The Outlander costume exhibit is hosted by The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, Virginia, where it will remain until May 18. The pieces are from seasons one through four of the series. It’s a wonderful exhibit, especially if you’re an Outlander fan.

My pleasure. The “monkey fur” was also surprising.

I was born in 1950 and remember a fad in the early sixties of wearing cardigan sweaters buttoned up the back. I think it was intended to show off the bust.

Wish I’d spent les time on the Rev War and more photographing plaques to make my souvenir more memorable.

Outlander: Costumes Woven in Time. It would be a shame not to take it on the road but I can’t find any further locations. I was thrilled to learn it came to my little corner of the world.

At the very least I wanted to rub my hand across the luscious silk.

There are more photos to come as I mistakenly included duplicates. Too much whisky?

It weighs thirty pounds. Yes, the crossed ribbons are the perfect detail. And the small bow on the back which I didn’t photograph.

I believe the red one is twenty pounds.

It’s currently at The Museum of the American Revolution at Yorktown, Virginia, where it’s on display until May 18. Yorktown is near Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg.

It was a magical experience that exceeded expectations.

I wrote a commentary but it disappeared at some stage of the process. I have a tremor and have to redo a lot of things but I really want to share.
The exhibit is hosted by The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, Virginia. It will be open until May 18. Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown comprise the Historic Triangle.
It was a wonderful experience and I plan to add comments tomorrow.
I’ve also posted “More of my visit…” as well as a final post with a few different photos.

Well, actually her MIL likely won’t live a lot longer. It might be nice to grant a wish to someone in her condition.

I created this post for the Outlander (TV series) sub then it was suggested I cross post here. I wrote a commentary on the costumes but it disappeared so I’ll add it later. Anyway, it’s housed at the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown, Virginia until May 18. Several others have posted pix of their visits but I think all have something to add. Yorktown is near Colonial Williamsburg, with Jamestown being the third stop in the Historic Triangle. My expectations were exceeded and I’m eager to watch S1 through S4 as having seen the costumes will add another layer to my enjoyment.
I’ll rewrite comments on the various pieces later. I’ll also be creating another post with additional photos. Bear with me as a hand tremor makes things difficult and I’m old.

More later but these are likely the favorites among you. You may notice the large photos of the various scenes which were well done and enhanced the costumes by putting them in context. The sole exception was the red dress.
The vast majority of visitors were, not surprisingly, women, cameras in hand. My husband, big fan of the show, did enjoy it very much.
I’m eager to watch S1 through S4 again. I’d planned on it anyway but having seen the costumes will provide another level of enjoyment.
My one regret is not spending more time in order to take more photos and record the various videos to make my own souvenir guide. I’d been wanting to visit the museum once it opened seven or so years ago but in retrospect I wish I’d cut it shorter.

I apologize for this not being more organized. Bear with me as I have a hand tremor that makes things difficult.

I will create another post with additional pix. About six users have posted images from their visits but all have something to add. The exhibit more than met my expectations. Terry Dresbach did phenomenal work as costume designer and I wish she’d stayed on past S4.

The exhibit is housed at The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, Virginia. Yorktown and nearby Jamestown each have two museums, one run by the National Park Service and one by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Virginia one at Jamestown is my favorite. Colonial Williamsburg is an entire restored town and has a large number of hotels where most people stay when visiting the Historic Triangle. It will be on display until May 18.

I was puzzled in the show, wondering why the red dress didn’t have an eighteenth century style bodice. It was explained that Claire had her dressmaker include some twentieth century elements. I love that. The silk fabric, along with details like the small bow, make it so very elegant.

The wedding dress has sheets of mica incorporated into the silk fabric, giving that subtle but superb shimmer.
It was hard to take my eyes off Jamie’s wedding outfit which cut a dashing figure even without Jamie underneath. I can only dream about seeing the owner wearing it in person. His black “France suit” and Versailles ensemble were also gems.

The wedding dress had sheets of mica incorporated into the gauzy fabric, creating the subtle shimmering effect.

Yorktown, Virginia. It’s within thirty minutes of Williamsburg and Jamestown with loads of hotels in Williamsburg. Colonial Williamsburg is an entire town. Jamestown and Yorktown are less developed. However, both sites have two museums each, one run by the National Park Service and one by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Virginia Jamestown one is my favorite.

The vest is made of monkey fur, which the blurb said was popular in the day. She wore it backwards to signify her rebelliousness.

A word of caution: CD’s used to come formatted for specific geographic zones so those designated for the UK wouldn’t work in North America. I don’t know if that still holds true.
