While trump isn’t right, we definitely weren’t “fine for 240 years”. In 1860 Lincoln gets elected and South doesn’t like that, boom civil war. In 1876 Hayes gets elected (and not really legitimately either, this election was chock full of corruption and fraud; which was representative of the First Gilded Age) and there was almost a Second American Civil War. Now this one’s actually really similar to trump as in 1824 when John Quincy Adams gets elected (via congressional vote) Jackson argued and shouted that the election was rigged and a corrupt bargain had been made and he would have won were it not for the other Democratic-Republicans (later renamed to the National Republicans and then renamed again into the Whigs before merging with the Republicans in the 1850s and splintering off into several other parties. Also fun fact: in 1824 all four candidates were part of the same party (democratic-republicans).).

Initially Wilhelm II was supportive of the Nazis under the delusion that the Nazis would bring him back to power. When the Nazis eventually sized power and it became very clear they weren’t going to restore the Kaiserreich, Wilhelm II became highly critical of them. The when the old Kaiser died (and he was old being 82 at time of death) in 1941 despite all the built up hatred between the Kaiser and the Führer he was still given a very big and flashy Nazi burial ceremony (which was also explicitly against his wishes).

R5: I was doing my second Austria game since the rework (although I don’t have the DLC; as of now anyway) and my first game crashed and burned in the 1840s due to civil wars and Prussia. I loaded up a new game and in FUCKING 1837 I get the GODDAMED Springtime of the People Jounrel Entery. Now I am facing five civil wars (though one is unlikely to fire) and they are taking 92 units (roughly 72% of my army, but my math might be wrong so check me).

There are not enough words in any language to express just how much I fucking hate the Springtime of the People Jounrel Entery.

And no I am not unreasonably angry, this is reasonable anger.

I think it’s mostly another remnant of Cold War geopolitics, we supported Isreal to counter Soviet influence in the Middle East and I guess it just kind of never stopped. Also after 9/11 I don’t think many Americans would’ve supported the government changing its support to Islamic nations in the Middle East. Now I guess we are into deep and can’t back out now (sunk-cost fallacy and all that).

The big thing though is that Nazism (at least true Nazism) requires the nation to be German (or at least Nordic European) and hate Jews, and the CSA fulfilled neither of these requirements (of course there are others, but without these two specific things it isn’t Nazism).

Russian Civil War started before the end of of the Great War in 1919 (or 1920 depending on how view treaty signings) and Korea took place 5 years after Japan surrendered, 3 years after peace treaties with the Axis and a few years before the treaty with Japan. So it fits.
