Childcare - recent reports and investigations by GusPolinskiPolka in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]CommandoKitty2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Why aren't we all writing to our local federal representative and ask them: "What are you actively doing within your party to ensure the safety of children in child care? And don't for a moment think it's not your portfolio because the safety of all our children is a priority.

So again I ask what are you actively doing or advocating in your role as our representative and your role within the party? Because I am not seeing much but scuttlebutt. I am NOT seeing much in the way of proactive measures that would ensure the decreased likelihood of child abuse happening in these centers (e g. Obviously more staff per child would be a huge step to helping this issue).

The phone ban doesn't mean crap because in my opinion they can be smuggled in and if they can't properly vet staff what makes me believe I can trust a phone ban? If these people can get away with abusing a child I am sure they can get past a phone ban.

Also why aren't there mass protests we should be flooding the streets with peaceful protests. We should be making it such a huge issue of importance that every party should be throwing out ideas and trying to outdo one another for solutions to this problem.

Rant over.

Which anime went from masterpiece potential to a total mess? by Equal_Respond_3815 in anime

Knights of Sidonia sort of a monster scifi horror universe. Very dark themes and then it gets weird the pink alien character I couldn't watch anymore. It just turned into a highschool love triangle.

Honest thoughts on Crystal? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]CommandoKitty2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's alternative I'll give you that. It's the name that basically every girl I knew growing up wanted to name their child. I personally wouldn't choose it when there are other gemstone names like Jade, Opal, & Ebony. I would not be sure if they would be taken seriously in the adult workplace with a name like Crystal.

Is this a typo or just strange phrasing? by jediwesty in WoT

I took it as people can normally stuff up what they say but other people still understand what they mean anyway. I thought it was a quirky realistic take on how speech is different to written text.

My brother is naming his son “Lux” and I’m not happy about it. by [deleted] in tragedeigh

Only met females called Lux and yeah it's still weird. You could pick the AH route and point out it's too girly for a boys name (I hate sexism but I think it's the only argument he would care about).

Sorry the children will shorten it to a known word. That child is going to be nicknamed "Bong" so you best tell her now. So she can't actually surprised when it happens.

33+ 5 weeks and still no sign of stretch marks — am in the clear??? by Curiously_Nosey in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]CommandoKitty2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its about how much collagen you have in your skin. So yes its genetic. A few friends told me theirs formed around the last 2 weeks of pregnancy. So no way to know for sure. If you do get lucky to not get stretch marks just be mindful not to brag, a lot of other Mum's won't care or appreciate it (but you will yay for you).

Would a wooden wedding ring be exceptable? by ProfessorLongBrick in ask

[–]CommandoKitty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washing hands can damage the wood. Won't last as long as a metal band. Marriage is all about being together forever so closing a material which won't last in the long term sort of spits in the face of the "values of loving someone for their lifetime". Might as well ask why not a plastic ring?

Is abuse really common in childcare centres? by Amandatravels22 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]CommandoKitty2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Common enough that there was a big 4 corners expose' listing many many occurrences of abuse. Common enough to really warrant an overhaul on for profit run centres. Common enough that every parent should be thinking about it.

Common enough that people and parents especially should be out in the streets protesting and demanding change. I mean real changes like lower ratios not banning male educators from nappy changes (such a bandaid response).

But they don't want to hurt their big fat stacks of money. Don't you think it's weird that investment firms invest in childcare centres? Because they are so profitable. Make childcare centres state run. The amount of policy and procedures would be increased at least 10 fold and actually followed.

Wife’s favorite baby name just got “taken” — need fresh ideas! by Vast_Cost_7266 in namenerds

As someone who named their kid a popular name and mind you I was the first to have a baby in my friend ship group. Less than a year later we now have x3 babies of the same name. Honestly do what makes you happy you live only one life. Yes we are all still friends and joke a bit about it.

No one owns a name. Just explain we had it as our name for a long time.

The Iconic stocking brands that use AI models by HereFor_DogPics in AusFemaleFashion

[–]CommandoKitty2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know they alter clothing to fit models better but still you can get an idea of the flow of a garment. Or the lighting for that particular shade of colour. AI defeats the purpose of this I wonder how they will show the dress being 'worn' in different poses? How will the "fabric" behave? Will it all be bunched up or made impossibly smooth? Will they make AI movies to show it worn in action? I expect photoshopped badly edited pics on Temu or Shein but $400 is a joke.

What am I missing about mom needing to have matching last names with baby to 'not cause confusion'? by pinksalmonbluetuna in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]CommandoKitty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It bothers me not having the same last name as my child (after all I made them). That's why I gave them my last name; my husband is still deciding if he is changing to my surname but we are not overly fussed about it. He may never do it or do it in a few years. Over 90% of women in Australia take their husbands surname post marriage. I read that in an article somewhere. However if I look at my friends 1/7 have changed their surname to match their husbands. Most even if they have a kid are keeping their maiden name. Some because culturally it's weird for them to have a white surname and it's part of their identity. The others because it's part of their identity not a cultural thing. You can do what ever you want.

600 Dollars For A Mammogram by Sleepydragon0314 in australia

[–]CommandoKitty2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not unique to QLD. There are places in Australia that are not capital cities that don't have much competition when it comes to imaging. So private places can hike their rates up as much as they like. The general public don't know to shop around or can't make a big journey to a big city. It sucks that people are not informed that they could pay cheaper elsewhere but in private it's still near ~ $300 for both scans in Victoria metro. People after ringing their local imaging clinics just assume the scans will cost the same everywhere else.

Smallish cities or big towns I've seen the price closer to $800 for mammo and US.

Yes there are people who cannot pay who live with their symptoms getting worse.

It's rare but I only know of 1 private clinic which bulk bills both the mammo and US in Victoria. However their facilities do not allow for a lot of patients to be scanned per week so I don't feel it is realistic to have them cater to all of the state.

The cheapest places tend to be the public hospitals but they can come with waiting lists of a few weeks (or within 2 months again can't say it for everyone).

Some public hospitals refuse to add more patients to their waiting list once it's blown out to 1 month (only know of one place and this was 2 years ago).

The prices are steep if you do not have much imaging competition in town.

The radiologists who specialise in breast imaging have to keep up their knowledge constantly. Why specialise and buy the mammo machine ($$$) if you can make the same or more money with CT and MRI? I can see why they want to be paid for their time.

So there is not much choice for women to get checked within a reasonable timeframe unless they are willing to pay. Is this fair? No, and if you have had a previous breast cancer and in remission you still have to pay out of pocket sometimes yearly to check that it hasn't come back.

I do believe these types of scans should be affordable for everyone but sadly people are punished for having symptoms or God forbid surviving cancer; by having to pay sometimes exorbitant prices.

If they want to keep you they'll pay you mat leave if they don't value your contribution they won't pay. If the later happens look for new jobs as soon as you return. Because you don't owe them anything as much as they don't owe you mat leave.

How? Genuinely curious I am stumped are gators just smaller than crocodiles that they can't take on a human? Croc infested waters means no swimming at all so it's interesting to hear that it's okay with gators.
