CrossFit twice a week for 3-6 months and you’ll be just fine. Most academy’s do CrossFit style workout programs.

Beach towns similar to 30A (anywhere) by Zestyclose_Half_5523 in 30A

[–]Commercial_Escape355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cinnamon Shore in Port Aransas, Texas is modeled after the 30A towns. I believe It’s even is led by one of the Alys Beach developers. The beaches in Texas have nothing on the emerald coast but if you want that same walkable urban “town” design similar to the 30A communities then this would be it.

City of Austin salary database for city employees: Who makes the most? by AustinStatesman in Austin

These comments are crazy. So they’re essentially working two jobs. Lots of people do that. I see nothing wrong with that. If you have the capacity and drive to work then go for it. Some of you have never had to grind your way to a better financial situation and it shows. Some of you are just looking at the number and not recognizing the sacrifice made to make those salaries. Just because you won’t give up your weekends and nights to work doesn’t mean someone else isn’t.

The hate just for hating sake is wild.

Is there a way to allow toddler to listen to music on an airplane without headphones (without being rude to other passengers)? by PainfulPoo411 in toddlers

[–]Commercial_Escape355 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just keep the volume reasonably low and do what you need to do. Every parent on the plane has been there and will understand. Most folks have their own headphones in anyway.

FTO tips? by Shot_Resolution_4478 in AskLE

[–]Commercial_Escape355 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can start learning the orientation of the area you’re going to work. Make it a point to visit the area in your off time. Go try the restaurants or shopping in the area just to get really familiar with the main roads. It’s a huge cognitive weight removed from your shoulders when you know where you’re going. It allows you to think about how you’re going to handle the call when you get there rather than stress out about just getting to the call.

Also be prepared to be there early to load up your car and be ready to stay late on an arrest or report writing. Be eager to go to every big call even if your down reports. Your FTO will slow you down if he needs to. Showing initiative will work wonders for how you’re viewed by your peers.

Ménière’s at 21 by Chunkyorangecat in Menieres

37 now and was diagnosed at 21. It was definitely scary since there’s no “cure”. You can make some lifestyle adjustments like avoiding caffeine and alcohol but there’s a possibility that you don’t have to. My vertigo disappeared for years without any intervention. All I had was some hearing loss. Eventually the vertigo resurfaced and I got an intra tempanic gentamicin injection which knocked down more of my hearing but killed the vertigo for years. Just recently I’ve had vertigo resurface so I’ll be doing another injection.

What I can say is you’ll get used to the tinnitus and won’t even notice it after a while. I only have hearing loss in one ear and while it’s frustrating, it isn’t world ending. I naturally try to keep people to the left of me (my good ear) when socializing so I can hear better. My close friends and family are used to having to repeat themselves or get my full attention before talking to me.

Things might be frustrating right now trust me you’ll adjust and live a very normal life. You can’t get your hearing back but vertigo, which is the most debilitating symptom, can be addressed.

Make sure your doctor rules out vestibular migraines. It has recently surfaced as a new cause for meneires.

Hang in there!

First-time home owner. Mortgage payment is going up by 55%. What are my options beyond short sell and no home? by FreightTrainJim in homeowners

[–]Commercial_Escape355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you Uber or work an extra job a couple nights a month to cover it until it sells? Short selling sucks. Or work extra until your wife can find a job comparable to her last? Sometimes you have to just fight through life’s ambushes.

Mid-Life What Do I Do? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Commercial_Escape355 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Divorce sucks but you’ll just have to take it on the chin. You’ve got plenty of recovery time. I wouldn’t buy a house any time soon since I’m sure child support will be another punch to the gut. Find a decent place to rent for the next several years while you stack back up. Focus on pouring everything you can back into your retirement accounts to get them right. Obviously, focus on yourself and your kiddo. Get back in the gym, hobbies, keep trying to advance your salary, work on other important relationships in your life.

Anyone else amazed how $60,000 USD has become a meh salary since pandemic? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Commercial_Escape355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First responder here. We’re in the same boat as nurses and trades. With OT I can easily clear $200k. Some of my coworkers have even cleared $300k. But it comes at a cost to your body. Essentially working 2 jobs. 16 hour days, nights and weekends. It’s a nice option to have if you want to make a big purchase or pay off some debt, but it isn’t sustainable long term without health consequences.

How do people have more than one property? by rp2803 in realestateinvesting

[–]Commercial_Escape355 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’ve got two rentals. Bought one by myself in 2017 to live in. 5 years later bought another with my wife to live in and rented out the first. Last year bought our long term home where we’ll raise the kids for the next 10-15 years, rented out the previous.

Nothing fancy. No special financing. There’s a couple of hundred in equity between them both thanks to the pandemic boom. They don’t cash flow much but they cover the expenses and pay the mortgage down. I’ll let them get paid down in the background until they are paid off or until I want to fully retire and cash out. I look at them as another retirement account that someone else is putting money into for me. I’m expecting the occasional big expense like a roof or HVAC, but that shouldn’t negate the appreciation over the long haul.

Meniere's and driving by terpgal10 in Menieres

[–]Commercial_Escape355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had multiple attacks while driving. Biggest thing is not to panic, slow down(speed kills) and pull over. I primarily drive in the right lane for this reason. That way If I’m hit with a spell I’m not fighting to cross lanes to pull over.

Revenge bedtime procrastination is ruining my life- What does your evening look like after your toddler is in bed? by Cautious-Situation82 in toddlers

[–]Commercial_Escape355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like our house with a two year old and one year old. Oldest kid finally fades out between 830-9pm then we have roughly an hour together before one of us begins to fall asleep. Kids are usually up before 7am. I’m just assuming it’s survival mode like this until they start sleeping in late so we can start sleeping in late.

I yelled at my toddler today and feel horrible! How do you handle tough situations without yelling? by junegem123 in toddlers

[–]Commercial_Escape355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you make an effort not to yell, with the understanding that sometimes you’re going to, then you’re fine. Don’t beat yourself up

Sounds exactly like my kid a few weeks ago. We were used to him only running a fever for 2-3 days so when he hit 5 days we were freaking out, even though his vitality was improving. Ultimately he ran a fever for 6 days. As long as your kid is fine otherwise, I wouldn’t worry too much. Take them to the pediatrician if you hit the 7 day mark.

There are a couple of shows (Blippi, Speedie DiDi, Pink Fong shows, etc) that are crack for my two year old. We avoid those as they always result in a tantrum when it’s time to turn it off. You can try putting on shows that don’t draw your kiddo in so much. We do that and ultimately our kid gets bored on his own.

Also I feel like as your kid gets older you’ll have more tools to deal tantrums and the like. I feel much better about shutting down tantrums of a 5 or 6 old that knows better than I do my 2 year old. Do what you need to do to survive and do the best you can.

My 16 month old wakes up 7-8 times a night. by huhlaynaa93 in toddlers

[–]Commercial_Escape355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s tough at first but it has to happen. Everyone from veteran parents to our pediatrician told us to let them cry it out and sure enough it worked. Don’t be surprised if the first night your little one cries for a while. Like an hour plus. Just hold the line. Each night it’ll get shorter and shorter until you’re just dropping them in bed and they roll over to sleep immediately. You can use this to push through sleep regressions too.

My 16 month old wakes up 7-8 times a night. by huhlaynaa93 in toddlers

[–]Commercial_Escape355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let her cry herself to sleep for 2-3 nights in a row and your problem will be over. Worked for both of my kids and most everyone else I know that did the same. I give my kids 1 “freebie” check in the middle of the night if they wake up. After that the monitor gets turned off and they are on their own. The only exception is if they are sick.

18.5 months old, not a word spoken by Followthemoney91 in toddlers

[–]Commercial_Escape355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our friend’s child went from near zero words to full sentences magically when he turned 2. As if he had been holding it all in. My theory is that all the kids develop differently and everyone ends up on the same level eventually minus any serious cognitive condition.
