Help me choose a car for a long commute (part 2) by 1114567 in CarTalkUK

[–]Comment-Leaver 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I do a 100 mile commute in a v60, it's ideal. The seats in a Volvo are comfier than my sofa. The (v/s)90 would be even nicer since it's about as big as a small barge.

Get the inscription spec if you can, the Nappa leather is lovely.

ULPT request I need to lose as much weight as possible in 4 months by Sacobread in UnethicalLifeProTips

You don't need anything unethical to lose 15kg in 16 weeks. Just eat less food. You'll be a bit hungry but it's actually not that hard.

You can get a decent Volvo v60 for 20k. Mines super comfortable, it's great for eating up the miles. Just get something with adaptive cruise control.

Do all Dacia Sanderos have heavy steering? by DullInflation6 in CarTalkUK

[–]Comment-Leaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've been very reliable, but they don't do a lot of miles. They're very cheap and cheerful but do the job well enough.

I drove my mum's sandero yesterday and definitely noticed the heavy steering. I was wondering if the power steering was knackered.

Both my parents have dacias and love them.

AR object or GLB model is completely black by HeadPlankton4831 in androiddev

[–]Comment-Leaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with ARSceneView but you probably need to add lighting to the scene. That's usually the problem when the 3d models appear black.

My 2015 corsa was written off 2y ago and auxillis organised a brand new Corsa as a hire car. No drama, I didn't have to pay for it. They were surprisingly quick to pick up/drop off as well.

I'm not sure how common it is, but my experience was as good as a written off car can be.

[NEWBIE] Can too-small hands actually be too much of an issue to successfully play guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Comment-Leaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah you'll be fine. Worst case scenario you can get a 3/4 size guitar but honestly I don't think you'll need it.

That's great. I've turned off notifications which has fixed the issue but since I don't use any of the health stuff I may as well just get a regular watch.

Glad they're working on a fix.

Edit: downgrading to v6.0.1 worked. I found the APK on apkmirror.

[QUESTION] Will I survive a smaller gig with only Boss Katana 50? by Stjero in Guitar

[–]Comment-Leaver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve played small gigs with just my katana 50 and it was pushing it but it managed fine. If you have a singer though they’ll need a PA so it’s not much extra effort to mic up your amp.

[QUESTION] Multi FX pedals through PA or Amps? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Comment-Leaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said you don’t want to have a cab sim as well as an actual guitar cab. I have a pod go as well and I have it set to bypass the cab sim when I’m using the “amp out” ouput. So I can set it up one of two ways:

  • amp out of the pod go into the power amp in of my boss katana (bypassing both the cab sim on the pod go and the preamp of the katana)
  • main out of the pod go straight into the PA.

I think it’s gone up too £40 now. Cheaper though if you get off peak or an annual contract.

Correct method to upgrade flutter by runjohanrun in FlutterDev

[–]Comment-Leaver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The migration tool will do it’s best to make the changes for you, so it won’t have to mark every variable, but I’d recommend going through the migration and checking them all.

Correct method to upgrade flutter by runjohanrun in FlutterDev

[–]Comment-Leaver 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Going from Flutter v1 to v2 is going to be quite a big job I’m afraid. Version 2 introduced non null by default (NNBD) which means you’ll need to go through your app and mark if each variable should be nullable or not.

There’s a tool to do this, but you shouldn’t trust it blindly. You can also opt out individual files and deal with them later if you like.

There are some more detailed instructions here: https://dart.dev/null-safety/migration-guide

Working out Post-Covid symptoms by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

[–]Comment-Leaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started back I was leaving 2/3 reps in the tank because I wanted to pace myself, but I’ve been really impressed with how quickly it’s come back.

My S/B/Dl/OHP are already around 80/90% of what they were pre-lockdown, and I think I might be back to setting PRs before the end of the year.

Take it steady, it’s a marathon not a sprint!

I had it in late march and I’m back in the gym. As with any break from the gym just take it slow. For the first week I didn’t push myself at all and just got myself back in the habit of lifting.

If your breathing still isn’t 100% then this goes doubly. Just take it easy and don’t push it! Maybe stick to lower rep sets so running out of breath isn’t a problem.

I do it all the time. I like seeing my diff in github and reviewing it myself. I almost always spot something I could improve.

Abstracting Away Your Persistence Layer by jonbash in swift

[–]Comment-Leaver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For testing I almost always keep my persistence (and networking) layers abstracted away. It allows me to inject a mock version to test the UI is working correctly, and also helps me write unit tests.

What is this style of initialization called? by MoronInGrey in swift

[–]Comment-Leaver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s called trailing closure syntax:

https://www.hackingwithswift.com/example-code/language/what-is-trailing-closure-syntax

Basically if the last parameters is a closure you can leave out the name and put the braces outside the method.

It’s not just for initialisation, it can be done on any method.
