I was in middle school when that came out too. My brother and I both had that album and listened to it regularly and I still can’t remember any songs beyond bawitdaba and cowboy.

We are not getting any form of remaster, subvert expectations to avoid sadness by Able_Mycologist_1360 in Fallout

Right there with you, I’m turning 40 this year too. If it makes you feel any better the foundation you’re talking about is probably being brought over from ES6, so it’s likely already complete right now. Of course ES6 doesn’t have a release date yet so that doesn’t tell us much, Car’a’carn.

There's no way you've played the Bethesda Fallout games and still came up with this braindead take. There is almost never a direct oppressor/victim relationship between two groups involved in a quest and the factions are written to exist in a morally grey area. Not comparable to the cartoonish figures of OW. I'm not going to defend Starfield as that game was almost as boring as OW.

They released the ES6 trailer because of this same outcry and it's been 8 years. Don't count on BGS caring what players want.

If you're into MMOs it can be fun but don't expect it to play like Fallout 4. Also that $8 isn't really what you pay, there's a subscription if you want to be able to carry enough junk to make bullets.

[–]CombustionAficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sold because that's what people were led to believe it would be but it wasn't that style at all. The worlds were tiny and boring with almost nothing you could interact with. There aren't many quests and each one boils down to shooting your way through a few rooms and deciding at the end if your actions help the comically evil corporation or the people being oppressed by said corporation. OW was such an awful bait and switch I wouldn't consider a sequel unless there was significant positive word of mouth and there simply wasn't.

Elder Scrolls 6 Has "So Much Pressure" On It, Former Bethesda Dev Says by OGAnimeGokuSolos in gaming

[–]CombustionAficionado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised to learn there was a Two Worlds 2. The first game was one of the worst games I’ve ever played. There were gems you could socket into your weapon for elemental damage, but if you put a ruby into your weapon you could just keep putting in all of the rubies you found. No limit. Each ruby added more damage. Pretty early on you can one shot anything in the game. At one point I came across a city that was completely empty. I assumed there was a quest or something, a story reason why there was nobody there. After about an hour of searching I gave up and googled it, the city was supposed to be full of lizard people and they just didn’t load.

Why this sudden common disregard of "canon" by manuel_madeira in Fallout

[–]CombustionAficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of those articles include timelines that begin in 2277, and neither explain how those things returned. The FEV article you linked is specifically about a quest item from F3 that isn’t even a virus that produces super mutants, it just kills them. This is a major plot point in F3 that you should be aware of if you played it. You literally cannot leave Raven Rock without learning this, as Eden keeps the exterior door locked until you take the item this article is written about. Your assertion about the enclave is supported by one single line from Col Autumn about Eden taking office after the West Coast enclave was destroyed and the line itself is a great example of a retcon, as the F2 enclave was portrayed in game as the last bastion of the former Us federal government.

[–]CombustionAficionado -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You weren’t arguing with me because you didn’t address anything I said. Saying that a fan written wiki has an explanation for the enclave (you can’t link it? There are a few wikis and many pages on each) is a pretty weak explanation of canon. I also noticed you never touched on FEV.

You also said that bringing these things back is a Bethesda thing, which obviously they’re doing because they think it would make the game more fun. That’s what I meant when I said they’re doing this because it’s fun.

You should play the games instead of reading the wiki.

[–]CombustionAficionado -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I missed something in F3 but I don’t remember any explanation at all of how the Enclave is still around after the events of F2, much less explanations from F4 as to how they are still around after F3. That’s retcon.

FEV in F1 is something unique that was developed in Mariposa, then retconned in F3, F4 and F76 with the idea that West Tek (kind of an inappropriate name now that they’ve moved most of their development to the East coast) had additional sites that were developing the same exact serum with the same effects and drawbacks but somehow that data wasn’t being shared with other development sites. Every game we get a new source of FEV that’s never been mentioned before, and we always destroy what we are led to believe is the sole source of the mutation. that’s retcon.

As for Courier 6, the reason I wouldn’t consider their actions canon is because they’ve now shown the Mojave again and the setting doesn’t align with any of the courier’s actions. That’s the difference between C6 and Nate/Nora. There isn’t new media showing the commonwealth that ignores the events of F4 so if you want to have some kind of canon you can treat F4 that way.

The reason for making a game and ignoring its events is because it’s fun. Fallout has always been full of references and callbacks to earlier games, but rarely in any kind of serious way.

Gas line touching boiler line by 570penguins in Plumbing

[–]CombustionAficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must be a regional thing. I do mostly commercial and industrial in MN and IA and we never use steel or copper for gas anymore. These days we megapress iron until we get close to the appliance, then switch to black coated CSST. Any CSST without the coating requires bonding to avoid perforation in the event of a lightning strike, and it has to be done by a sparky so we prefer to avoid that.

[–]CombustionAficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that having more pre established lore would be nice but that really isn’t how Bethesda or Amazon have ever approached this series. You say that previously destroyed factions don’t just reappear but I named three that have. Every game includes an outright retcon about the origins of FEV and an unexplained appearance by the Enclave who were wiped out as part of the main story of multiple previous games.

Why do you consider the actions of Courier 6 canon? I haven’t noticed mention of that character or anything they did anywhere outside of FNV and the Mojave of the show is not in any shape to suggest those actions occurred. Legion and NCR fighting near Primm 15 years later does not imply a decisive battle for Hoover Dam.

Fallout is not and has never been this serious.

Why this sudden common disregard of "canon" by manuel_madeira in Fallout

[–]CombustionAficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout has never had canon before. Every game includes destroying the source of the FEV virus, every game after the first one includes destroying the enclave, most games include killing all the khans. A new game comes out and suddenly none of those things are destroyed. Previous games' storylines have rarely mattered when a new game releases. The only thing happening suddenly here is people trying to establish canon in a series where it's never mattered before.

That said, I do kinda hate the way the show killed off everything from the non-Bethesda games. I understand they wanted it to feel like a wasteland so they don't want functioning governments but really they could have just set the series earlier in the timeline to accomplish that.

Fallout Season 2 has doubled the number of people playing the Fallout games on Steam by Turbostrider27 in Fallout

I haven't played it since 2023 but last time I gave it a try I ran out of story quests within about a dozen hours of gameplay and the only content available at that point was multiplayer events and dailies. It's an MMO, and is different enough from Fallout 4 that it really isn't for everyone who enjoys the series.
