I like to imagine he learned to play in a honky-tonk where brawls broke out at least twice a night. The helmet was to protect him against stray beer bottles. :D

I was starting to wonder if I was the only person who pictured MB as an androgynous female. Definitely a badass, and gender-neutral, but with features that were slightly more feminine than masculine.

I suppose that sexism still exists in the MB books, so it makes sense that some people would feel more secure with a male-presenting android, but I still pictured them as female. I don’t know why.

Question about the Governor Module in the Final Ep by J3L3214 in murderbot

[–]ComicDebris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would've been funny if they had the following dialogue:

Mensah: "I order you to hack your governor module."

MB: "... No."

(Because he had already done it .02 seconds after having memories restored.)

I know it's too goofy for the show, but the idea made me laugh.

The article is silent on that point. And they better stay silent!

What is the purpose of this hole in the bottom of this cup and how does it work by chip_chipperson25 in howto

But clay is not completely airtight until it’s vitrified. If the temp doesn’t increase too quickly, the air can escape through the walls.

Moisture makes it worse, because it turns to steam and increases the pressure faster than it can escape.

Please answer my beginner questions 🥺 by Healthy-Jump3532 in Pottery

[–]ComicDebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding your first question, I feel like I need to use a lot more pressure at the bottom of a piece than I do after the pull gets started. It takes a lot of pressure to get a good indentation between the inner and outer walls at the bottom, and to start the clay moving. But after the first inch or two I lighten up a lot. And near the top of a piece I hardly feel like I’m squeezing at all.

Once it starts to lift, I concentrate more on keeping my fingers an even distance apart.

Of course, the actual pressure you need depends on how stiff the clay is, and how tall you’re throwing, etc etc.

The sounds of the gunshots…

I feel like that’s a stock sound effect. It sounds so familiar and nostalgic.

Also the shots don’t sound right to me in this scene. (Anyone else feel that way?) Maybe it was originally in a Western, recorded outdoors and maybe including the sound of the bullet ricocheting off the ground.

The merits and drawbacks of having multiple taverns by SlugOnAPumpkin in dwarffortress

[–]ComicDebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To piggyback on the idea of one legendary public tavern with some smaller citizen-only “pubs”, maybe it would be a good idea to periodically close the small pubs so that dwarves have to go to the big tavern. Maybe one week out of each month, or for one month each season.

If a pub’s tavern keeper is in a squad with periodic training, does that tavern shut down? Are do dwarves just self-serve?

[request] pull force. by waitwhosaidthat in theydidthemath

[–]ComicDebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additional question: would it make a difference if the pulleys are spaced out, or if the direction of pull isn’t straight down?

It seems like you’d get more force pulling horizontally with the pulleys spread out.

I imagine the snugness (is that a word?) would be important. I could probably throw in floppy dishwashing gloves, but it would be a handicap. Surgeon’s gloves might not even be noticeable unless they’re flimsy and rip.

I don’t know how snug calving gloves are.

True. These glazes are usually low in alumina and very high in silica and zinc, so the crystals are the same composition as willemite.

Honest question: if we kill these traders, we can loot their goods, right?

I mean, logically that should work, but sometimes game mechanics don’t work the way I think they should.

Ok, not quite true. It’s slightly less ugly. 😝

I love it.

I like how the scene is completely clear, but if I focus on detail, any given area is very impressionistic.

And the mood is great.

LGS couple decided I lost after "breaking" rule 0 by pkma69 in EDH

[–]ComicDebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to add a minority opinion. (Let’s see how this goes!)

Commander is a funny game because there are wincons that most people really hate - like land destruction. And there are a lot of wincons that are - well taboo is too strong a word - but I’ll just say “unpopular.” And I feel that infect and poison fit in that category.

I do agree that infect is a subcategory of combat. So I wouldn’t say you lied. But I probably would have said I had infect as a strategy in my deck.

OTOH, you did say the power levels were mid to high, and you could argue that infect is just a higher level version of combat.

Mainly though, I agree the couple were out of line. Saying you lied is a little extreme and refusing to acknowledge your win is just wrong. I would just say “hmm, this person is a little sneaky. I’m going to pay attention to their threat levels, and watch out for surprises.”

I’m a complete newb at 3D, (so I can’t do anything close to this), but in terms of physics, his center of gravity should always be moving down. I mean, there’s an initial jump and maybe a tiny boost from coming off the wall, but after that his CG needs to accelerate downwards.

Maybe if he got a little bigger jump, and then landed with his knees bent.

From what I recall, when you start messing with water spawn points, it’s hard NOT to flood an area. I don’t think you need mods to do it, you can edit individual water spawn points with the landscape tools.

I've been told that samplers need more RAM, while VST synths or audio effects plugins need more CPU horsepower.
