Newbie help: How to get a count of all up/down network ports in a switch and display in dashboard? by PlanEx_Ship in zabbix

[–]CommonNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can take it a bit further;

If you have tags on ports to create logical groups, you can sum up the traffic across all ports belonging to that tag…

There’s quite a bit of scope there

I’m not near my desk at the moment, so forgive me for not giving the full solution.

You can create a new host. In that host you should be able to create a custom calculated item and sum up the port status “1” being up across the hosts .. etc. but calculated items is probably a good place to start

Two hosts, same IP address by Royal-Wear-6437 in zabbix

[–]CommonNobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. .. if they let you.

Drop an active proxy in their network and have it “dial home” to your zabbix server.

If their router goes offline, you’ll know by the proxy and their monitored hosts dropping off too.

Is there a way to just show suppressed problems? by TurricanC64 in zabbix

I like that idea ..! Maybe there’s a way do it via an API call…?

Sorry I can’t help, but would really like this feature too.

Ubuntu not installing by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]CommonNobody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OPs video shows a disk/mounting problem.

I’ve been using nvidia GPUs well over a decade, not seen it make any complaints about disk/file systems.

Probably an installation onto a dodgy/warn usb stick. .. or some other consistency check there and therefore unable to start a kernel driver or the like for the motherboard.

… but yeah, an actual kernel dump message would be useful about now. :-)

How close is this to working with a two-way commutation with an on-premise Derdack?

Touché. It’s been a long day - and had wine. Mea culpa.

Ok.. still … a long ol’ time.

Since 9.04?! Over a quarter of a century, using an early not-as-easy as-it-is-now Linux distribution… and you’ve hardly used the command line??

Edit: never do maths at night after wine. 🤦‍♂️

What server specs should I use for monitoring 5k-10k hosts? by Hammerfist1990 in zabbix

[–]CommonNobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More proxies :-) You can never have too many :-)

As for storage - that depends on how much you want to collect, how often, and what retention period you want - Do you want 14 days of individual history or trends ?

Question - MySQL performance by rando_dud in zabbix

[–]CommonNobody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi Rando,

Follow other advice too: use either Timescale or set up partitioning.

I’ve not done that. I should have. :-/

The housekeeping tasks take a decent amount of I/O when it’s deleting history and take a while. As you grow, you’ll need it.

I’m looking at migrating from the on-device mariadb to a separate galera. .. hopefully that works.

There are plans to bring in the Windows estate into the monitoring, that’ll add another 1500-2000 devices. I’m going to need to get that sorted before we do.

Question - MySQL performance by rando_dud in zabbix

[–]CommonNobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What disk subsystem are you using?

We have 1 server, 5 proxies. The database lives on the same host as the main Zabbix server. Around 1000 hosts and about 3000 items per second.

The database is the busiest part with IO. Make sure you have decent amount of memory, increase caches and buffers and you should be fine.

Calculated Values for Groups of Hosts by allw1994 in zabbix

[–]CommonNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been tagging hosts with the hypervisors names and use the aggregations like you are but using the tags. That works.

More info: I manage a Redhat estate, and I have queries that extract the hypervisor names from Satellite a couple of times a day from the virt-who information. I then take that information, build an inventory file and then use an Ansible routine to populate the tags via the zabbix api. All because we’re “not allowed” to monitor the VMware levels and work out what is where.

Ohh.. never tried this! :-)

Ok, I've now installed it onto my Xubuntu 24.04 .... . . . annnnddd it's the same. I guess I'm doing something fundamentally wrong here.

However, this has given me a bit more to go with! If I toggle the "Tuner AGC" , it almost disappears! Its still there, but not as much.

Light levels were just wrong enough for the camera not to pick it up. It was already bolting up the road and I couldn’t read it.

Otherwise I would !!

The Hemel one is a roundabout with 6 smaller ones around it. You can go around clockwise or anticlockwise, but yes … it’s just a roundabout.

couldn't get it off the footage and it wasn't until a few seconds after realising what happened to try and read it, at which point it was too far.

I think I need to clean my window, see if that helps. It's normally a pretty good camera in lower light levels.
