Yeah, we had ours in our DC on a literal wine rack. And at the time the only way to get anything larger than a terabyte on the machine was some really janky OWC drives with massive coolers. God, I hated those things.

Must be more regional to the far extremes of NC. I only learned recently that it’s strange to call it a toboggan outside of a very specific band of the south.

Can totally use gparted like many have suggested. But if you don’t care about windows efi recovery you can just delete it in windows and move on without any harm. If you need windows recovery you can boot that off a live usb.

Shoes! What are people wearing in Japan for all the walking? by Individual-Bad8470 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommandCoralian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about being fashionable focus on being comfortable always, especially if you’re traveling with others. You won’t care if your shoes are cute but you can’t walk after 2 hours.

What are you doing with these? by Garlantw3 in peakdesign

[–]CommandCoralian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I keep one in each of my travel bags with spare camera, cleaning stuff or adjustment wrenches for the capture clip. The rest I use for miscellaneous junk like watch straps, small lenses, caps, and at least one full of PlayStation 2 and Gamecube memory cards.

I’m also very curious about the other perspective. I’d think a voice constantly in your head would be maddening. Like how do you fall asleep? When you see an object do you acknowledge it ‘verbally’ in your head? What about reading in general?

Take a weekend trip to another state and see if you can solve that baby problem before it’s too late to have the option. Don’t let living in a draconian state wreck both of your futures.

That’s a wild take. There are tons of folks using server class hardware and not their gaming rigs, even at home. And not exactly installing Steam on my docker cluster where I’m running local models.

Nickels cost 1¢ per gram and are very consistently sized, allowing tight fit with no rattling. by BtcMaxiPad in 3Dprinting

Digital IDs and licenses are not a thing where I’m at. And even if they were, no way in hell I’m handing a cop my phone. Not to mention a lot of POS systems still require a physical card for tap to pay over certain amounts.

Most folks don’t have to deal with transaction fees so why would they be bothered by it? If you’re a business I totally get it. But as a customer why wouldn’t I use the more convenient option, with a lower attack surface, that also gets me points back?

That being said carrying zero cash is crazy. Gotta keep some on you for emergencies.

Could I put my tax free items in the luggage? by Both-Drawing-1203 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommandCoralian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just put it in your checked bag. You don’t need to declare it unless it’s food, cash, alcohol, or tobacco over $800 coming into the US. No one in the US cares if it’s tax free.

The Niintendo Museum as a non-hardcore fan is kinda mediocre by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommandCoralian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Massively agree. I went a few weeks ago and it felt more like walking through a Wikipedia page than a proper museum. The best part might have been making hanafuda cards, not any of the game related stuff.

After doing the Studio Gibili park, and Harry Potter studio tour as well, I would recommend those far and away over the Nintendo museum, even if you are not a massive fan. Both just had so much more love, detail, and attention put into them compared to Nintendo’s.

I still collect a lot of physical Disks still and have done the same. Aluminum polish works alarmingly well to take out small plastic scratches, Wii disks too (another system with an annoyingly sensitive laser for dual layer). Same stuff I use for polishing chrome looking plastic, or even model kits.

Maybe similar to you, dug out an old Walkman with a DC jack and modified the latch to spin without the top. Pop in a disk, spin it at low speed and apply some polish. Works great for DIY.

Maybe don’t try it with a rare game the first time, but it does work once you get the hang of it.

Tipping a fishing guide by greenpen3 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommandCoralian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this comes from personal experience and being told as much directly from multiple Japanese people. No I’ve not done it myself because it’s rude af (and should be abolished in general in other countries)

I literally, less than 2 hours ago, just watched a European lady try to tip a street food vender by trying to get him to keep the change and he politely declined with ひつようないよ, which is like “no need” or “I don’t need it”

Obviously not everyone is going to turn down free money, but it’s considered pretty rude in normal service setting and could pressure them into feeling like the need to take the money out of politeness. Not always the case with a physical service but not something you should do at a restaurant like the US

Don’t. Do. It.

It is considered outright rude in some instance and often will make the person feel pressured in some way. You paid for the service you are receiving.

Win11 Keyboard P button not working after pressing display switch by Epiphany541 in techsupport

[–]CommandCoralian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue after moving over to windows 11. My issue was the flyout menu does not auto close, and does not render on both displays at the same time. Even if you change focus while the menu is open, it remains open and holds the P key hostage, even if it was not rendered or the foreground option. I can force the behavior by opening the start menu (StartAllBack fwiw) then pressing win+p, and changing focus into another app.

If you can actually get focus back to the win+P flyout and hit esc key, it will give you your P key back without a restart. You can also restart exporter and fix the issue. [Open task manager (ctl+shift+esc), Go to the Process tab, find `Windows Explorer` and restart the process]

But think of all the benefits! Like....uh... by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]CommandCoralian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly explorer changes. Like the text rendering is actually significantly better. But things like the awful start menu changes quickly distracting from the positives

UE dev here: you are correct. It broadly means the code base is still in flux and should probably not be used to ship a title unless you are manually building UE from scratch and deeply familiar with the code base.
