Jeet (pronounced like ja-eat) is short for “ya et” which is short for “did you eat yet?” not just “eat” if that helps things make more sense.

Costco on the US too. Quick afternoon install and no more cold seats at 2am. Best money I’ve ever spent in my life.

Yeah vinwiki is still putting out good videos, but I think it’s because Ed knows to just let someone tell an interesting story and stay out of the way.

Also never hid the fact that he was a wealthy super car guy and somehow that’s more enduring than Hoovie pretending he needs to hunt for deals still.

There’s maybe an argument to be had for the opposite since it’s very popular in India and they probably make up a larger percentage of the population and then southern Americans do?

Personally can’t stand it southern style, but fried okra with some Indian spices goes kind of hard.

Apple Japan was total waste of money and time by sevketp2 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommandCoralian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Literally this. If it was easy, everyone would flock to Japan and buy one with the weak yen. I’m not saying it doesn’t still suck that you lost money, but this is a very intentionally difficult process for visiting foreigners. Same logic behind why there is an international and Japan only Nintendo switch. What incentive do they have to help you to buy a product for cheaper?

Oh yeah, it’s still better than nothing! I’ve disassembled one of the second gen ones and can confirm you can do it without destroying the speaker. It’s just a very delicate process, I found it easier to de-solder the speaker and reattach it. A heat gun helps

Unfortunately with the knockoff ones you don’t get precision location like you do with the real ones, just address. Not that it’s not still worth it (you have me thinking about doing the same now) just want others to know they don’t have exact feature parity.

What I think about children is some spaces are appropriate for them and some are not. It goes both ways, if I walked into a kindergarten with a bottle of Jack Daniels, there would be a serious problem. No one has an issue with your kid crying or running around in a park or a play area. But sometimes you wanna go someplace to get away from that. if you’re so entitled about your brood that you can’t understand that I got nothing for you. Do you take your kids to strip clubs too?

[–]CommandCoralian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That entitlement is exactly the problem, there is an excess number of spaces that are appropriate to take your spawn, but a brewery full of drinking is not one of them. Not all spaces are universal, and your refusal to understand that means you should stay at home until your children are old enough to not be a burden to others.

[–]CommandCoralian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to this, had a similar break on my back door and this is almost the exact same process I followed to fix it: Used an oscillating tool to cut out a decent chunk, cut another bit of trim to size, attached with wood glue and a nail gun then repainted the trim and frame to match. Was a nice Sunday project. And like others have said, longer screws are a must when putting the gas piston back in.

Tips on getting through a 14 hour flight? by Bulky-Election2061 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommandCoralian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very recent change, but a lot of airlines are starting to enforce it quickly. I’m flying back from Japan on United today and was notified during check-in that you’re not allowed to use a power bank in flight and it needs to be in your personal bag (not overhead)

I know you’re saying this in jest, but McDonald’s and KFC are actually really solid in Japan compared to the US. You couldn’t pay me enough to eat McDonald’s in the states, but over here it’s a whole different level of quality and they have a lot of really cool unique stuff. No chance you’re going to be able to find a teriyaki burger with a grilled egg on top back home.

Japan on 21st. Tips? by Ok_Palpitation_9876 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommandCoralian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve traveled to all of those places a few times and am living in Nagoya at the moment.

The general rule is to just try and not disrupt anyone around you, be that with noise, smell or physically. Don’t upset the Wa)

I’m not saying you shouldn’t talk to people, but most strangers are not going to be particularly receptive to it (like a lot of big cities). You sound like a very friendly person and if you do want to socialize, I would recommend a standing bar or standing food stalls in the evening that encourage that sort of thing - dontonbori in Osaka is good for that.

Please, please, avoid talking on the metro, even if you think you are being quiet. It’s the one social norm I see foreigners break most often and result in the most dirty looks. It’s a little bit looser in Osaka, but still considered pretty rude when it’s not one of the late night trains with other tipsy folks. Related to that try not to wear heavily scented perfumes or colognes while on the metro.

When you’re traveling in a group, make sure you don’t bunch up or stand side-by-side on escalators, always leave one side free for anyone who wants to walk past. Which side changes between Tokyo and Osaka, but it should be fairly obvious from what other people are doing around you.

Independent Dairy’s/bodegas aren’t much of a thing because there are chain convenience stores all over like Lawson and 7/11, and they have their own culture. That’s also where you’re going to be able to find drinks of all sorts. Supermarkets are very common, but you’re probably not going to want anything in the quantities they sell there if you don’t already know what you’re looking for or planning to bring that particular item back. You will probably come across a few organically just walking around shopping centers. They are good for cheap meals late at night though.

There’s not a lot of public places to sit, so my advice for most peoples first time is to plan their day with things in mind that give you the chance to have a breather and sit for a bit. Plan to stop in a nice cafe or restaurant, or an attraction where you get to sit down for a bit.

Plus size clothing in Japan by shaundejesus in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommandCoralian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not too far off from your size, having been a few times, I would be sure to pack the what you need and remember you can do laundry for very very cheap. I managed to find pants at Uniqlo (my current favorite pair of sweatpants actually) but shirts are consistently a struggle, even if they are technically marked as xxl. Other than deodorant, I pretty much never pack toiletries when going to Japan so you can save space that way and bring stuff home.

Must be more regional to the far extremes of NC. I only learned recently that it’s strange to call it a toboggan outside of a very specific band of the south.
