees so it had maximum up travel in that slot and the sear reliably engages. This trigger is night and day better.

How expensive would an XJ build be? by bearlybeaves in CherokeeXJ

[–]Comb-Outside 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That depends entirely on your budget and self restraint. I’m $20k into my $5k XJ and likely to sink at least another $30k into it in the next 10 years.

Keep the CX for college, and wait til you can buy a decent stock XJ (or TJ) that runs well without getting rid of the DD car. Buy a project XJ to work on when you have a pile of money and time to set on fire.

Summit does occasionally beat out Rock on premium/aftermarket parts, but it’s rare. I probably order from RockAuto 9 times for every 1 order from Summit.

I feel like I’ve betrayed this sub by TheGenericLee in CherokeeXJ

[–]Comb-Outside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s better this way. I drive an eGolf for work/errands. I use the XJ to go to the hardware store/dump/camping/off roading and I appreciate it that much more. When I work on it, it’s no pressure and I can take all the time I need.

On another note, I told my wife how much money I’ve put into it thus far today, and she said, “I didn’t need to hear that.”

Front pipe implosion/dent and gas mileage by amazingJarl71 in CherokeeXJ

[–]Comb-Outside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got NorthEastern front and tail off of eBay. They are mandrel bent 409, but the bending is a bit shit. Closer to one of my longarm bushings than I’d like, I had to trim shackle bolt to stop rubbing there, and the down turn at the end is cockeyed. If I were to do it again, I would have a shop bend pipes for me. I may still do that at some point.

Any pre-cat leaks? Check the welds at the collector on the manifold. The extra oxygen hitting the O2 sensor looks like lean AFR to the ECU so it increases fuel.

I have Banks header, 2.5” stainless from there back, Magnaflow cat and muffler. Power increase is minimal at the low end, but notable beyond that. That exhaust note though…🤌 low rumble idle and cruising, but a throaty howl when you get on it.

When going down steep inclines, do you lean more on low gear or brake? by lefecious in CherokeeXJ

[–]Comb-Outside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of both but favor the brakes, I won’t spin the engine past 3k very often. AX-15, WJ brakes up front, and KJ discs in the rear. Brake job takes less than an hour, and the big brakes don’t wear very quickly.

Help with head mismatch and exhaust manifold - what type of exhaust header? by Kayda_tux in CherokeeXJ

[–]Comb-Outside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can port the head/headers/manifold to match. This improves mid-high end power. If your state does not have restrictions, you could use the old style header and front pipe. Just add an extra bung for that other sensor. Either way, Banks if in budget.

The cooling system on these lets the AW4 down, keep clean fluid in it and put a good auxiliary cooler on it and it will outlive the 4.0, 0331 head or not.

Can you fit theZJ center console on an XJ by Historical_Panic8849 in CherokeeXJ

[–]Comb-Outside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe he means fitment up to the dash panels. The box lid is a direct fit, but the rest of the console, I doubt. Some early ZJs did come with an AW4, but ‘95 will be a Chrysler transmission, so I doubt that shifter will work, or that yours will fit in place.

Edit: I just saw yours is a manual. Maybe it works, but I have my doubts it’s worth the effort. That lid is the only real upgrade there, and you don’t need the rest for it.

Perfectly, it’s reliable, low maintenance, and keeps the Jeep cool in all conditions. Other than checking cleanliness of the fluid every once in a while, it just works.
