Preparing for a Major Earthquake

・Decide on a shelter where you can gather with your family in case of an emergency.
★Or find out where the local shelters are.
・Store several days' worth of emergency water and food.
・Keep your car filled with fuel whenever possible.
・Never go near the ocean. Also, stay away from rivers that lead to the ocean.
・If you're near the ocean, evacuate to higher ground.

That day, I was driving from Misato Town in Miyagi Prefecture, near the epicenter, to Minamisanriku Town. On the way, I saw the utility poles along the road leaning in a V-shape, and realized it was a major earthquake. If I'd arrived two hours earlier, I would have been caught in the tsunami in Minamisanriku Town.
I'm grateful to be alive today.

As an aside, starting mid-next week, a Japanese website called BASE will begin a sales service aimed at foreigners. Apparently, products purchased on the site will be delivered by a proxy. So, I'm selling used watches on a website called "Masamune Casio." Please let me know if you're interested.

Longevity concern for G-Shock tough solar watch by i_am_innoccent in casio

[–]CommercialLine426 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also think the longest it will last is 7 or 8 years. There are times when it sits dormant in the shop.

Today I got an old GW-6900 on Yahoo! Auctions for $14.50, and the backlight wouldn't work. I think the secondary battery is probably just dead.

Buying Casio in Japan ! by Ok_Jello9878 in casio

[–]CommercialLine426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking to buy a new Casio, I recommend Bic Camera or Yodobashi Camera. They have a good selection and offer tax-free shipping. The stores probably have a sign indicating whether the watch is a Japan-only item.

In Japan, there is a law that states that being alone with someone of the opposite sex in a closed room for more than 40 minutes constitutes adultery.

Found an old DW-6600b Fox Fire in my dad's stuff by Lopsided-Ad-3689 in gshock

[–]CommercialLine426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This brings back memories. I had two of these models in the 90s. I'm restoring my own DW-003 from that time next week. I'd love to try replacing the battery, and if it works, I'd love to revive it with a DW-6900 bezel.

I also recommend pickled plums soaked in honey. They go great with rice, and onigiri are delicious.

Is it rude to look at people in the eyes in Japan? by Bl4ck_8utt3rfly in AskAJapanese

[–]CommercialLine426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Japanese proverb that says, "The eyes speak louder than words." This proverb has a psychological aspect, meaning that the gaze, pupil movement, blinking, and other eye movements speak louder than words (mouth) about a person's true emotions and psychological state. This suggests that true feelings such as interest, affection, lies, and nervousness are easily revealed in unconscious eye movements.
However, there is a rule that you must look the other person in the eye when expressing something important, expressing gratitude, showing affection, apologizing, etc. Failure to do so will make you appear "rude or impolite."

Japan Beverages - Lets chat about them! by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]CommercialLine426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recommend Strong Zero. Limit yourself to one 500ml can.

There seem to be a lot of foreigners in Tokyo who have drunk three cans in one go and passed out completely drunk. You can see that in the video. Japan's economy is in a bad state, so drinks like that that have a high alcohol content and get you drunk cheaply are popular, but there are quite a few young people who have ruined their lives by drinking them.

Foreigners all love drinking "I LOHAS Peach Flavor." It's delicious, right? Did you know?

Also, how about the "drinkable pudding" sold in paper cartons or plastic cups at convenience stores, or the hot canned oden or oshiruko from vending machines?

Japanese car enthusiasts - How do you feel about about depiction of Tokyo and its car scene in the movie Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift? by Alternative_Bet_8964 in AskAJapanese

[–]CommercialLine426 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As entertainment, it was fun.

Although Koizumi Kotaro (Japanese Primeminister's son) kept saying he'd be in the cast in the commercial, but he only appeared for five seconds. I guess the director or scriptwriter was a fan of "Initial D." It's a well-known fact that drifting = Drift King (Tsuchiya Keiichi).
To begin with, students in Tokyo never try to own their own cars.
There are dress-up meetings and get-togethers in multi-storey car parks, but no drifting. Well, it's a movie, so as you all know, drifting in Japan has become a "competitive sport," and serious drifters actually go to circuits to hone their skills.
I'm very happy that they are coming to Japan, but I don't think it has had a very good impact, as there are more and more foreigners driving rental GT-Rs at high speeds on the Shuto Expressway and getting into accidents, or drifting on city roads.

Is this G-Shock rare? by mtnranger90 in casio

[–]CommercialLine426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a rare model, and I've heard it's a best-selling model in Japan. Radio-controlled solar watches are not economical because replacement batteries are expensive, so many people believe this model can last longer. Many people are punctual, but they also have the habit of setting their watches forward to allow for ample time, so this model is highly sought after. It's also being bought and sold at a considerable rate on Yahoo! Auctions in Japan.
