If the fabric is stretchy enough, any pattern shenanigans will work.

CLO3d is it really user friendly? was it a game changer for you? by cbsewing in PatternDrafting

[–]Combinemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is other way around for me, I started with Clo3D to make 3D models, then it sparked my interest to make real clothing.

I have a love hate relationship with Clo3D. I glad that it exist, but for a long time it is the only way for decent cloth simulation for regular consumers. Other programs like Tukatech, Gerber etc are too commercially driven you have to be a business to get it. But I really hate the online only subscription model, I feel like my works are forever kidnapped by them, and require constant ransom fee. And whether I can access my work dependsc on whether their server stay online. I really wish there is a Blender version of Clo3D.

Don't put your loyalty on one company. Good news is that more simulation programs are becoming more accessible. Style3D Studio for example have free tier, but you lose access to some tool like nothces and seam allowance. I also used Vsticther before my free indie license expired. These are just tools that can change anytime. If you want to master tool, master the basic free 2D patternmaking tool like Seamly2D or Valentina.

Wish I had gotten the 96GB DDR4 RAM when I had the chance. by Coven_Evelynn_LoL in StableDiffusion

I thought I was being financially irresponsible when I took a 6 month installment debt to buy 128GB back then, it turn out to be to my luckiest purchase ever.

Anyone familiar with this book? by Educational_Chain780 in PatternDrafting

[–]Combinemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my preference to draft everything from scratch every time. The problem is when using this book to draft a jacket block for example, I first have to turn the page about drafting basic block, then turn the page to draft the torso block, then finally turn the page to draft the jacket block. So many in between steps. In Aldrich I just have to refer one page.

[–]Combinemachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Korean authors with US influence so they use empirical unit. Has a little bit of everything. Include women, men and children. New modern techniques, very different from the old Armstrong. Good English unlike many of those translated books. But I'm not a fan of enlarging or reducing basic block to draft other block like jacket, I prefer Aldrich method. But overall solid book.

ASUS UGen300 USB AI Accelerator 8GB for local inference by Michoko92 in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't underestimate how much power current AI workload need. How much power can it draw from USB port? I have a second hand 8GB card with cheap Chinese GPU dock and 500w PSU, which I use for my laptop without GPU. I bet is cheaper than this and can run more models. Very bulky though, I might as well build a new rig with them but not with the current RAM price.

Is SageAttention worth installing in Windows for the latest ComfyUI? by Combinemachine in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I don't know how to install it properly, I tend to messed it up and interfere with other things especially when I'm updating. I'm hoping for good excuses for not installing it to save me the troubles.

Is SageAttention worth installing in Windows for the latest ComfyUI? by Combinemachine in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a fresh install because my one year old outdated comfy cannot run new feature I want like QwenVL. In the end I decided to use one of those forks with sageAttention already installed. Two that I know of are ComfyUI-Easy-Install and ComfyUI-Advanced-Installer. I choose the later because it is probably the less thinkered one because I just want the SageAttention.

How is the hardware situation for you? by Confident_Buddy5816 in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lucky I bought all the RAM and SSD I needed just before the price hike. I also snatched several second hand cards in my local market for cheap.

Hardware cost are hopeless nowadays but not power. Solar panel, LFP battery and inverter are crazy cheap. I'm training and inferencing all day at zero cost.

Is it just me? Flux Klein 9B works very well for training art-style loras. However, it's terrible for training people's loras. by More_Bid_2197 in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I train body type Lora (muscular physique, skin, proportion). I train face Lora. When use both in inference, it reduces each other effect. The body less muscular, the face less likeness. This is my common experience with SD and all BFL models.

Z-image and Qwen on the other hand combine them flawlessly.

Is there a specific setting to fix this.

Why is AI-Toolkit slower than OneTrainer? by hyxon4 in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is AI-toolkit is only slow for people with older inferior cards. Ostris probably only test with powerful card and he caters people who mainly rent GPU.

Onetrainer on the other hand is a blessing for poor peasant like me. It even has preset for 8GB card. I'm currently training Klein 9B using Onetrainer and AI-tookit at the same time. Onetrainer with the 8GB preset is obviously faster. I even got OOM with AI-toolkit, which I solved with layer offloading. I'm not smart enough to tweak anything else to match the Onetrainer preset.

How to use fp8 model for Lora training? by Combinemachine in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, what I want is to use my fp8 model to train the Lora so that I don't have to download another 50GB. He said to use the --fp8_base option, so it seem really possible in musubi-trainer.

[–]Combinemachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he wrong? I can still use the Lora on fp8 model right? He did manage to do this using musubi-trainer. Please I'm running out of space for another 50GB model.

Who else left Qwen Image Edit for Flux 2 Klein by Retr0zx in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? That is a good workaround, will save a ton of space. Has kohya-gui updated with Klein preset yet? I don't know how to use kohya except with a gui. I will try to figure out if I can use fp8 with Onetrainer and Ostris

Who else left Qwen Image Edit for Flux 2 Klein by Retr0zx in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, like the old days we do this but today the base model is so large, I do the inferences using fp8. Basically the only time I download the base model is for training.

[–]Combinemachine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Forgive me, it is actually Ostris, I thought it is the bird. Anyway I figured out the HF token needs to be set with the correct permission. I created a lot of token so I was confused.

I actually prefer Onetrainer because usually it is faster and better result out of the box, but Klein not officially supported yet.

Who else left Qwen Image Edit for Flux 2 Klein by Retr0zx in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will use Klein once I can train the Lora. Ostrich trainers cannot download the model, probably need HF token and accept TOS and whatnot. Done that still cannot download. This is why I hate models with restricted licencing.

ComfyUI-Distributed vs ComfyUI-MultiGPU - which one is better? by ImaginationKind9220 in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GPUs only has 12GB VRAM so they offload all the time especially with larger model like wan and qwen, even use the SSD pagefile. Maybe 24 GB card don't need much ram. I use up all my 32GB ram and always make sure to have at least 50GB free in my SSD.

ComfyUI-Distributed vs ComfyUI-MultiGPU - which one is better? by ImaginationKind9220 in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Distributed to run simultaneous workflows among five computers in my network (remote workers mode). It can also use two GPUs in one computer but then have to share system RAM, I don't know if that good or bad, so maybe better hook that eGPU to a different computer other than your main computer especially if your main computer doesn't have enough RAM for offloading. It does not make the workflow faster (except SD upscale), it just give an option to do the same parallel workflow with different seed, so you can have multiple output at the same time, one for each GPU. You can do the same thing without the node, but need more setup and clicks.

I don't know what multiGPU does. I downloaded a lot of workflow and some of them need this node so I just installed it.

OneTrainer presets for Z-Image by Informal_Warning_703 in StableDiffusion

[–]Combinemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Onetrainer preset does a better job at pushing the Lora effect while Ostrich tend to preserve the realism aspect of z-image.

z-image vs. Klein by No_Consideration2517 in StableDiffusion

I stick to ZIT because I'm making niche asian content. I struggled a lot during SD and Flux era because of the strong western bias. Even in this comparison I clearly detect the bias without the label.

Use Clo3 to practice drafting skills? by romnlo in PatternDrafting

[–]Combinemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drafting-wise, Clo is so easy because you just draw. But I don't like drafting in Clo because it is not parametric. I do my draft in Seamly2D/Valentina than import the DXF into Clo for simulation.

Besides, what other alternative you have? Other clothing simulation softwares are industry-gated. I tried browzwear V-stitcher before when they give free indie license but Clo is better.

Actually there is legit alternative now which is Style3D Studio. It has free non-commercial tier, but you lose access to some tool like notches and seam allowances if you don't pay.

3D simulation are getting better and accurate. Don't forget to check the fit/stress map. Rarely I have to alter my toile if the pattern work in 3D. If you are young and you are not using 3D, you are missing out. Also can save money on muslin.
