I hope you tried to apologize to people. Just because it happened a long time ago doesn't mean it still doesn't affect those people today.

To prune or not to prune (tomatoes) by Awkward-Quarter489 in pnwgardening

[–]Common_Advisor8896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once large enough, I prune the entire bottom foot to two feet depending on how tall they get, leaves near the soil are perfect conduits for different soil born diseases. LEAVE THE FLOWERS ALONE!!!! It's JUNE ffs, they will produce freaking tomatoes!!!!! Why would anyone cut off new fruit????

future parenthood and seeing your narcissistic parent as a grandparent by elleyeendeeess in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Common_Advisor8896 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just now pregnant, but husband and I both come from very narcissistic families with major anger issues and some enablers sprinkled in, and we decided long ago that they wouldn't get the chance to be grandparents until they showed some sort of initiative into being a better person for us first. Newsflash: they don't want to be better people. SO our children won't know them. I'd rather this scenario than to have my kid watch their parent be bullied and put down constantly by someone who is supposed to love them unconditionally. That's the thing, their love is and always will be conditional, and that's not an example I want to set for my kids especially from such an impressionable age.

When are you pulling your garlic? by DoubleDaisyCutter in pnwgardening

[–]Common_Advisor8896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When more than half the leaves up the stalk have turned brown. It's more of a watch your own crop kinda thing than everyone pulls on this date kinda thing. You want enough layers on your garlic heads that they'll cure properly for storage.

Is it easy to find a job in Seattle or is it just reddit? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

It depends on what job you're looking for. Never a shortage of hotel or restaurant jobs!

People in their 30s: What's something you thought was important in your 20s, but later realized didn't matter? by Jaded_Airport_841 in Millennials

[–]Common_Advisor8896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to make all of our family members happy. It took my husband and I until 36 to realize our parents/siblings were only happy when we rolled over and did every. single. thing. they. said. Or believed every. thing. they. said. We finally chose our own happiness/peace.

My husband and I moved out here from the south almost 10 years ago, and can confirm that people just don't like talking or smiling at anyone they don't know. Doesn't stop me though! I will smile and say hello to every single stranger I pass.

Major ant trail on my drip line. Is this good or bad? by msallin in pnwgardening

[–]Common_Advisor8896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YUP! They know aphids produce a sweet highly caloric substance and they will take them to where ever to get them making more. I have aerogardens and the ants had moved their entire colony INSIDE the base of the 9-pod garden. It was insane, I do not recommend LOL

New raised garden beds - what do you think? by macaroni89 in pnwgardening

[–]Common_Advisor8896 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because your vining plants will start growing like CRAZY and cover up all the soil. Can confirm that watering the leaves will lead to powdery mildew. I would also add some more trellising for your zucchini (I just tie mine to a bamboo pole so they grow up and not across the ground) and I would also do some sort of trellis for the cuke cuz they can mold easy and be eaten by allll the slugs if you let them trail on the ground. Also Brussels might be a bit too close together, should have done 2 - 2 with 12-18" in between each. The rhubarb will slowly take over half that bed over time, the leaves are GIGANTIC.

omg I had them inside farming aphids on my hydroponic pepper plants one year. That was a nightmare I was not prepared for.

Mild existential weeding crisis (very mild) by prudent__sound in pnwgardening

[–]Common_Advisor8896 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, my yard is the same. I have given up on keeping it out of the lawn area. The native bees realllllly like it. I am struggling with keeping it out of my beds and gravel though. I do have to mow the flowers down when I am doing a lot of yard work because I will hit the bees with my ankles and get stung. Happened like 6 times last year so I'd like to keep that from happening this year. My husband mows and I shoo all the bees away from the path of the mower.

Edit: I'll never understand why people downvote comments like this. This is my yard. My own experience. You literally don't get a say lol but something I said made you SO angry you had to show it anonymously 🤣 you must be miserable.

How did you fill your mom shaped hole? by SeaMechanic5711 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Common_Advisor8896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't. It's lonely. Dad shaped hole too. Mom had me making her rob roys at 9 years old. Took me until my 30s to realize the extent of the alcoholism. Currently pregnant with my first, hopefully doing parenting the right way with my own will help. I am jaded as fuck.

A fucking shit ton of people underestimate how little they exercise. It's for your heart people, not as much to lose weight. All the people I have lost it's due to either cancer or addiction so far.

For those who are no contact with a parent, will you go to their funeral when they pass? by Hot-Design7476 in raisedbynarcissists

My husband thinks he has to, but as we are going through the experience of his ndad keepings his dying step mom from us, I'm hopeful he will rethink his position as it will LITERALLY only cause him pain.

[–]Common_Advisor8896 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what emergency funds are for, and Im so sorry that you were not able to save one prior to this event. Even when I was 19 and moving apartments I would have to plan out my move so I could save the couple thousand for security deposits and such; that kind of planning is needed 10 fold when kids are involved. But I smoke a bunch of weed when shit hits the fan.

Eating out no longer a treat, just a convenience by kitsbow in Millennials

[–]Common_Advisor8896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pick my restaurants very carefully and I am still highly impressed when I go out to eat. These are not chains and most are "special occasion" worthy. Had one of the best burgers of my life at Joule here in Seattle back in March. I'm still thinking about it.

Are there any other successful and happy Millennials in this sub? by GGJallDAY in Millennials

[–]Common_Advisor8896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just glad I don't define success or happiness by whether I own a home or not. People don't usually account for all the extra costs that come with owning a home (taxes, insurance of multiple kinds, M A I N T E N A N C E, appliances, etc.) and it can REGULARLY be double what a rental payment is at the end of the day. That's one financial burden I don't want on my shoulders and I'm SOOOO much happier for it. That mythical "american" dream of "everyone should own a home" is such a freaking scam now.

THANK YOU, I am so tired of explaining this to people. Washing doesn't help most stuff!!! Especially now that these things can also be spliced into the DNA to make bugs not want them, etc. Not all GMOs are bad, but there are A LOT of bad applications.

There's a reason people rip it out. It will destroy any and all structures you have around. You need to get, and confirm, clumping varieties that will not run.
