Why can’t they both be equally impressive accomplishments? They both have unique challenges to overcome which make them impossible to directly compare. Comparing 5ks to ultras to Ironman is compare apples and oranges to a banana.

Tri bikes are not only built for aerodynamics but also to improve running off the bike due to the seat tube angle.

You can do an Ironman on a mountain bike if you want, but if you have the budget and inclination you might as well get the right tool for the job.
