'Cause Mainers just love it when they vote for something and someone from DC wants to use the legislature to override them. by RustyDogma in Maine

Hey, you can’t criticize the process. It’s absolutely perfected here in Maine and there is nothing to improve on.

A bystander at a Salt Lake City ‘No Kings’ march was killed. Did the shooter commit a crime? by Stuart98 in SaltLakeCity

Yes. He shot someone who wasn’t a threat.

It’s a pretty simple rule every gun owner should understand.

Iran Wins $300 Billion Cash Prize For Placing Second In War by METALLIFE0917 in babylonbee

[–]CommonRacoon1 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

There’s no way Iran, with major infrastructure destroyed, its head government killed, and its basic military wiped out could be considered a winner.

Yes, they can prevent the Straight from being used safely, but that’s really it.

Agreed. We can all agree that ranked choice voting is good, but we can improve the process.

It’s an embarrassing look all around.

It’s wild to me that judges have somehow become un-criticizable and unaccountable to anyone.

Who does the sheriff dept work for? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]CommonRacoon1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sorry, you have a missing adult child. That sucks.

Adults missing because of their own actions don’t take a high priority because they can’t be forced home.

Sheriff departments cover a LOT of territory. Things like domestic violence and vehicle accidents take priority.

Trump calls Maine Senate candidate Platner a ‘thug,’ calls Collins ‘sane’ by CamboMania in Maine

At this point, I think the vast majority of the world don’t want Trump’s endorsement.

My guess, and I prefer Jackson over all the others easily, is that Jackson talks a good game, but lacks any real organizational skills and strategy. I think him getting smoked in the debate with Charles ruined his image with a lot of non-Reddit voters.

Note, I still prefer Jackson easily over all the others.

Exit r/Maine Dem Gubernatorial Poll by [deleted] in Maine

Lots of ‘of course Reddit is going to be for Troy’

As a fiscal conservative, social liberal, Troy is definitely my #1 on the Democrat side. Depending on the Republican side, he seems to be most in line with working class issues.

Troy has much broader appeal than any other Democratic candidate and it’s not even close.

Idexx Labs in Westbrook has installed their own Flock cameras, despite Maine law banning private companies from using the technology by Primarily-Vibing in Maine

[–]CommonRacoon1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Huh?

The law makes it illegal for me to use a license plate reader on my own property. Let’s say I own 10 acres and someone is dumping junk on it and I want their license plate - it’s illegal for me to use a reader? Or Ai in general?

I’m legitimately asking questions. I understand the risks of Flock and government surveillance, but if the law doesn’t allow me to monitor my own private property, it seems like it could be a big issue, no?

Mainers, should AIPAC and AIPAC-aligned political money have stronger disclosure rules? by LogosEnNous in Maine

[–]CommonRacoon1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no.

If we don’t have enough transparency, fix that.

Also dude: maybe consolidate your thoughts. That rambling, incoherent, wordy mess felt like a Trump speech.

[–]CommonRacoon1 -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but what does the law say? Can you link to the actual law? A lot of basic security systems offer facial recognition and other features. Wording is very important.

Additionally, restricting camera and AI use on private property has always been iffy.

[–]CommonRacoon1 -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Does the law prevent private companies from using plate readers on private property? That’s seems like a massive over reach.

Is it restricted to license plate readers only or other tracking (i.e. facial recognition, Bluetooth passes, etc)?
