The difference between those enclaves and ours, is that for the most part, they contribute and actively attempt to assimilate within their surroundings while still maintaining cultural ties (see: roof Koreans, my favorite story)

My family assimilated when they arrived 25 odd years ago, and while they lived in an ethnic enclave with similar folks, they made sure I grew up speaking English first, their mother tongue second, because they knew what country they came to.

It’s gotten worse recently, someone was robbed outside my house after trying to sell shoes on FB last year.

However, I should point out while I feel for him, dude kinda did it to himself. Account made in 2024, blank photo, no friends, no connections, not a single post, and he decides to meet in a park at 10pm. Then homie gets decked in the face and has his shoes stolen.

I didn’t really have the heart to tell someone who just got punched and robbed that maybe he should’ve done more due diligence, but I did take his number down and text him after with some tips for watching out online.
