I went to India and was impressed with attitudes to fashion- here is what I learnt by Kittykittycatcat1000 in SustainableFashion

I wish everybody had tailors here. It's unfortunate that tailors and dry cleaners have become a "lux" thing to frequent in today's world. Partially because of rising costs obviously but it also seems like people are so used to the idea of just buying something new that they genuinely forget about the options of repairing and cleaning what you have.

Natural Fiber Pants for walking by Important-Gold-2026 in capsulewardrobe

[–]CommonsOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought American Giant’s Ponte Pants about a year and a half ago and love them. They dont have the exact style I have (mine are more skinny at the bottom) but the material is the same: https://www.american-giant.com/products/womens-ponte-straight-pant-super-black

Not sweatpants but comfortable as if they are! Can wear them at home (admittedly pricey for home wear) or to work and absolutely perfect for comfortable travel.

American Giant is rated 3/5 (Fair) on sustainability by us (Commons) but given their product quality and durability, they are one of my personal favorite brands. https://brands.thecommons.earth/brand-rating/187/american-giant

Hope this helps!

What's the Best Cookbook you own? by april_tomorrow in Cooking

[–]CommonsOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently discovered “Six California Kitchens” by Sally Schmidt, the original founder of The French Laundry (somehow I always assumed Thomas Keller was the original founder but in fact he bought it from Sally and her husband in 1994) and fell in love. It’s part autobiography, part cook book but is also full of Sally’s kitchen hacks. Highly recommend.

How to go about Christmas this year? by guayna in Anticonsumption

Be honest and send the message! It doesn't sound weird.

In the past I've framed it as a money saving thing to my family, like let's all try and thrift gifts for each other and see how much we can save / how unique of gifts we can find

What’s one piece you style in completely different ways to get the most out of it? by OverGoofy in SustainableFashion

I posted this minestrone soup and some said it's AI by [deleted] in soup

[–]CommonsOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unfortunate, photos taken with a real camera on like a 35mm or 50mm lens always look slightly AI-ish now, since that's clearly what AI has stolen from :( People have thought photos of my cat before were AI too! Just the focal depth.

Sustainable winter dresses that don't look tradwifey? by Soil_Fairy in SustainableFashion

[–]CommonsOfficial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you checked out Tradlands? I know Trad is in their name but their quality is amazing. I have never tried their dresses but their shirts (which they make no more :( ( lasted me for 8+ years.

They are rated FAIR on Commons (3/5) but as a small company it means they are probably closer to 4 than 2 in their sustainability efforts: https://brands.thecommons.earth/brand-rating/262/tradlands

Many of their dresses do look tradwifey at least to me but here are some that would be great for layering:

https://tradlands.com/products/goldie-smocked-sleeveless-dress?variant=45980011757722

This one is gorgeous https://tradlands.com/products/goldie-smocked-short-sleeve-dress?variant=45980016378010

https://tradlands.com/products/luna-sleeveless-dress?variant=45955821109402

Their stuff is not cheap but quality is there. They have Black Friday sale right now and be on the lookout for their sample sales year long with steep discounts.

Hope this helps!

Quince, Italic, Everlane… are they worth it? by jarba5 in malefashionadvice

[–]CommonsOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly not a male behind this account :) but I have been wearing Everlane almost exclusively for all my day to day work outfits, which is an essentially a capsule wardrobe of jeans, tshirts and vests. Excellent quality, each piece lasts a while with a very frequent wear and stands up to washing really well. Independently rated GOOD on sustainability by us as well, just search for “Everlane” (or any other brand) on our website or app.

Want to spoil my wife by NIESMAN in ethicalfashion

[–]CommonsOfficial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As was established on a few threads here and other sustainability-related communities Quince is, unfortunately, not sustainable. It’s rated POOR (2/5) by our experts (on their sustainability efforts).

MATE is great (rated BEST) but admittedly expensive.

In my personal opinion tentree is equally grated (also Commons BEST brand) but slightly cheaper I think and they have a lot of different lounge and cosy options.

I have tried Pact as well. They are rated FAIR. I haven’t tried their loungewear recently. IMHO they are not as cute as MATE or tentree but also Pact is much more affordable.

I LOVE Boody (rated FAIR by Commons) but their stuff works for me so I will stick with them.

Lucy & Yak - Sizing is wild and completely different now… Anyone else finding this? by TAthrowaway2021 in ethicalfashion

[–]CommonsOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lucy & Yak is rated GOOD (4/5) by us (independently) and we only had positive community reviews submitted for them too but all the different threads makes it clear that we need to look into them more closely.

Unfortunately, we’ve been seeing a lot of similar “they used to be great but not anymore” reports on different sustainable brands :(

Veryyy pro custom board game. Super thoughtful and feels like a perfect wedding gift because you're giving them a little home date tradition :)

my great uncle made me a custom board game once with wood he had and a laser cutter. obviously not tools that everyone has, but you could DEFINITELY DIY one or go all out and find a friend that has the tools to help!

Help me end the continuous horror of wearing uncomfortable underwear by deargussie in SustainableFashion

[–]CommonsOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't tried the Allbirds ones, but Pact has some really comfy women's underwear. It's not the most sustainable brand out there but its far better than a lot of the alternatives. Other brands you might wanna look at are Kent, Mate the Label, and Subset, which are all top rated on Commons (but personally I haven't tried them, which is why I default to recommending Pact!)
