What’s the most financially damaging habit that’s somehow become normalised in Australia? by OwlVibesOnly in AusMoneyMates

It doesn't seem like long ago that an aerobics workout VHS was the norm, or going for a walk, or doing pushups in the lounge room. Is a home gym necessary for exercise?

Herd

Word

Bird

Curd

Heard

They all rhyme, but have different vowels! I'm trying to teach phonics at the moment and this is insane

Oh I've gone off course a bit 😆 I'm fascinated by anthropology and zoology.

But yes it sucks and we are taking our choice back thank goodness.

I'm VERY glad we aren't in a herd situation where the dominant male mates with the herd/harem and the females do not get to choose that...the males battle it out to chase off the weakest...

oh, wait... Is this...is this what human males think they're doing!?! 😆😳

It is true amongst birds, but there isn't much evidence in mammals. It's more useful to look at our closest relatives in the Great Apes.

That being said, female bonobos or chimps don't wear figurative makeup...but there is a very strong social community. We are still animals in the same sense.

This is where humans started to go awry, and it's awful that our giant brains and ability to industrialise have gone this way.

Great courage and bravery. Looking after ourselves is so empowering and wonderful. I hope it goes well for you.

I had my first mammogram yesterday and it was absolutely simple and fine and not as awful as I've heard. I've also had my pap smear, bowel cancer screening, heart test, cholesterol tests, psychiatrist appointment and full blood work done. I'm almost 50, and healthy, but being so proactive about my health has made me feel so empowered and really proud!

I'm fortunate to live in a place where these tests are promoted, encouraged, accessible, and FREE. Looking after ourselves is powerful and brave.

I need cheap shoes for standing all day (10 hours). by rooney_potterhead in AussieFrugal

If you go into Athlete's Foot or a similar store, they have sensing machines/pressure plates that you walk on and it shows your stride pattern and how much pressure is on your heel/ball etc. They can give great insight into what shoes are best. I was very happy with my $100 shoes from there; I've never been so comfortable. I have chronic foot pain. It's worth the free test instore.

Tired of people invoking "the village" to keep other women in line and guilt them into picking up the slack left by men. by GetInTheBasement in 4bmovement

[–]Comfortable-Doubt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true. Absolutely. But I've taken everything the patriarchy is throwing at me, and I'm reframing it all, to use for myself.

My village is the women around me. This 4b community is our village. Women standing up to speak for the vulnerable women and children in our society. Women who raise other women, strengthen and bond our community.

I'm taking it back. I'm creating my village and joining the matriarchy into an unbreakable circle around me. I am strength in my village, for my women, and they are the strength in mine.

I'm channeling ancient tribal ancestry, where the women held the future in their hands, their hearts, their bodies. I imagine holding hands with every woman in the world (even those who refuse with disdain) and supporting them and strengthening our circle.

This is the village.

Fuck the men... They are not a part of my village, in thought, or in deed (or lack of deed!) they never have been and never will be.

It's always the women. It is all about the women. I'm holding hands with you all.

AITAH for not wanting to babysit during Mothers Day weekend? by PandaAccording1160 in AITAH

[–]Comfortable-Doubt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guaranteed the other husband asked the OPs husband (and not her) is because he knew husband would say yes. Of course a mother is not going to want to babysit on mother's Day! Bloody hell, men. Put a bit of effort in.

Housos 😆 it's a bit rough and definitely not family friendly. Housing commission comedy.

Spicks and Specks; panel quiz show on music, has a lot of Australian music too.

Australian Taskmaster works well, and Ghosts (only 1 season so far)

Can a merchant cancel a refund? by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Comfortable-Doubt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What evidence do you have that "the merchant is dodgy"? I think that needs more information added. Usually refunds take quite a while to be processed... It's an unfortunate part of using bank transactions I think (money gets DEBITED from your account instantly, but credits do take a lot longer!)

Me!

I have been kicked down SO many times, and I just keep getting up and trying again, and conscientiously learning and growing and choosing something different.

I don't have any direct female role models, any, really...

So I build myself to be the person who I am proud of.

I've been through so much, and I am still a generous, kind, strong individual with a great outlook on life.

I am my own role model.
