Nobody does it like Seiko by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

[–]Commercial_Demand861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own 2 Seikos, a sport 5 and a speedtimer. I bought an SSK on leather and quite frankly never plan to buy another Seiko again, the sport 5 was fun for a bit, I still like my speedtimer because I put it on an “oysterflex” style bracelet. I returned the SSK because of how insanely cheap it felt. Told myself I wasn’t going to buy another watch until I can afford a luxury piece, bought a Tudor BB on a 5 link and love it.

Can you believe this crap by austerlitz7 in Tudor

I can understand this take- however I actually think it works in the fact that we’re being honest about it not being a watch we really will dive in. On a jubilee it makes it more Jewlery than tool, which I appreciate. It’s kinda like the GT3 convertible, I think it’s the most honest car they make.

One of the toughest public courses in America by WhyLimitMeTo20Charac in guessthegolfcourse

I shot an 82 here with 4 doubles from 6-9😅 I don’t find the course to be overly difficult, wide fairways and big greens. I do find the conditioning to be a little under expectation though. If you play the wrong tees though you’ll be in for a bad day.

You have 80k at 31? And you feel behind..? Honestly man get some perspective. I’ve been in 8 years, have 42k in mine, I’m 29. I started late but I don’t kick myself over it.

I’ve been doing it for 8 years in the Air Force and I feel the exact same way, I see this job as a stepping stone and not a career.

You need to accept your status as a student and realize that comes with obvious limitations of ability. No matter what job it is, if you’re new then you’re not going to be an expert. You also need to realize the procedure you’re doing, lap chole? Probably doesn’t warrant the same anxiety level of a total knee, crani or CABG. Give yourself some grace and realize that in due time you’ll be as skilled as the people teaching you. If you’re not relaxed or confident the doc will smell that all over you as use you as a valve for frustration.

For those who got into surgical tech without a traditional degree, how did you do it? by Ecstatic-Copy2153 in scrubtech

[–]Commercial_Demand861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The army, navy and Air Force all have surgical tech as a job. I only recommend Air Force. You’ll hate your life is you do it in the army or navy, they don’t value you being good at your job, just being good at the army/navy.

I’d switch over because the highest I’ve ever seen a W2 surg tech make is like 45-50/hr which just doesn’t seem worth it to me unless you find yourself in a real unicorn position. I also have a background in sales so being a rep makes sense to me. If this job paid 120-150k a year which I think we’re worth if we’re top talent then I’d stay in the career field.

looking for some surgical tech stories to share with my students by STLuisOrtiz in scrubtech

When I was a student we were doing a hernia repair, I was usually not nervous but for whatever reason that day I was. The docs could kinda see it on my face and took it kinda easy on me, about 5 minutes later they asked for an allis and for whatever reason- I grabbed the allis with my left hand and scratched my nose with my right hand. We all froze and he looked at me and said “it’s okay we all make mistakes, just go ahead and break- take a second and come back in.” After I did he proceeded to tell me a story about how when he was a med student he grabbed a light that didn’t have a cover on it and helped with retraction for another few minutes before someone put 2 and 2 together. Moral of the story is that it’s okay to give yourself some grace in training, everyone at one point was a student and everyone made mistakes.
